03:20by the way terp uh another loss last night another bad loss to the sixers specifically just like opening
03:26night they had a win sandwiched in there in the middle over philly uh you look up at the standings
03:30we're 12 games in they're five and seven they are not only missing the playoffs entirely
03:36they're not even in the play in as of today there's four teams worse than them in the east
03:40they are the three-win hornets the one-win nets the one-win pacers the one-win wizards other than
03:46that that's where the celtics reside not great how bad has it been i mean the clutch is what i look at
03:52with this team and it happened again last night they're two and five in clutch games this year and
03:56the nba defines the clutches the game within five points in the final five minutes and they just can't
04:00win those games and if you look at the advanced numbers with them they're 21st in offensive rating
04:0428th in defensive rating a minus 32.7 net rating that's points per 100 possessions that's atrocious
04:10they've been outscored by i think it's 18 points the second most in the league in those clutch moments
04:15and you're seeing it's not like those you get a lot of lead way because you're talking about a team
04:20that's figuring itself out a younger team in those moments it's not and last night it was derrick
04:25white and jalen brown it's like your most established players need to show up in that in that sense and
04:29they're not and i understand that everyone's learning new roles it's still a new feel and it's
04:33a new system but you gotta find a way to win those close games because you're going to be playing in
04:37a lot of them and not that jason tatum hit every buzzer shot he ever took obviously we talked about
04:42it quite a bit last year and some of the numbers that that he has had there but is that what you
04:46think is the biggest uh issue right now is for guys like brown and white to now be like in an elevated
04:52role and like our game on the line and even if they are the ones taking the shot just having somebody
04:57like tatum out there would cause all kinds of you know attention necessarily know it's that because
05:02they're two defensive rebounds away from being 500 yeah yeah i mean instead you're five and seven
05:06you're sitting at your worst record worst start to a season since the 2014 season you're too often
05:11or two defensive rebounds away just get a rebound like that's well that's what's tough because last
05:15night's the game where they actually have the rebounding edge for the game but then when you need
05:19one or two you desperately need one you can't get it was one of their best rebounding nights last night
05:22but everyone's going to remember that offensive rebound that cost them the game because that's when that
05:26stuff matters like you can do it and obviously like there's so much that has to go wrong during
05:31a game to be in that situation in the first place so it wasn't perfect and last night we saw with the
05:35shooting but you gotta get those rebounds in those situations like that cannot happen it's cost them
05:40two games uh jalen brown i thought would uh carry them to more wins than he has through 12 games i thought
05:45he individually would look better uh how would you grade jalen's start to the year i mean i think he's been
05:51great he's fourth in scoring total scoring this year he's doing just about everything he can it's like when
05:56you're looking down the roster it's like what about winning games and taking over late in games and
06:00like he needs to be that guy without tatum so the numbers are the numbers that's fine you know last
06:05night they needed baskets down the stretch and he wasn't providing them so i don't know i mean i guess
06:11i'm more talking about that and they're five and seven he's the best player on the team he's got to wear
06:16some of that yeah i mean i mean what was it the orlando game he only had two points in the fourth
06:20quarter the friday night loss last night i think it was only three like yeah he has to be better
06:23in those scenarios but no one else is hitting shots they're kind of forced they're throwing
06:28two at him there's really nothing you can really do so i think part of it is he needs the players
06:32around him and he's not exempt from this like he hasn't been perfect he's been very good
06:35hasn't been perfect especially down the stretch but if he needs players around them then what is he
06:39you know and and well then he's zach levine he's like one of these guys that could put up points
06:44on a bad and i thought he was better than that so i thought and he has the luxury of being
06:48surrounded by great players and typically tatum when he's healthy but i thought he was a lot more
06:52than that if he's just a guy who when they double and triple team him they erase him and teammates
06:56have to beat them then what is he and i that's disappointing to me yeah i mean you said it
07:01earlier though like that jordan walsh playing down the stretch and he's been great but like jordan
07:04walsh and namir is in your closing lineup like what do you want him to do you know like i again he
