Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof has called for greater collaboration between industry players, water operators, and government agencies to drive innovative and climate-resilient water solutions.

Speaking at the Joint Announcement of the Reclaimed Water Supply Projects for Malaysia, Fadillah, who is also the Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) Minister, said the partnership involving Amazon Web Services (AWS), Air Selangor, Indah Water Konsortium (IWK), and the Selangor government highlights how public-private cooperation can advance sustainable water management.

Fadillah added that Malaysia is the second country in the AWS Region to adopt reclaimed water and assured that the AIR 2040 framework will prevent any future water crisis.

00:00Today marks an important milestone in Malaysia's journey towards sustainable water management
00:21and digital transformation.
00:24The utilization of reclaimed water for cloud operations sets a powerful global example
00:31of how technology companies can contribute meaningfully to climate goals while reinforcing
00:37Malaysia's position as a regional digital hub.
00:42This collaboration is RMK13 in action, a model of how public-private partnerships deliver
00:51sustainable, forward-looking solutions that directly support Malaysia's development agenda.
00:58The successful weakness today reflects years of joint planning, regulatory alignment and
01:04cooperation among multiple stakeholders.
01:07It sets a new benchmark for the management of water resources in an innovation-driven economy,
01:14a model that is cohesive, proactive and anchored in long-term sustainability.
01:22This collaboration is also a continuation of Petra's commitment under the Water Sector
01:27Transformation 2040, or in short, IA2040, which aims to promote efficiency, resilience and sustainability
01:36in national water management.
01:38Sustainable water is an important pillar of this transformation, a renewable asset that
01:44strengthens security, supports sustainable industrial growth and reduces pressure on portable water
01:53supplies.
01:55The initiative announced today fits seamlessly into this vision.
01:59It showcases Malaysia's ambition under the Madani economy to ensure that the digital growth
02:05is built on sustainable foundations.
02:09I am informed that within the AWS region that covers Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia, Malaysia
02:17is a second country where AWS utilises reclaimed water, a milestone that underscores our leadership
02:24in sustainable digital infrastructure.
02:28So Petra remains committed to enabling the ecosystem by streamlining permit processes, providing
02:36clear guidelines, strengthening federal-state coordination and exploring policy enables to support
02:44wider adoption of reclaimed water.
02:48So Petra is also refining the legal framework to establish a comprehensive reclaimed water policy,
02:54and undertaking a study to formulate a roadmap that guides industries in shifting towards
03:01reclaimed water as part of their operational needs.
03:05So in parallel, Petra is advancing pathways for industry players, including data centers and
03:11strategic sectors, to procure green electricity through mechanisms such as a corporate renewable energy
03:19supply scheme or CRES, the green electricity tariff GATT and rooftop solar under the self-consumption scheme.
03:30These integrated measures ensure that Malaysia's energy and water transitions move forward in a coordinated,
03:38efficient and sustainable manner.
03:42As Malaysia's position, it serves as a regional data hub.
03:45Initiatives like this ensure that innovation and sustainability progress hand-in-hand.
03:52It safeguards our water ecosystem, strengthens economic resilience and prepares Malaysia for a future defined by
04:01clean technology, climate responsibility and global competitiveness.
04:07So today's announcement is a testament to what becomes possible when public policy, private sector innovation
04:15and environmental responsibility are aligned.
04:18It demonstrates how global technology leaders like AWS can create meaningful impact not only by
04:26empowering digital transformation but by protecting natural resources for future generations.
04:33Maybe you could share with us how bad is the water crisis dekat dalam negara dalam 5-10 tahun?
04:37How bad is the water crisis?
04:38Is there any water crisis?
04:40Ada kajian yang juga mengatakan yang 5-10 tahun itu akan ada water crisis?
04:44No, that's why we have launched I-2040 and of course that will be more at a national level.
04:52That will be the direction.
04:53Then we have to work together with the state because water comes under the state.
04:58So with that we have to do all the overall planning.
05:03If everybody comply with all the guidelines under I-2040, I believe we should be able to make sure
05:11that we are sustainable as far as water is concerned.
05:14So one, to make sure that water for consumption, the other one will be water for the industry players.
05:21So that's why we are introducing recycled water, reuse water, we are also looking into what we call reclaimed water.
05:29So this is to make sure that the water is always sustainable for the usage of human and also for the domestic and also for the industry players.
05:39So in other words, this is the hope that the money pays Kind of schaut,만-
