00:00I've been keeping everybody back.
00:09We've taped it off with a healthy amount of distance.
00:15There's no obvious signs of trauma, but there's drag marks in the ditch,
00:18footprints, tire tracks.
00:23He's in the ditch.
00:26He's obviously dead.
00:28Here's the weird thing, he ain't got no shoes on.
00:30I want to know what killed him.
00:32Because you'd think he'd see a gunshot wound or blood or a stab wound or something.
00:36Seems like this dude was dead before he got here and they dumped him in the ditch.
00:43Every suspect accused of a crime has the right to remain silent.
00:47Many agree to be interrogated anyway.
00:50But they can stop the interview at any moment, making it a race against time.
00:57Justice hangs in the balance.
01:01We were all kind of getting ready to go home.
01:16And then the call came in.
01:19At that point in time, all we had was an individual basically lying on the side of the road, obviously deceased.
01:34This was a remote road, way out in the middle of nowhere.
01:37Somebody specifically purposefully had to come down this road and dump this body.
01:44The state of his body was in full rigor.
01:47He hadn't started decomposition.
01:49There were no bugs present on or around him.
01:52So it was fairly fresh.
01:54It was probably within 12 hours from the time he was killed.
01:59We started looking at social media and just immediately realized that this was not Nathaniel Jackson.
02:20This was his brother, Levante Jackson.
02:23One of our mutual friends called me.
02:29I was at work.
02:30And he told me that Levante was gone.
02:36And it was really just kind of like a shell shock moment.
02:40Like, I didn't know what to say.
02:43It feels like, you know, time kind of stopped.
02:52To a lot of people, Levante seemed like a typical 23-year-old guy, you know.
02:57But to everyone that knew him, he was fierce.
03:02Fierce friend, fierce brother.
03:06My first impression of Levante was,
03:08How can anyone get through a single day having that much confidence?
03:13It was a really infectious positivity.
03:20Levante is an athlete.
03:23Very quick, very strong.
03:26With football, if he had the ball in his hands and you found yourself in his path,
03:31chances are you were getting run over.
03:33I'd like people to remember Levante as a son, a brother, a friend, a father.
03:43He's got two daughters.
03:46A young man with everything ahead of him and everything to give to this world.
03:51Detective Simpson and I both kind of noticed this thin kind of red line that went across the front of his neck.
04:10And we didn't see any other trauma.
04:14We got thinking that, okay, this is probably a strangulation case.
04:21He's got sandy dirt on top of his right foot.
04:26Top of his left foot is clean.
04:29One of the biggest things we notice is we're in the middle of a dirt road,
04:33but there's no mud on his socks.
04:36They look pretty clean.
04:39That was a huge red flag for us, which made us think that maybe he was dumped here.
04:43It had rained that day, and the ground was soft,
04:52and there was obvious tire tracks leading up to where the body was dumped,
04:57and we could see that he was drugged and dropped on the side of the road.
05:02There's a pudding cup with fresh pudding on the ground. It's not deteriorated very much.
05:16The pudding dries out after a while.
05:19We didn't know if it was related or not related at the time, but we went ahead and seized it.
05:25Once we finished recovering Levante's body, our next step was to find out who he associates with.
05:40And what we did determine is that he had a girlfriend and the mother of his child, Chelsea Martin.
05:47Once we got her in, I felt really good that she was not involved in his death whatsoever.
06:09She wanted us to do everything in our power to be able to try to catch the people that killed him.
06:15Chelsea started telling us he had been not running with the greatest crowd of people, so to speak,
06:22including this female named Lydia Riggs, basically pointing out that Levante had last been seen with Lydia.
06:29Lydia had texted that herself, Wonder Bread, and David were all there when the murder took place.
06:54Lydia said she was there in Wonder's room when Levante died.
07:04Wonder Bread was a street name. We took these names, gave them to our crime analyst,
07:08and asked him to see if he could find out who these people really were.
