Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp criticises the High Court’s ruling on asylum hotels, calling it a “slap in the face”. According to the High Court, asylum seekers can continue living at an Essex hotel after a council lost a landmark legal battle at the High Court to remove them.

00:00Well, this judgment is a slap in the face to the people of Epping,
00:04administered by a Labour government who hired lawyers to argue
00:08that the rights of illegal immigrants are more important
00:11than the rights of local people in places like Epping.
00:14That was a disgraceful thing for the Labour government to do,
00:17and it would affect communities not just in Epping,
00:19but up and down the country, who are deeply worried, rightly,
00:22about these asylum hotels, which house illegal immigrants.
00:25And we know that women and young girls are particularly at risk,
00:28as we saw from the tragic case here.