07:09hasn't been perfect but like i want i want him to take over and maybe not try to dunk at the end of
07:14the game maybe instead of trying to dunk and you know put somebody on a poster uh get the basket lay
07:19it up like go with the easier hoop like i don't know i think there's a lot he could have done in
07:22that game last night and they try to get it to him at the end and they blew it up and it's a 40-foot
07:26shot in the final minute there and you know the execution just hasn't been there uh obviously the
07:31big ben we knew going into the year was going to be uh an issue i think kate is more than fine like
07:37i like kate i think kate is he's been one of the pretty good positive development yeah especially
07:40like in the modern nba this isn't you know patrick ewing david robinson shaquille o'neal like those guys
07:46aren't really in the league so i'll take kate that's fine uh sort of the ups and downs of josh
07:50minot like you know there are certain nights where the guy looks great there are other nights where
07:54not so much i guess that's just kind of what you're gonna get right but like where are you
07:58at with him specifically right now the whole the collection of wings is really interesting to me as
08:02well because you've seen this with ugo gonzalez where he's had good games and he hasn't really
08:06played the next game josh minot's been great since he got inserted to the starting lineup but only
08:10eight minutes last night and didn't play in the second half and i think that's kind of the luxury
08:14they have when they have a lot of depth with you know like with jordan walsh playing well and sam
08:19hauser as well but i mean it's part of it i think it's his first time in an everyday role he hasn't
08:24really played consistently so that's going to be part of the learning curve but yeah for the most part
08:28he's been good it's just these last couple you know he struggled a little bit so i the fact that
08:33we're dealing with minot and yugo gonzalez and jordan walsh who i'm sorry the more he plays the
08:38worst sign it is for the team like i just i he's been good though he's been by the numbers last
08:44the last four games he's been his defensive numbers i i know are allegedly good that's a
08:48real small sample size like his numbers last night on tyree's maxi for instance are really good
08:52i take tyree's maxi a thousand times out of a thousand in that matchup so nine against him
08:56say it again tyree's maxi shot one of nine against jordan walsh i just that's that's three consecutive
09:01stops down the stretch it's one game and i just i would i would tend to think that that's a small
09:05sample size with wall it's all a small sample size but like he hasn't had much opportunity
09:08no i think for a good reason if you have good players he doesn't need to play a lot so i think the fact
09:13that you're playing those guys on the wing why not who i actually been pretty impressed with you
09:18go who does nothing for me jordan walsh same like the fact they're playing so much that you do go
09:24back to the offseason and you go you know you could have had actual players on this team you
09:27didn't have to be playing those guys some combination of them 30 minutes a night you didn't
09:32need to do that and it's just it's odious to go back and look at the way they approach this
09:36offseason to play guys like that every night and that that's a big part of their problem
09:40yeah i mean i mean i look more at the size as well like the part of the reason the kata numbers
09:45are so skewed is because they don't really have anything behind them and luca garza has been better
09:50the last two games but like you see what happens when you have a center on the floor that can make
09:55plays that's why the kata numbers and the on off and the the plus minus look so good because he's
10:00actually a traditional center they have some size and they can kind of run their offense a little
10:03bit differently that's why they kind of need him out there and again the kata thing has been great
10:07him developing into a player that you think can possibly contribute on the next iteration
10:11of the championship contending roster and you know that might not be as a starter right like right
10:16now i'd probably feel more comfortable with him as your number two but you don't have anything behind
10:21him and i think that's kind of why these numbers are so skewed and that's not to take anything away
10:24from kata because he has been good but i mean it it more so says like what this roster is and like
10:30you're getting just serviceable play from kata and it's making them look like one of the you know best
10:34bigs in the league what uh what else can missoula do in your mind is there anything else he can do
10:39is it is it tinkering with lineups is it anything specific that maybe could spark a change i mean i
10:45think he's going to continue to tinker with the lineups i wouldn't be surprised at all if jordan
10:48walsh starts tonight over josh minot and they play did might not play at all in the second half he
