00:00Ron Millett scheduled for August the 5th right here on Showtime.
00:04Well our Jim Gray has been extremely busy tonight here with the microphone and earlier tonight
00:09Jim spoke with promoter Frank Warren about speculation that Mike Tyson assaulted
00:15Frank Warren earlier this week.
00:19With Frank Warren the promoter of tonight's fight Frank has been in the news the last couple of days.
00:24Frank let's start it off this way. What's your relationship with Mike Tyson?
00:29I'm promoting his fight tonight.
00:31Did he assault you?
00:33I've made a statement that I'm suing the newspaper concerning the story that was broken by them
00:38which is a Scottish daily record.
00:40They broke the story and I'm suing them as a result of that story.
00:43We have different libels in here, libel laws than you do in the States so I'm suing them over that article.
00:48But that doesn't answer the question really. Did he assault you? A simple yes or no?
00:52I'm answering the question by telling you I'm suing the newspaper that made the allegations that certain things happened that didn't happen.
00:58Did he put his hands on you or did a member of his party put their hands on you?
01:03I'm suing a newspaper over the allegations that were made in that newspaper.
01:07That doesn't necessarily mean there may be some nuance in that story that you're claiming is inaccurate.
01:12I'm going to the heart of the story and asking you whether or not you deny if in fact Mike Tyson at all harmed you in any way shape or form or a member of his party.
01:21I've just given you my answer.
01:24That's not yes or no, Frank.
01:25I'm not answering yes or no. The facts of the matter are that I'm suing the newspaper that prints the story.
01:30Okay, you've been absent all week from the major press conference and other goings on regarding this fight. Why?
01:36We had a lot of litigation, as you know, going on in London over jury issues from Mike's last visit and I was about to spend quite a bit of time with lawyers there because we was in court.
01:44We had a hearing, I think it was on Thursday and then there was a hearing with another people on Friday.
01:50So I've been stuck with that and working on that.
01:52Are you responsible for the jury or is Mike?
01:55I am not responsible for the jury.
01:58Well, there you have it, Frank Warren defending himself.
02:08The argument was over a bill for some jewelry, which Mike Tyson bought on his first visit back in London in January before the fight with Julius Francis.
02:20Coming up next, what the fans came to see, it's the main event from Glasgow, Scotland featuring Mike Tyson.
02:26They can't seem to get enough of this guy here.
02:28Every time you blink, Tyson is in the headlines on the news discussed on the local talk shows.
02:33Lou Savarese is more experienced than Julius Francis, but will he fare any better?
02:39Before we get to the main event, this week Showtime kicks off its new lineup of original series at 10 sharp each night, including the premieres of two new outstanding series.
02:53Time.
02:54Showtime presents a new original series based on the hit movie Soul Food.
02:59It's about knowing where you're going.
03:01It's about loving each other.
03:02For better, for worse.
03:03It's all coming back.
03:05It's about trying to figure out the whole rules of this relationship thing.
03:10It's about waking up day after day with the same woman and saying to yourself, it's all good.
03:15It's about respect.
03:17Reality with a bite.
03:19Soul Food, a new original series.
03:21That's what's coming up soon here on Showtime.
03:29But up next, our main event from Glasgow, Tyson versus Savarese.
03:33Mike Tyson, his second consecutive start in Europe as he takes on Lou Savarese in a scheduled 10-round heavyweight affair.
03:39Steve Albert back with former world champion Bobby Chez.
03:44You can hear in the background the anticipation of building as Lou Savarese makes his way to the rink.
03:52Let me first ask you, what will it take for people to be convinced that Mike Tyson is mentally and physically ready to go, still has it as a fighter?
04:02Well, Steve, he has to perform mentally and physically well.
04:05In the face of adversity, under pressure, he can't snap, he can't crack, can't start fouling or react in a bad manner as he has in the past.
04:11And physically, he has to go back to getting him behind the jab, moving his head from side to side, doing what he does.
04:16Go to the body, destroy his opponents in an expeditious fashion.
04:19And that's the Tyson of old.
04:21And as Lou Savarese makes his way into the ring, what does he have to do to pull out the upset?
04:26He has to do an awful lot, but I'm not sure that he has what it takes.
04:29He might be underestimating Tyson's speed and Tyson's power.
