Analyst Awang Azman Pawi says the split runs deep between factions loyal to Muhyiddin Yassin and Hamzah Zainudin, with PAS favouring a prime minister candidate under 70.
00:01Bersatu President Muhyiddin Yassin appears to be in a dilemma as he works to strengthen his influence and restore party discipline after months of internal conflict.
00:10That's the view of analyst Awang Azman Pawi from University Malaya, who also warned that such actions could worsen divisions and further strain the party's relationship with PAS.
00:21He said the sacking of Tasik Gelugur MP1 Saifu Wanjan and four division chiefs was aimed at curbing factions opposing the party leadership.
00:31Awang Azman noted that divisions within the party have deepened with camps supporting either Muhyiddin or Hamzah Zainuddin for top party posts.
00:40He added that PAS's support for Hamzah has only increased the tension.
00:45Azni Hassan from Academy Nusantara said the opposing camp could use this period to reorganize and strategize.
00:53Meanwhile, Shazza Shukri from the International Islamic University Malaysia felt that Wan Saifu's sacking was harsher than expected and could be seen as excessive.