07:24We learned that Zachary Whitcomb was a 19-year-old petty criminal.
07:29He had been in trouble for small stuff before.
07:33David Adair was a 26-year-old convicted felon with a history of violence.
07:39Lydia Riggs was the girlfriend of David Adair.
07:44So I had a team trying to locate Lydia, trying to locate David, and locate Zachary as well.
08:12Our confidential source told us once they realized that Levante was dead, the suspects all began to panic.
08:20The only person they knew they could persuade to help them get rid of the body was Mark Brannock.
08:27Mark kind of knew that I was investigating the death of Levante.
08:43He wanted to talk to me and kind of clear his name, I guess.
08:47We ended up meeting at a gas station not too far from the sheriff's office.
08:58Once he showed up, we didn't see his vehicle.
09:01That was a huge red flag, and I think it was even a bigger red flag that he didn't want to talk about it.
09:05Didn't want to say where it was at, didn't want to elaborate on how he got there.
09:09I asked him, you know, I was like, man, you okay with coming to the sheriff's office with me?
09:13Let's just talk about this.
09:14I feel like it'd be good for you to get this off your chest.
09:17So he eventually agreed and went to the sheriff's office with us.
09:21Let's have a seat.
09:35Can you have a drink or something?
09:38Yeah, that'd be awesome.
09:40Okay, give me one second.
09:41Anything.
09:42Give me one second.
09:48He was nervous.
09:50I was worried he was going to request an attorney right off the bat.
09:57I wanted to tippy-toe into that conversation before we start going down the incident itself.
10:05This is what it looks like.
10:10Sorry about that.
10:13Obviously, I definitely want to get your side of the story, right?
10:15Cool.
10:16But are you okay with talking to me?
10:18Yeah.
10:19Okay.
10:20Where is your car at now?
10:22Honestly, man, I don't know.
10:26I don't know.
10:27I just don't know what I can say.
10:28I'm worried that I'm going to get in trouble for something I didn't do.
10:31And honestly, man, to be honest, I don't care about that anymore.
10:33I'm just asking you, dude, where the car is at.
10:35Even though...
10:36I mean, okay, let me ask you this.
10:37If you're in my position, right, we meet up with you, and ironically, that car is not with you.
10:42Yeah, that's going to look good.
10:43Right.
10:44So...
10:45Because to me, it looks like you're trying to hide evidence.
10:46You're trying to hide evidence.
10:47I don't care.
10:48There are a lot of people who are not with you, and it's not with me.
10:51I don't know.
10:52Levante's funeral was held at a small church, and it honestly kind of felt like the whole
11:05town showed up.
11:06It was an incredible turnout of people that cared very deeply for Levante.
11:12Levante could definitely get along with anyone.
11:14I can't tell you how many times I would think that he had known someone like he had known
11:19him for years, but it would be his first time meeting them.
11:22He would go up and shake their hand or hug them, get them involved in the jokes or a pickup
11:26game of football or something.
11:28He loved people the same way, no matter you were related to him by blood.
11:33And how we all loved him, it's just unconditional love, you know?
11:38I just want to be able to have a ride when I got back, whenever you dropped me off.
12:04So where's the car?
12:04It's behind IDA.
12:05Go ahead.
12:06You look at it all you want, because I didn't hide anything.
12:09Okay.
12:09I'll be right back.
12:10After I got Mark's vehicle, we were able to identify his tires to tire impressions on the
12:38crime scene.
12:45In the back, we found that pudding cup, which we were able to relate to the pudding cup
12:51that we located at the crime scene.
12:53I didn't do anything wrong.
13:02All right, man.
13:04So here's what's going to happen.
13:05We're going to hold on to the car, because that was used in that incident.
13:09I understand.
13:09You understand that part?
13:10I understand completely.
13:11Let's just start from the beginning, and just kind of walk me through from the beginning
13:16and go from there.