04:33I think that Lou Savarese has to establish a great jab, work, make Tyson pay to get inside, tie him up when he gets too close,
04:39but on the wind, bang him with the right hand, make him pay and make him earn every bit of ground he gets.
04:44Once considered a viable contender but could not produce when he stepped up the competition,
04:49the overriding feeling that Tyson, even with his fragile emotional state of mind, will beat him.
04:57Savarese is very engaging, likable, good family man.
05:00But is he even close to the skill level of a Mike Tyson, even a soon-to-be 34-year-old Tyson?
05:08And now making his way to the ring, ladies and gentlemen,
05:11here he is, the former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, Mike Tyson!
05:19Let's go, let's go.
05:33E.I.R.
05:54Let's be here!
05:56Let's be here!
06:25He's been described as a walking time bomb, an impending train wreck, an accident waiting to happen.
06:32The media feeds off Tyson as if they're just waiting for him to explode again,
06:37just adding to the curiosity and mystique of this man.
06:42Bobby, how important is it for Tyson not only to win, of course, but to win big?
06:46Make the proverbial statement tonight.
06:48You know, Steve, I believe that he wants to resurrect that old aura of invincibility that he once had.
06:53And he also wants to become the ultimate intimidator as well as annihilator as he once was.
06:58To do that, he needs to make a statement.
07:00He needs to take Savarese out in expeditious fashion without fouling,
07:04and fight the fight that he can fight that he used to fight maybe eight years ago.
07:08He needs to make that statement to get back in title contention.
07:12And just for the record, if he should lose or do something outrageous again, would this be his last chance?
07:17Well, if he loses legitimately, his stock is going to plummet.
07:20I tell you that, and I mean that sincerely.
07:22But remember something.
07:23He brings a whole lot of excitement and power to the table.
07:25They'll probably give him at least two or three more chances.
07:28If he fouls, same thing.
07:30His last fight, yes, was fighting a safe opponent.
07:33But he took care of business and looked like vintage Mike Tyson.
07:38Let's check the numbers as we go to the tail of the tape.
07:41Tyson gives away six inches in height, about 20 pounds.
07:45Tyson turns 34 June 30th.
07:47Savarese 35 July 14th.
07:49Big height and reach advantages for Savarese.
07:51Towers at 6'5", imposing 80-inch reach.
07:54At yesterday's weigh-in, Tyson a consistent 222.
07:57You saw Savarese 241 and a quarter.
08:00Key rules a bit different here.
08:01Non-title fights in the UK.
08:02Only the ref scores.
08:04No ringside judges.
08:05No standing eight.
08:06No three knockdown.
08:07A fighter cannot be saved by the bell except in the last round.
08:11And if the fight is stopped by an accidental foul and the injured fighter cannot continue,
08:15he loses by technical knockout.
08:19Mike Tyson, at this professionally since 1985.
08:24A year later, youngest champion in heavyweight history at 20.
08:27He talks it.
08:28Tommy Brooks tells us he loves to fight.
08:30He's motivated.
08:31But is he?
08:32Workouts have been closed, fueling suspicion.
08:35Speculation that a major monetary victory from a recent lawsuit has affected his mindset toward boxing.
08:41As in, do I really need this?
08:43The biggest fight in the life of Lou Savarese fighting these days out of Houston, Texas.
08:50Let's go up to our ring announcer, Jimmy Lennon, Jr.
08:53Ladies and gentlemen in attendance, boxing fans joining us across the UK on Sky Sports

09:47Also scoring the action, John Coyle.
09:51All right fans, here we go.
09:53The time has come for our main event of the evening.
09:57A heavyweight special attraction scheduled for 10 rounds of boxing.
10:01And now, ladies and gentlemen in attendance and boxing fans joining us around the world.
10:07Live from Glasgow, Scotland.
10:10It's Showtime!
10:13We're introducing to you first, ladies and gentlemen on my left, fighting out of the blue corner,
10:24wearing blue trunks and fighting out of and representing Houston, Texas in the United States.
10:30He weighed in at 17 stone, three and one quarter pounds or 241 and one quarter US pounds.
10:39His record stands at 39 wins, three losses with 32 big wins coming by way of knockout.
10:45Ladies and gentlemen, he is currently ranked the number 17 heavyweight contender by the WBC.