10:53started the second half so my so my right so i would be surprised if they do that and then if it
10:57doesn't work with walsh it's back to my not kind of thing i think it's i think it's spinning the dial
11:01with him but i'm disappointed in him too i thought missoula would show more as a coach i thought brown
11:06would look like a lead dog i thought white and pritchard wouldn't stink they have i thought
11:10they'd make shots i guess white made some last night like i just thought more out of all these
11:13guys missoula included like they've all been disappointed as bad as the bottom of the roster
11:17is and i blame ownership for that and as crappy as their approach was selling off pieces to save the
11:22new owner some money which i think is pathetic as bad as all that is the real problem is the guys
11:27who are supposed to be good aren't performing i mean that's their real issue i mean look at the first half
11:31last night i mean luka garza had more points than derrick white and peyton pritchard combined i mean
11:36those those guys are hurting them big time and that might just be exposed because they're in roles
11:40they're not supposed to be i think derrick white we mentioned this last week like i thought he might
11:44be an all-star i mean the guys on the olympic team for god's sakes i thought he would step up and be
11:48you know closer to like 20 plus points per game and again in the modern nba that's not even that wild
11:53right like he's averaging like 15 he's not shooting very well peyton pritchard has not been able to
11:59find the three-point shot all year long go from sixth minute of the year to hey you're now in the
12:04starting lineup you need to be our third leading scorer i don't know i think those guys weren't
12:08really ready for that like i think they're worse based on their expectations than even like kata or
12:13for honestly like my not even is and i understand that they're doing other things right like derrick
12:17white's been great defensively peyton pritchard's been great moving the ball they've both been
12:21rebounding but this team needs them to score yes oh that's the reality like they can do all these
12:26great thing and that stuff's great and like you can't overstate the value of that but they need
12:31them to score just with the makeup of this roster so they need them to be better and at some point
12:35it's like you have to start getting a little concerned it's 12 games now it's a healthy enough
12:40sample size where it's like okay what's going on here and i was thinking about it like maybe maybe it
12:45is the more aggressive play style they're playing defensively where they're taking more risk and
12:49they're picking up full court like maybe you're getting a little bit more tired and you don't have
12:53your legs under you because like i just don't understand how two guys that made like led the
12:57league in threes last year were both top 10 all of a sudden you know can't buy a bucket and i
13:02understand they're in different roles and they're creating for each other but even last night like
13:06derrick white missed how many wide open corner threes like three or four of them like that's the
13:11best shot in basketball right and you would trust him to make those a lot of people are texting uh
13:16why doesn't simon start would you make a switch i i think he needs to play more i mean we're
13:21talking about this offense and they're not doing enough offensively and you have a guy like anthony
13:26simons who can just explode i mean he's top eight i believe in three pointers made and he's done that
13:31in a limited role they need to play him more he's been a little better too with the ball than i thought
13:35like he had a nice play with his left hand going to the hoop last night where i was like oh okay i kind
13:39of thought yeah i kind of thought he was more you know spot up shooter and less to his game than so i've
13:45been impressed with that out of him i wanted pritchard to start at the beginning of the year you
13:49wanted pritchard off the bench keith yeah i want simons to start 100 and simons is shooting 41
13:53from three and he is he is an offensive player so like need that in a sixth and threes made yeah in
13:59a vacuum is that what i want probably not i don't know if that's like is the be all end all but
14:03they're five and seven and make a switch yeah that might that might not be a bad way to go about it
14:07especially the way we're talking about the offense like they need scoring that's the reality of it
14:10there's not a ton of guys on this team that are really natural scorers and you know we're talking
14:15about that for really like with jordan walsh and josh minot like they've been hitting their corner
14:19threes to their credit but you know you're not expecting them to score night in night out for you
14:23same thing with kata and garza like they kind of just play down in the post and i mean that kata
14:28three last night i i got like he makes those in warm-ups yeah i know it's a lot different
14:32he almost i mean the one last night that was wide open it almost hit the rim i mean that was pretty