13:18I'm always trying to help people, man.
13:19That's all I ever try to do.
13:21I mean that.
13:21Right.
13:21Like, from the bottom of my heart.
13:23That's all I ever try to do.
13:24Right.
13:25You can ask anybody.
13:27They called me and said, 911, we need help.
13:30We need help.
13:31We need to take us into town, you know?
13:33Who called you?
13:35It was Wonder Bread.
13:37Wonder Bread called you?
13:38I don't even know his real name.
13:38I had met Wonder Bread maybe two weeks before.
13:41One time, I had met David the day before.
13:45Okay.
13:45Maybe two days before at the most.
13:48And I knew Lydia was there, and I wanted to protect her, because I knew she didn't need
13:52to be around those people, man.
13:54And I knew it, and I didn't want her to get hurt.
13:56So what happened after you got there?
14:00I pulled in, and they told me to back up, and they were going to put clothes in the back,
14:04and they did.
14:04They put a bunch of clothes, and they put a big duffel bag and all this s***.
14:08Okay.
14:09So, they told you to come to that house?
14:11Okay.
14:12They tell you why?
14:13They did not tell me.
14:14They never gave you a reason to come?
14:16They never did.
14:16You never asked?
14:17I swear, no.
14:18Man, if they need help, I was just going to go help.
14:21I help people, like...
14:22Okay.
14:23Usually, if somebody says 911, it's because somebody's getting hurt.
14:26I get it.
14:26So I thought, they're going to get killed if I don't go up there.
14:28When they told you to back in, and they started loading stuff in your car, I mean, what
14:34was your thought process then?
14:35Keep my eyes forward so that they don't get mad at me.
14:38Um, don't ask questions.
14:40I mean, what do you think they were loading up?
14:42Clothes.
14:43I swear, I thought it was clothes.
14:46He's getting to a point where he's just, you know, bull****ing you.
14:48It sounds like a lot of shadiness coming from, you know, your buddies, and they're telling
14:52you to do these certain things, and you're just doing it.
14:55You're not questioning it.
14:55You're just doing it.
14:56But the bull**** can go for so long until it's time to talk about what actually happened.
15:02Lydia, Wonderbird, and David all got in your car.
15:05Yes.
15:06And who says where to go?
15:07I think it was David.
15:09We went straight down the road towards, you know, this...
15:11There's...
15:12I don't know the damn names of the roads, but we took a right outside of Wonderbird's
15:15house.
15:16Then we went out...
15:17But at no point they told you where they were going?
15:19No.
15:20I swear.
15:20No.
15:20They didn't...
15:21Until we passed a dirt road, did they even tell me that we were going to go down a dirt
15:26road?
15:27Okay.
15:27And until we were right there and said, hey, we're going to go for a walk.
15:31Stop the car.
15:32You know, they didn't tell me anything, man.
15:34And I swear to God, they got their stuff and they told me to go down, wait five minutes
15:38and come back up.
15:40And so I went down and I sat there with Lydia for a minute, just like calm and like saying,
15:45everything's going to be all right.
15:46Like, why are you crying?
15:47And she wouldn't tell me anything.
15:48So Lydia was crying in the car?
15:50Where were the other two?
15:51They were off with their bags.
15:54Okay.
15:54Like...
15:55So whenever you're talking with Lydia, what did she tell you?
16:00Nothing.
16:00She didn't tell me anything about this.
16:02She said, I'm scared.
16:03I'm scared.
16:03And I thought she meant, I'm scared of them.
16:07Like, I'm scared of David and Wonder Bread and what they're going to do to me.
16:10Like, I started getting scared, man.
16:11I was like, what the f***?
16:13Like, what did they do?
16:14What did they do?
16:15Like...
16:16And, you know, I'm just scared.
16:18I'm scared that I'm going to get in trouble for something.
16:20I didn't even know what happened.