10:51Here is the former USBA heavyweight champion introducing Lou Savarese.
11:05And his opponent, ladies and gentlemen, across the ring, really needing no introduction the world over.
11:12On my right, fighting out of the blue corner, entering the ring, wearing his traditional black trunks,
11:18riding out of and representing Catskill, New York in the United States.
11:23His weight, 15 stone, 12 pounds, 222 US pounds.
11:29His record stands at 47 wins, three losses, one no contest with 41 wins coming by way of knockout.
11:37Ladies and gentlemen, here is the youngest man ever to win the heavyweight title.
11:43Currently ranked the WBO number one contender, presenting the two time heavyweight champion of the world.
11:50Ladies and gentlemen, he's back.
11:52Introducing the one and only Iron Mike Tyson.
12:06Once again a referee in charge, John Coyle.
12:08Display good sportsmanship and obey my instructions.
12:15Shake hands. Good luck to you both.
12:17Both fighters trying to stay warm to the very last second.
12:29It's cold and damp. Temperature in the mid 40s right now.
12:33The rain has stopped.
12:35Lou Savarese limbering up.
12:37Remember, Francis started out fast, came out aggressively against Tyson.
12:41Perhaps he figured it was his only chance.
12:43We'll see how Savarese responds at the bell.
12:47You saw the familiar sight of Tyson pacing like a caged tiger earlier.
12:52Usual expression of all business.
12:5520 of his 41 knockouts in the first round and here we go.
12:58First minute will be very telling. Savarese has to get some respect because Mike's only got one speed.
13:03It's fast forward.
13:04Within seconds down goes Savarese.
13:07A left hook by Mike Tyson and within seconds Savarese is down on the canvas.
13:21I told you Savarese was going to underestimate his speed and his power.
13:25A barrage by Tyson.
13:27The referee John Coyle steps between and he continues.
13:30Coyle's trying to stop it.
13:33Tyson says I'm sorry to the referee.
13:35He said I'm sorry.
13:36He didn't hear John Coyle's instructions and this fight may be over.
13:40It's over.
13:47There's vast confusion here.
13:48Even Tyson doesn't know if it's been stopped.
13:51Has John Coyle stopped the fight or what?
13:54He's waving his hands as if to say the fight.
13:57Yes, it's over. It's over.
13:59He stopped it, Steve. You know what?
14:00He stopped it, but he didn't do it definitively when Lou was getting hit.
14:04Savarese was a little wobbly.
14:05The referee stopped in a little prematurely, although I'll be honest with you.
14:08This fight was not going to go very far.
14:10First clean left hook with Savarese on his back and he never really recovered.
14:17Incredible.
14:23Within seconds Savarese went down and then after a barrage another big left hook scored
14:29and referee John Coyle stepped between the two and stopped the fight.
14:33Tyson didn't hear the referee's instructions continue to hit Savarese.
14:37And then after some indecision, Coyle finally said this one is officially in the books.
14:44There's still a question, Steven. I'll tell you what.
14:46If you look at that, go back and look at that again.
14:48Mike Tyson jumps right over the referee to hit Savarese.
14:51Even Mike knows that when the ref's standing there, you don't dive over him.
14:54He's separate him. Take a step back and wait for him to tell you to continue.
14:58So he's just a little too anxious.
15:00I'm wondering if his mental state is still not completely stable.
15:04Well, if I'm not mistaken, this is the third fastest knockout in a non-title fight for Mike Tyson.
15:11His fastest was 30 seconds with Marvis Frazier at 86.
15:14His second against Robert Collet, 37 seconds and 85.
15:19And now this becomes 38 seconds of round one unofficially.
15:24I thought that they would underestimate his speed as well as his power and his strength.
15:28And I think clearly they did.
15:30That left hook came out of nowhere and caught Lou and he was down and he was really hurt.
15:33So it's the fastest knockout for Tyson, we're told since Marvis Frazier.
15:43Although I did see one for 37 seconds against Robert Collet.
15:49Regardless, pretty, pretty emphatic.
15:53I believe he made a pretty good statement.
15:55So that is it, just like that.
16:01More confusion than actual boxing action, I'd say, Bobby.
16:06Yeah, and I'm not sure what they're waiting on now.
16:09I guess the referee has to address exactly what happened and why it happened.
