00:00Uzbekistan is turning higher education into a driver of technological change.

00:05At the center of this shift stands New Uzbekistan University.

00:09It was founded in 2021 under the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziayev.

00:14One of the missions of the universities is to show that the universities can be integrated very well

00:20to the business, to the industry, to the government, to all of the stakeholders.

00:25It operates as Uzbekistan's first public autonomous university

00:30with a focus on engineering, information technology and applied sciences.

00:35We do a different approach, trying to make the students not smart or clever,

00:40but certainly trying to find smarter solutions and clever solutions for problems.

00:46Alongside its programs, the university is building a community of motivated young people from across Uzbekistan.

00:55It's programs are designed in partnership with the Technical University of Monique,

01:18Khalifa University and others.

01:20So we're working together to support the university and also to strengthen the professors here,

01:28the students here, as you can see, bringing them together also with European partners,

01:34other universities, building up other exchange programs together.

01:37Today, 80 faculty members work at the university.

01:40Almost 50% of the academic staff previously taught at universities ranked in the Times Higher Education Top 600.

01:48I started studying in this year in Uzbekistan University and I was really motivated to start startups.

01:53In my first year of studying, I won with my team in a BRB Fintech hackathon.

01:58We got investment for 100 million for our startup.

02:02Technology companies such as Apple, Huawei and Yandex have opened specialized training centers on campus.

02:09We actually teach students how to work with Swift language, how to construct some apps for iPhone, iPads and so on.

02:16They have three months of courses.

02:19After successful completion of the exams, they get the certificate and they can find the job to work as a junior developer for iOS.

02:29The president has announced an artificial intelligence cluster to be based in the university.

02:34All across the country, nearly 20,000 teachers are going to be trained on the AI literacy and also AI tools until the next year.

02:44Starting next year, New Uzbekistan University plans to open new schools of medicine and agrotechnology along with a medical clinic.

02:52The goal is to link education with real sectors of the economy.