16:22So did they tell you they would meet you at the bottom?
16:23Or how did they...
16:24No, they just said, just come back in five minutes to where they were at.
16:27Okay.
16:28And then they got back in the car?
16:29Yep.
16:31I'm letting him talk.
16:31But in the back of my mind, I'm thinking, this is a bunch of BS.
16:36He knew at that point what was in his car.
16:39I think he knew what they were doing.
16:42I wanted him to keep talking and venting.
16:45And that way, when I challenge him later, it's going to come out.
16:48I did not get out of the car at all.
16:50I swear.
16:51I've never seen him by something.
16:52I just want to go back, man.
16:53They had the music cranked.
16:55That means don't listen to them.
16:56Okay.
16:57Don't listen to what we're saying.
16:58So I just want to go back, man.
17:00Whenever all this happened, what day was that?
17:03Dude, I'm...
17:05Okay.
17:06So it's like, I can't really remember.
17:09You have your phone, honey?
17:11Yeah, but it's dead.
17:12Damn it.
17:14Well, let me see it.
17:15We can charge it.
17:16That's okay.
17:16It's not a good deal, dude.
17:20Okay.
17:20I'll tell you.
17:21Here.
17:22The best way this is going to go down, dude, is if you're going to transparent with me.
17:26Okay.
17:26Because I'm trying to be transparent with you.
17:28But right now, I'm getting a lot of bull whenever you're telling me that your phone's dead.
17:32It's just the phone dead thing.
17:36I was tired of his bull, I guess is the best way to say it.
17:40You know, I knew his phone wasn't dead from that point on.
17:43I was done with him venting.
17:44So let's f***ing, let's cut the bull, and why don't you be honest with me and tell me
17:49what happened.
17:51That's exactly what I'm doing.
17:52It's just, I just, I don't want you to go through all of my stuff because I've got so
17:56many people on here.
17:57You know, I know so many people.
17:58And I, like I said, I'm a nice guy.
18:00I don't want to incriminate anybody who doesn't need to be incriminated because they weren't
18:04even a part of anything.
18:05Like, this is just, like, drug, you know?
18:08I don't care about drug s***.
18:10That's not what I'm concerned about.
18:12Okay, cool.
18:13That's what I need to do.
18:14All right.
18:16Thank you for that.
18:17I'm going down through.
18:18I'm looking for it.
18:20Um, Wonder Bread.
18:21That's what we need to find.
18:22Is it Wonder Bread?
18:23Can I see it?
18:24Can you show me?
18:25Yeah.
18:25Wonder Bread.
18:26Let me see it real quick.
18:32Oh, man.
18:33Now, give me your phone now.
18:35Okay.
18:36So, let's start over.
18:38Well, I need my phone back.
18:39No, you're not getting your phone back.
18:41The phone is going to be seized from this point.
18:43Now I know what you're doing.
18:45You're trying to get me to confess something.
18:47I'm not getting you to confess anything.
18:48I want you to be honest with me because you're feeding me a lot of bulls***.
18:56The only way I can help you is if you are very transparent with me and you're honest
19:14with me, okay?
19:15When did you realize that there was a body in the back of your car?
19:21The next day.
19:23Like, I just, I knew it somehow.
19:26I just knew.
19:28Did Lydia tell you?
19:29Nobody told me, dude.
19:31Nobody's told me this.
19:32Okay.
19:33Nobody's going to straight out tell me that they committed a crime like that.
19:35So, whenever we talk to Wonder Bread, Lydia, and David, none of them are going to say that
19:42you knew nothing about any of that?
19:47If they do, they're lying, man.
19:49I didn't do anything wrong from the bottom of my heart.
19:51I swear to God.
19:53With Brandon, it got to a point where he just, he wanted to talk and bulls*** and just feed
20:00these lies.
20:02So, I think if I didn't put a stop to it, he would have just kept doing the same thing.
20:06All right, man.