16:13But I thought the referee was stopping the fight when he first separated Tyson from Sabarese.
16:18And that's when Mike jumped right around him and hit Lou anyway.
16:22And I don't understand why.
16:23Mike Tyson humiliating Lou Sabarese here in Glasgow, Scotland.
16:29As referee John Coyle, you just saw, stops the fight.
16:3438 seconds after it started.
16:38Let's get the official announcement, we hope, from Jimmy Lennon Jr., our ring announcer.
16:46We're coming for you!
16:48We're coming for you, man!
16:50We're coming for you, man!
16:52We're coming for you, man!
16:54We're coming for you, man!
16:56We're coming for you, man!
16:58Well, Jimmy apparently not ready to make at least the official announcement.
17:02Well, they're yelling from the Tyson corner, his cheerleader Crocodile,
17:06crocodile tell him Lennox is next and that Mike Tyson is ready for Lennox
17:13Lewis I know Tommy Brooks was telling us as Tyson bows to the crowd
17:19and hears it from the crowd
17:22Tommy Brooks wanted Lennox Lewis next he didn't even break a sweat no I don't
17:29believe he didn't and he's not gonna get one now it's cold out here that's for
17:33sure it's about 45 degrees and Mike Tyson makes very very quick work of Lou
17:39Savarese did you think this thing was gonna go at least a couple of two three
17:42maybe even four I thought that it had it really had no chance of going three full
17:47rounds that was my honest opinion I told people who asked me earlier I really
17:51didn't think that Lou was going to take his speed into account or his power and
17:55strength accurately I thought based on some of the things they said Steve they
18:00being his trainer dressed Jesse Reed as well as Lou that no it just wasn't
18:04gonna go it wasn't gonna go two rounds I thought he might get outside the first
18:07one and the crowd is not saying Lou they're saying boo this I don't know they
18:13are booing Savarese as he makes his way back to the dressing room that's what the
18:17booing was in the background
18:21looks like we're ready to go right now with the official word from Jimmy Lennon
18:25Junior ladies and gentlemen we have the time of 38 seconds in round number one a
18:34referee in charge John Coyle stops the contest then the winner iron Mike Tyson
18:41yes there's always controversy always confusion with Mike Tyson who's standing by
18:51with Jim Gray Jim yeah okay thank you Steve Mike was that your shortest fight
18:56ever I bear witness there's only one God and Mohammed blesses and peace be upon
19:00him as his prophet I dedicate this fight to my brother Darryl Baum who died I'll be
19:05here to see you I love you with all my heart all praise be to my children I love
19:10you oh God amen what is this your shortest fight ever in any time amateur
19:17professional ever assalamu alaikum Ida I don't know man yeah yeah Lennox Lewis
19:25Lennox I'm coming for you Mike is it frustrating to train like you did and then
19:30have this in seven or eight seconds for this fight I only trained probably two
19:34weeks or three weeks for this fight I had to bury my best friend and I
19:38dedicated this fight I wasn't gonna fight I dedicated this fight to him I was
19:41gonna rip his heart out I'm the best ever I'm the most brutal and vicious and most
19:45ruthless champion there's ever been there's no one can stop me links is a
19:48conqueror no I'm Alexander he's no Alexander I'm the best ever there's never
19:53been anybody I'm sunny listen I'm Jack Dempsey there's no one like I'm from
19:57Nairclaw there's no one that can match me my style is impetuous my defense is
20:01impregnable and I'm just ferocious I want your heart I want to eat his children
20:05praise be to Allah are you saying now Mike Mike
20:09all right Steve you guys could decipher that and uh we'll move on from here all
20:17right to you thank you very much uh Jim Gray the old Mike Tyson resurfacing but
20:22let's keep one thing in mind it was Lou Savarese he just beat it wasn't Rocky
20:27Marciano it wasn't Muhammad Ali it wasn't Joe Lewis it wasn't Joe Frazier we have to
20:34keep it in perspective let's get it back to uh Jim Gray this should be
20:38interesting with the referee John Coyle all right uh thank you Steve John Coyle
20:42John did you uh well tell us what happened from your vantage point here
20:47well I gave uh Savarese every chance after the count I waved into box on he took
20:52several good headshots over in this corner here and he had gone as far as I
20:55was concerned I was needed to protect him I shouted stop boxing dived in uh Mike
21:01says he didn't hear me but he must must have missed me as well because I was in
21:04between the two of them but uh anyway all's well that ends well the boy was
21:08fine afterwards so you feel as though he didn't hear you we're gonna take a look
21:11at it right here you feel as though he didn't hear you when he got in between
21:14and then he and then he got a shot in after you had gotten in between that's
