A senior Metropolitan Police officer is accused of trying to frame a colleague with a fake racism claim before his son allegedly lied to try to take the blame, a court has heard.Chief Inspector Zahir Asghar, 45, is accused of plotting with his cousin, Afrasayab Aslam, to make a bogus allegation that Superintendent Lisa Butterfield had racially abused an Uber Eats rider.When he fell under suspicion, Asghar is alleged to have conspired for his son, Ibrahim, to make a false statement to police taking responsibility for the bogus complaint.

00:05over a bogus allegation of racial abuse. Chief Inspector Zaheer Asghar is accused of
00:11misconduct in a public office and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice over the alleged
00:16incident which dates back to 2023. It is said that he concocted a plan to set up a superintendent
00:25in the Met accusing her of racially abusing a delivery driver when that incident did not take
00:32place. It is then alleged that Asghar's son went to the police in a plan to try to take the blame
00:41for the incident. Asghar appeared in the building behind me, Southwark Crown Court, on Wednesday to
00:47deny misconduct in a public office. He and his cousin who is jointly accused have already denied two
00:55counts of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice. The trial has been set in 2027.
