00:00Alright guys, the 10th edition of ArtX. It's the city of Lagos yet again. I'm going to tell you what an amazing event it has been here at the Federal Palace Hotel here in Victoria Island, Lagos. If you're not here, you are missing out big time. Why? Because this year's edition marks a decade of this event and over 2,000 works of art.
00:21And not just about the arts alone, there were sessions for the cinema, ArtX Talks, networking, good music, foods, and I'm going to say cultural heritage beyond mind-blowing.
00:32But do not worry because we are here to make sure you do not miss a bit of the happenings here at the 10th edition of ArtX, happening at the Federal Palace Hotel on Victoria Island, Lagos.
00:42On look at the ULUMU for Guardian TV, your highs and hears. Come along with us.
00:51Hello. My name is Aaron Z. Stanley. I'm a visual artist.
01:21from Lagos, Nigeria. Well, it's been a dream for me to be part of such a beautiful event, showcasing my art here at ArtX, the 10th anniversary.
01:34This is my fourth year in a row exhibiting at this show. And it's, I must quite tell you, it's a beautiful event where we have a lot of art enthusiasts coming together to come and connect with the artists.
01:47To me, I feel like it's a privilege to be here, you know, working in the studio from, you know, year in, year out, and to have a day to celebrate the artists.
02:00I think it's something that we all need to come together and celebrate because the artists are the life of the society.
02:09Hi, hello.
02:10Well, ArtX is here to stay. The whole world is just realizing that Lagos, Nigeria is the center of the world, and we're so pleased to have such, such phenomenal modern art.
02:28Please remember that West Africa was ahead of the rest of the world in terms of modern art. And the whole world is just waking up to that.
02:39Picasso was copying African arts, you know, in the 1930s and 40s in Cubism and all that. And so, you know, now we're here to tell our own story.
02:53My name is Adewale Kolawoleijan. I'm a visual artist from Ibadah. And my work is about Yoruba tradition, the old Yoruba traditional musicians, the past, the previous ones.
03:10The ones that have played music back in the old days, in the 30s, 40s.
03:29This is like my first time back in Lagos in a while.
03:56So it's been really nice to take in the different art pieces that I've seen around.
04:00So in the future, I look forward to coming to more exhibitions like this.
04:05And, you know, I tend to go for stuff that's Afrocentric because of how I am, my personality, what I like.
04:11And yeah, so this is, this is sort of what I've gone for today. This is, yeah, this is art in itself.
04:17I think also, when you look at a lot of African hairstyles like Kolese and Patewo and things like that, you can see the beauty in it.
04:26You can see the art in it. And that's what I like to go for. It means that I can dress down in some aspects because of my hair is enough. And yeah.
04:33And yes.
04:45And yeah.
04:46And I'll see you again next time.
04:47I'll see you again next time.
04:49Bye.