20:08You're going to be arrested and you're going to be charged with abuse of a corpse.
20:12Abuse of a corpse?
20:12What's that?
20:13Yeah.
20:13It means you had the chance to call 911 and you failed to do that.
20:17I really didn't have the chance.
20:18You told me the next day you knew there was a body in the backyard.
20:20I get it, but the law is the law, man.
20:23I can't avoid that.
20:24Are you ready?
20:24All right.
20:25Yep.
20:25Go ahead and stand up for me, sir.
20:26Gotcha.
20:26Go ahead and stand up.
20:28Yes, sir.
20:28We had David Adair in the wind.
20:40We had Lydia Riggs in the wind and we had Zachary Whitcomb in the wind.
20:46These are suspects in a homicide and they're out free walking around.
20:50So, we've got to track these people down.
20:52Zachary was so groggy and tired.
21:21Probably coming down off of some type of drug.
21:24Zachary.
21:26So, I kind of wanted to see how far I could get and how big of a hole he would dig himself into.
21:32Let's just go back from the beginning, kind of just the facts of what happened, what you saw, what you know.
21:38David Adair told Levante to take Zachary's flag, which is his gang handkerchief.
22:00It's a sign of disrespect.
22:02Was Levante, like, straddled you on top of you, holding you down?
22:06Was he holding your arms down or was he holding your arms down?
22:08I was holding my arms.
22:10Okay.
22:11And then David hopped on and off.
22:16He just came around with a chokehold.
22:20And I started getting into panic and started squirming more, pushing us backwards off the bed.
22:27Okay.
22:28And then we all hit the floor.
22:29And that's when David started squeezing tighter and Levante was struggling more.
22:42What was Levante doing?
22:43Was he trying to pull his arm or anything?
22:44Yeah, he was kicking his feet, trying to make noise.
22:49So, I sat on his feet.
22:50And then Lydia jumped on, too, to help quiet his feet, because I was getting thrown around.
22:59We put a gag in his mouth so he couldn't scream.
23:04And Levante?
23:05Mm-hmm.
23:05Okay.
23:06And then?
23:09So, Levante went limp.
23:11Okay.
23:12And that's when we all started panicking, doing chest compressions.
23:17Okay.
23:17And after they stopped that, we put him sleeping back to him on the back porch, and we started
23:25making phone calls for a ride.
23:27Honestly, I would expect Zachary, at that point, to, you know, have some feelings about
23:32what they had done.
23:34But he was emotional-less and didn't have a lot of empathy for what had happened.
23:42You think David wanted to kill him?
23:43I think so.
23:44Did he ever tell you that?
23:45Mm-hmm.
23:46Levante.
23:47I've heard you false-claiming.
23:49According to Zachary, Levante was false-claiming, which means, you know, claiming to be in
23:55a gang that you're not in.
23:57I really didn't know at this point.
23:59But it was possible that there was a price tag on Levante's head for that.
24:06I always know this happened.
24:08No, man.
24:11No.
24:12No.
24:12Now, we needed to move forward and go search for David and to go search for Lydia.
24:30The way we look at it is, we're out to get justice for Levante, and we can't stop until
24:39we get these people arrested.
24:42This is priority number one.
24:43David, finally, he'd gone home to crash, and his mom called in to the sheriff's office.
25:13Because they had been to her house before.
25:16Our guys went in, secured David without incident.
25:22We took him to the Benton County Jail, and we put him in an interview room.
25:29Between David and Lydia, David was going to be my friend.
25:59It was more of a challenge.
26:00He has been through the system before, and there was a chance that he was going to shut
26:05us down in the beginning and not agree to talk.
26:07So we felt Lydia would be the best next target to interview.
26:10All right.
26:10Well, where would you like to start at?
26:15What's the easiest place for you to...
26:17Well, obviously, I can tell you everything that happened because it won't stop playing
26:20in my head.
