13:00The imams preach from texts called Hadith.
13:04For Iranian Shias, the five daily prayers are said in three phases.
13:11During prayers, Shia worshippers place a clay slab beneath their forehead.
13:15This slab is often dug from a holy site, like Kerbala or Mashal.
13:28Shias believe in the Tawid, the oneness of God.
13:32Their holy book is the Koran.
13:34And they believe in the Prophet Muhammad, in the resurrection and the final judgment.
13:39They have to fulfill certain fundamental obligations, the five pillars of Islam.
13:46Belief in the oneness of God, daily prayer, giving alms, pilgrimage to Mecca and fasting at Ramadan.
13:56Shias believe in the justice of God and the imamate.

24:31After Iranian Islamic Revolution, the planners and the government and the leaders of government,
24:42they wanted to establish, review our culture, the strong parts of our culture.
24:51So they start to make a vivid feature of our culture.
25:02One part of our culture is in our sports.
25:07In our sport, Zurkhaneh is very important, so they start to make a federation for Zurkhaneh.
25:20We don't have it before our revolution.
25:24Now, this is the institution that tries to know this to the world, by the way, with the Iranian
25:35youngsters too.
25:37So, I think the future of this federation and this sport is going to be very good.
25:46And it's going to be a little bit better than the past.
25:52It was before our Islamic religion.
25:55It was a part of Iranian empire that they wanted, you know, to train the soldiers, the soldiers
26:04that they wanted to go to war fields, you know.
26:09They should be prepared for the war.

33:19Tehran has many parks and public gardens, around 800 in total, where Iranian families like
33:46to gather at the weekends.
33:48They come to stroll and picnic, and so get away from the city's pollution.
33:53One of the most famous of these is the 14-hectare artificial forest park of Chitgar in the west

39:17Iran is a great exporter of the latter.
39:49Iranian society is heavily influenced by religion and the existence of its organized clergy, the mullahs.
40:12Members of the shia clergy are permitted to teach and interpret religious law on the condition that they've studied and earned a diploma.
40:29There's a hierarchy within the clergy in which each mullah has a title according to his religious knowledge.
40:39Iran has two major pilgrimage sites, Imam Reza's mausoleum at Mashhad and Fatima's at Qum.

44:08In this exercise, called Shaq Zadan, meaning spinning top,
44:24the Palavans spin around like whirling dervishes.
44:30They start off standing in a circle around the Zurkhani, with their backs to the wall.

49:09Iran, with its rich cultural heritage,

49:14The Iranians themselves are optimistic about the future.
49:21Varzee Palavani attaches great importance to chivalry,
49:24courtesy and courage.
49:25But there's a lot more to it than that.
49:31In fact, it's one of the few sports in which religion
49:34seems to have an important part to play.
49:38This ancestral sport has managed to adapt to the many different regimes
