From loading to arrival, Tiff Davey from The Livestock Collective walks us through the handling of sheep on a live export vessel.
Transcript
00:00At the Livestock Collective we're committed to transparency both literally and figuratively
00:10and we're proud to offer vessel tours whenever logistically possible. We believe that a united
00:16supply chain is vital and that everyone involved in agriculture benefits from understanding the
00:21broader industry. The vessel tours give growers, university students or just anyone curious about
00:26agriculture and live export the chance to come on board, see livestock get loaded and gain insights
00:32into how life and operations work at sea. As an accredited on-board stockman I know that I'm really
00:38proud to share the role that we play, that the veterinarians who sail with the Livestock Play and
00:44the crew are to ensure the highest standards of care and welfare for the animals during their journey.
00:49The number of animals or livestock on board a vessel varies depending the size of the vessel but they
00:55provided with feed and water straight away as they're loaded and throughout the entire voyage.
01:01The on-board stock people work with the crew to check the livestock throughout the day and then
01:06any vessel that's got sheep on board or a long-haul vessel we all have a veterinary on board so that's
01:11what the hospital pens will be for to take any sick, injured or just any animals that need some
01:17time, love and care to those pens for veterinarians on board to treat.
