09:13To give you guys some more insight into Kalia, we have a special guest.
09:18Vice President and Head Designer for Kalia, Alicia Scott.
09:22Hi guys.
09:23So good to meet all of you.
09:24We created Kalia about 10 years ago.
09:25And really wanted to form a brand that is the perfect juxtaposition of fashion and femininity
09:39and function.
09:40And I love how you guys have all styled all your pieces you got today.
09:43Our entire collection is rooted in performance.
09:46If you're designing a look for Pilates or run, it needs to be able to function.
09:51We believe there's beauty in the burn.
09:53How's it going to work whenever she is doing a downward dog?
09:56Make sure that when you're designing a piece, it can be used for working out, going to grab
10:01coffee, going out to grab cocktails with your friends.
10:04It needs to be versatile.
10:06So not only has Kalia provided look books, it also provided all the fabrications for the challenge.

10:13Kalia is going to produce and sell the winning look from the winning collection.

12:30So as we're going through these fabrics that Kalia provided us, we're really paying attention to what color palette we want to do so that we really nail that cohesion this time.
12:40Because if we miss it two times in a row, we're going to be done for.

14:11I grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina, but my Nana was a tailor from Nagasaki, Japan.
14:18So I find a lot of inspiration in what the Japanese call intangible cultural treasures.
14:25But my mama would say that I don't bring enough of the South with me.

15:08I'm trying to always like see things that I like about vintage fashion, but then giving it like my own little twist.

15:19I grew up in like a hoedunk farm town.
15:21I just felt inherently so different from the rest of my family.
15:24The only thing I could really do was, you know, rely on my own creativity and imagination to kind of distract me from maybe not feeling like it belonged there.
15:34Did they accept you as you are?
15:36Like, you know, when I finally did come out, they were like, we don't get it yet, but we just don't want to lose you.
15:44So we're going to try to figure this out.
15:46I feel really blessed to be able to have my family in my life.
15:51So it makes me want to really push myself to win this for them.