21:17right yeah but the fight was over once I said stop boxing the fight was finished
21:21that was the knockdown obviously that wasn't much of a shot really it doesn't
21:25appear to be it was a high on the head though high on the temple I think you'll find that
21:28it was had a big effect big effect all right John and then he gets back up as
21:33we continue to roll through the fight you're giving him a count his eyes are
21:36clear and ready to fight in your estimation well I gave him every chance
21:39he wasn't he wasn't as I would have thought steady on his legs in my way of
21:43thinking but I gave him every chance
21:45now there we are that's the shot when I decided to go in
21:51stop boxing I push you trying not to get hit there no I'm getting my head out the
21:55way of course I am but that was the point I decided the fight was going to be over right
22:00there that's where Mike comes in no problem all right it's not a problem with you then it
22:05shouldn't be a problem with anyone else no that's all thank you all right John Coyle his thoughts on
22:09the fight Steve back for yours all right Jim well I want to ask Bobby Chez for his opinion do you
22:16think the stoppage by referee John Coyle was justified I think it was pretty close to justify if
22:21not completely justified Lou was hurt you can see his head was getting whacked around a little bit he
22:25wasn't steady on his feet Steve but I'll tell you what I'm a little concerned with the fact that Mike
22:30jumped over the referee that does concern me a little bit I'm not completely sure that his that
22:34his mental transmissions to his body are working perfectly again well he claimed that he didn't hear
22:40the referee I mean it's it's has similarities of what happened with Orlan Norris when he says he
22:45didn't hear the bell and hit him after the bell but uh right but he had to go over the referee to get
22:51to the gun so that's usually a signal if the referee's standing in between you and a fighter that you
22:56know you should just wait for the referee at least step back well he's posing for the crowd as he makes
23:01his way back to the uh the dressing room and uh just uh strangeness all the time surrounding uh this guy
23:10well you know I always say it speed times mass equals destructive power Mike is very quick and carries good
23:15mass Bobby will take another uh look from the uh from a similar angle first shot is on the top of
23:23the head it's a left hook right above his uh right glove and when he gets up you can look in his eyes
23:27he doesn't look right see it right on top of the head and I tell you they hurt watch when Lou gets up
23:31you can see a little bit in his eyes is a little glassy and his feet are not real steady under him
23:36and he's not getting up all that quickly either which would tell you it's not a flash knockdown he's been
23:40put down look in his eyes here you'll see he doesn't look that clear also he's a little shaky
23:48and as Mike continues he lands an uppercut in here somewhere in another hook
23:52and Lou has some problems he's a little shaky there in his feet
23:57watch the referee he's going to jump in there's that left hook he did it the referee is sliding in
24:03but he's sliding and trying not to get hit as he talked but now watch the referee is trying
24:08trying to separate him to say it's over and wave it off but Mike is just going over him he doesn't
24:14care he almost as if the referee is invisible yeah but I never saw the referee's mouth move
24:21and actually see him say the fight is over and so then Mike Tyson how did he know the fight was over
24:26if you're a fighter you continue to fight watch this left hook Savarese doesn't even he doesn't even
24:35look the left hook comes right off the top of his head doesn't even see hits him right on top of the
24:40right on top of the temple that's the first knockdown 11 seconds in
24:4711 seconds into the fight right off the top of the head a left hook by Mike Tyson now the end of the fight
24:53well the end of the fight lose he's you know he's still on his feet he doesn't go down
24:57but he gets wobbled there's a nice body shot left hook doesn't land Mike throws an uppercut in here and
25:04now watch there's a nice uppercut in the hook that hook gets his head up a little bit but there's
25:09another one right here there you can see Lou look at him he's sagging you could see he's in trouble
25:14if you look at his eyes he looks bad Tyson's not paying attention I can't imagine why Mike is not
25:22giving the referee the room to get in there and separate them that's logically what to do that's
25:27we're all trained to do Mike is a Mike is one-dimensional yeah there's no reason for that
25:33that was blatant there's no reason for that but I'll tell you what Mike's interview will tell you
25:37why he did that Mike's Mike is in a raging mode his interview after the fight should tell you exactly
25:43why he did that he is emotional about a death and he has a one set mind right now and that was to really