14:36good it almost it almost grabbed the rim last night you grab a little bit of rim i mean tonight
14:40they are playing memphis another bad team they are real bad what do you ends up happening with
14:45john moran he's been terrible plus there's all like the whole sideshow with him but like you
14:50could put up with it if he was playing like an all nba player but all he does is like turn it over
14:54and miss shots now i think i i could have sworn i saw the stat i'd have to go back and double check
14:58it but over the last like four games he has more turnovers than made field goals yeah that sounds
15:03right he's been really bad they still have jaron jackson and then the rest of their roster is like
15:08nothing it feels like they've been stuck in like a constant injury bug for like three years too like
15:12they were like set like a record for most different starting lineups they need to blow it out yeah they
15:17need to blow it out and i think he's front and center with that and clearly he's not engaged no and
15:21that's an issue uh they're one of the few teams in the nba worse than the celtics but they do but
15:26they do have um they have this stretch of games so right now they're two games under 500 and they
15:31have memphis they have the clippers who haven't been good then they have the nets for two games in a row
15:35like you almost need to like but this is already the stretch where you thought they'd
15:38be fattening up right like once they got you'd expect once they got through the rockets game
15:42this is where you thought they'd start winning games and they're they're not and it's the close
15:46games again like they had a chance with orlando they had a chance last night they had a chance
15:50against utah losing to utah was a killer that was probably the worst another offensive or late
15:56offensive rebound like and we knew it was going to be an issue but there are certain times where it
16:00can't happen like it cannot happen we need to get one right well that's another thing you'd like
16:05jalen to do is box out you know so i mean that that's another one where i thought both the philly
16:09losses were so bad i thought the opening night this one last night that the jazz loss individually is
16:15worse because yeah but i hated both of these philly losses and in fairness the sixers have been better
16:19than i thought they were going to be this year at seven and four but that's still frustrating to me
16:23uh let's say this is what they are turp you know they are uh the 11 seed in the east and jason tatum's
16:29ready to come back what do they do again i think the the conversation between him coming back and how
16:34they're playing are completely separate like if this is where they're at i think it's actually
16:37might be a positive to bring him back because you're not expecting him to put on his cape and
16:41lead them to the to the playoffs and play playoff minutes like i guess you're the only thing you
16:46wouldn't want is his first minutes back to be like high leverage playoff minutes or games trying to get
16:51in like you probably wouldn't want him playing in those in his first game back right you'd probably
16:55want a little bit oh i'd be lesser i'd be fine with that i mean you could still manage his minutes but i i hope
17:00he comes back to a good team and he's he's playing to make them uh uh either improve their standing in
17:06the eastern conference or to help go on a run in the eastern cut like i hope he comes back to a good
17:09team but i it doesn't look like that's what it's gonna be i don't think looking at like the record if
17:13if they're if they are playing bad and like you said they're towards the bottom like outside of the
17:18play and i don't think that should be a reason that you don't bring them back i think any minutes that
17:21he can get on the floor to relearn his body to get reacclimated just see the floor is a positive
17:26no matter what the sense is and obviously he's not going to come in and be playing 30 40 minutes
17:31a game like i think there's there's examples of both right like kevin durant same injury he missed
17:36the entire season they just put him on ice and they brought him back the next year and then he was
17:40kind of good to go different injury but didn't like paul george and gordon hayward those were like
17:45horrific injuries it wasn't achilles but i think they came back and did like uh 10 games yeah 10 games
17:51or something like that and then we're ready for the next season so i just think it'd be interesting if
17:55tatum wants to play and they want to shut him down because they want to they're in the lottery
17:58and they want to improve their lottery i think you can do both though like you play him like 18 minutes
18:02and so it's like you know he helps you but he's not closing the game they're still going to give
18:06up an offensive board they're still going to end up losing a lot of those games even if he plays i
18:10think that would be the most interesting push and pull and unfortunately for them i think that's
18:14right what they're on track for uh outside of the play-in right now uh so uh every week at this time
