00:00Two analysts have interpreted Hamza Zainudi's expression of readiness to succeed Bersatu

00:13University Technology Malaysia's Mazlan Ali said the statement by Hamza, the party's

00:18deputy president, could also be viewed as a subtle nudge for Muhyiddin to step aside

00:22and facilitate a smooth transition.

00:24Mazlan, however, told FMT that Hamza had unwittingly piled additional pressure on Muhyiddin who

00:31knows he must step down as president to avoid internal divisions within Bersatu and a strain

00:36of the party's relations with PAS.

00:39He went on to predict that Muhyiddin would likely pass the baton to Hamza before the 16th

00:44general election.

00:46In an interview with BFM last week, Hamza claimed that Muhyiddin intends to hand over the Bersatu

00:51presidency to him once he decides to step down.

00:54Meanwhile, Academy News Antares Azmi Hassan described Hamza's remarks as a tactic to

00:58pressure Muhyiddin into committing to a leadership transition timeline.

01:03He said it was a pre-emptive strike to force Muhyiddin to transfer the power to him because

01:08there are rumors that Muhyiddin prefers Secretary General Azmin Ali to take over.