25:49hurt Lou Savers you know it just punctuated what happened in the ring his thoughts to Jim Gray after the
25:55the fight
25:59well that was something unbelievable now from what you saw here tonight Bobby and we didn't see very
26:05much because the fight ended in 38 seconds uh does does he have I would say he has what it takes to
26:12fight Lennox Lewis right now I personally think he beats Lennox Lewis styles make fights he still may have
26:17trouble beating and Evander Holyfield and then there's a guy I always talk about Ike Ibiabuchi who
26:21we may never see but I think he beats Lennox Lewis because Lennox Lewis has shown he does not take a good
26:26shot well but even more important than not taking it well he does not recover very quickly and that is
26:31something with Mike Tyson if you don't do and you can't do you can't win but did Tyson in your estimation
26:37seem totally out of control he seemed a little bit out of control that's for sure but he seemed a little
26:43quicker than usual but very lethal Steve he's dangerous well I think that's probably what's
26:47going through the mind of one Lennox Lewis right now don't you think this guy's dangerous Lennox Lewis
26:52is a very confident fighter and accomplished boxer at six foot five with much better skills than
26:56Lou Savers a better jab a better right hand and better moving skills however I'm not sure he's big
27:03enough in the chin department to stand up to Mike's power now the month of heavyweights that we just saw
27:09here on Showtime here for the month of June we saw people survive like David Tua Andrew Galata and
27:15now of course Mike Tyson Evander Holyfield versus John Ruiz is coming up uh in uh when in August um
27:22what are your thoughts what's your assessment right now on the uh on the heavyweight picture overall well
27:26I think the same thing applies to David Tua if he hits Lennox Lewis I believe he could take him out
27:31he carries pretty good speed even more weight than Mike and that weight thing well we'll see what David
27:36Tua if he carries that 253 pounds as well but this is this is a great fight here Tyson Tua what a what
27:42a fight that one yeah or Tyson Galata train wreck the only time that we'd have to wear cups here at
27:48ringside let's go to Jim Gray I know you want to hear what Lou Savarese has to say Jim all right thank
27:52you very much uh Steve I'm here with Lou Savarese Lou do you know what happened yeah I got caught with a
27:57left hook I know I threw a jab he uh slipped it and caught me with a great punch and that's the nature of the
28:02beast just off the top of your head yeah he hit me I think up by the temple uh up high and he uh
28:08I lost my obviously hit my equilibrium I got I got back up and the referee stopped the fight
28:13were you ready to continue at the point that he stopped the fight I felt I was ready to continue
28:17you know the referee is a great referee he's been around a long time so you know you don't everyone
28:21uh question their judgment but you know as a fighter you always think you're ready to fight I can't
28:25you know I'm of course I'm highly disappointed I trained so hard for this fight
28:29for four months I'm in great shape but you know uh you know uh it can happen to get caught unfortunately
28:34to be caught in seven or eight seconds it's almost unbelievable isn't it yeah I mean you know it's
28:39uh obviously not a good feeling by no means uh it caught me cold it was pretty cold out there but
28:44that's no excuse I mean he caught me a good shot do you think Mike did you realize the fight was being
28:49stopped no I thought they were I saw that Mike had to hit the referee I don't know by mistake or whatever
28:55happened and I thought the referee was just coming over and pushing Mike back and I thought the fight was
28:59going to keep going so when Mike hit you when when the referee was attempting to break it up
29:04you didn't feel as though that was beyond the scope of what he should be doing you know I uh
29:11obviously do you remember I had other things on my mind I was just trying to refocus get and protect
29:15myself at all times I mean I saw Mike kept coming I I got my bearings and uh were you hurt yeah I
29:20definitely got hit you know I got caught cold like I could have continued I mean you know as a fighter I
29:24don't once again I don't like the you know great referee in there but I know I could have continued
29:29I mean I'm an adorable guy I've got up on the off the floor a bunch of times but that you know
29:32Mike caught me a good shot Lou we appreciate your time thank you answering these questions thanks guys
29:37all right back out to you Steve all right Jim thank you very much uh boy I tell you what this fight
29:43went by so quickly let's take another look it only lasted 38 seconds into the first round here we go
29:51the beginning of the fight between Mike Tyson and Lou Savarese and count up to 11 seconds you'll see
29:56what happens well I said he was going to underestimate the speed and power of Mike and he did he didn't
30:01end right on top of the head I mean literally in the opening seconds he didn't gauge his speed at all
30:07underestimated the speed clearly didn't realize that kind of power existed and he's never really
30:13settled his head is still not clear and Mike comes in and this one left hook on his side there and that
30:19one you can see he's almost bent to there and here comes the referee
30:26the referee very Mike Tyson Mike Tyson in no way shape or form can condone what he did there
30:31he can't justify that that was a little out of control if not a lot out of control over the top of the
30:35the referee you just don't do that you just don't do that when a referee steps in what is the rule do
30:41you go by the referee's gyrations or do you go by what the referee says well you do both but the
30:48referee usually does say what he's doing while he's doing it there was hard to tell because even
30:53Lou Savarese didn't think the fight was over the referee didn't make it clear to him or Tyson and Tyson
30:58was obviously on the initiating of the punishment what about the the camp of Mike Tyson running rushing
31:05into the ring aren't there isn't that grounds for disqualification no both camps actually did
31:09believe it or not both sides did and i believe what they were trying to do was get Mike off because
31:13they're afraid that Mike might get disqualified again if they too were not sure that the referee
31:18was stopping the fight but merely breaking a clinch we basically had two things here to uh to make
31:23issues out of did the referee make the right decision number one and uh is it grounds for uh a penalty
31:30for Mike Tyson for doing what he did for for continuing to fight continuing to hit loose
31:36Savarese after the referee was trying to get inside to break it up and stop the fight i'm gonna try and
31:40not be a politician here and not give you the diplomatic answer because i think what happened
31:44here is this the referee stopped the fight fight was over mike didn't hear that and he still went after
31:48him i think he went after him in a bad manner could have been called on the foul to fight we're still going
31:53on but the fight was over even if it's a foul it's a foul after the termination of the bout so you're
31:59saying that Tyson lost control once again because the referee was clearly between him and the fighter
32:07and even if the referee wasn't mouthing the words the fight is over that he was out of control and that
32:13he should have been penalized in some way i'm not sure he should have been penalized but the referee was
32:17too tentative in starting to break in with his hand he was in a little out of time he wasn't aggressive
32:21he wasn't loud and vocal enough the referee needed to be a little more definitive in what he was
32:26trying to do and i think that would have settled everything i agree with you on the first part that
32:31that the the referee had grounds for stopping the fight especially after seeing the replays it was
32:35i mean he savarese was like a rag doll in there he looked like he had no future in this fight he
32:39looked like he could have gotten hurt seriously all right let's take another look at the knockdown
32:45as we check out the action from earlier tonight this fight ending in 38 seconds
32:49he jumps him with a left hook high on top of the head
32:55part temple part top of his head and the top of his head there's a soft spot but that if you don't
32:59see that it does hurt trust me i've been in the gym many times been hit with headgear on that in that
33:04spot he does hurt and he didn't see it the fact that he didn't see it makes it hurt even more
33:09and now we'll watch what happens toward the very very end
33:11now when the referee comes in you got to watch he's very tentative mike is focused doesn't see
33:20anything but what's in front of him and he's on a destruct and destroy mission there's another shot
33:24that left uppercut and this right to the throat see the referee just puts an arm in a little at a
33:29time and he doesn't really get in
33:33watch mike now come over the top of the referee's head and swing at lou savaries and hit him right
33:39here he has to realize the referee has lou savaries totally covered and he comes around hits the referee
33:45missing savaries and now is still going after savaries
33:50he's wrecking the referee in the process of trying to wreck lou savaries and i i personally there's no
33:55excuse for it it's like a street fight a bar fight as uh tyson just just went around the referee
34:02and continued his assault on lou savaries and you know what he had to realize the referee was in
34:07between him and savaries because he definitely could not to hit the referee so that lets you know he
34:12recognized that was the referee in his face boy this is wild and wacky stuff here in glasgow scotland