26:21Yeah.
26:23Yeah, that's tough.
26:24I know.
26:25I didn't even realize that there was anything wrong.
26:30They were all acting fine.
26:32Like, they were best friends.
26:35And then, like, David said something to me back, and him and Levante started wrestling
26:41around.
26:42And I was like, okay, it's just boys being boys.
26:44And then David jumped into it, too.
26:49And it just...
26:50It kept being worse.
26:57I'm sorry.
26:58That's okay.
26:58There's tissues there if you need a tissue.
27:00But...
27:00After they put Levante on the floor, he started choking him out.
27:05And they kept saying, stop, stop, stop.
27:08And trying to get them both stopped.
27:10And they were like...
27:11Did you want to do what David asked him to do?
27:14What did he...
27:15What did he tie his hands and feet with?
27:18Well, they felt...
27:19He just tied his hands and feet, and they all tied him.
27:24And David just kept choking him.
27:28No.
27:28I wasn't big enough to get him to stop.
27:32Levante kept telling him to stop.
27:38And then Levante quit moving.
27:40And I was...
27:41I tried to check his pulse.
27:42He was really weak.
27:44I couldn't find my phone.
27:47Anyway...
27:51And David untied him, and I tried to get Levante's CPR.
27:55And it just wouldn't work.
27:58Lydia told us pretty much the same thing that Zachary did, except she played the victim.
28:04She acted like she was upset, like she was no part of it.
28:08She didn't look at us a lot whenever she would answer our questions.
28:12Like she would kind of hide by that emotion.
28:15And it seemed like she always tried to minimize her involvement.
28:17But, according to Zachary, Lydia held his feet down, she helped, and her part was just as big as Zachary's.
28:26Now it's time to put on a little bit of pressure and see what happens.
28:30I've been doing this 18 years, which isn't forever, but it's just quite a bit of time.
28:40And anybody I have ever talked to who was a witness to something, they're always...
28:44It's just human nature to kind of minimize their involvement a little bit, to some degree.
28:49And so, usually, you know, an honest person is going to be about, you know, 85% to 90%, you know, honest.
28:56And so I just kind of wrote out a skill here from 0% to 100% just to kind of see where you think you're at
29:02with what you have told us here today.
29:04If you would write down where you think you're at.
29:09That's all I'm saying.
29:10I didn't think I did.
29:13Okay.
29:13But, you see, maybe, like, right there.
29:19Okay.
29:19So pretty good.
29:2190, 85?
29:22I told you if I could.
29:24So, you showed here that you might be off by about 5% to 10%.
29:29What if I told you Wonder Bread's story wasn't quite the same as yours,
29:33that you were a little more involved?
29:36What?
29:41Damn, man.
29:44He said I was more involved.
29:46He did.
29:49He's a liar.
29:51Okay.
29:51F*** him.
29:53Well, listen, we just want to get to the truth.
29:55You know, if you, for a split second, you decided to help her.
29:59I tried to untie you.
30:01Okay.
30:02A lot.
30:02And I just got pushed off the way.
30:04I tried to get him off.
30:05I did everything I could to stop it.
30:09I don't want to help that.
30:10Okay.
30:11That was cruel.
30:12Just for a second.
30:13Did you help hold his legs down?
30:15No.
30:15When he was kicking?
30:16No.
30:17Did you jump on and help?
30:18No.
30:19You did not.
30:19I didn't have anything to do with that.
30:28But you're asking like you're crying right now, but you're not really crying.
30:32Those are crocodile tears.
30:33I can't cry no more.
30:35I actually cried out today.
30:39I've been crying since yesterday all day.
30:41Just be completely honest with us.
30:44I am.
30:45Just tell us the last little 5% that you haven't told us about.
30:50Sometimes when we talk to people like this, they like to give us a version of the truth.
31:10And I feel like you're giving us a version of the truth, but you're not giving us the complete truth.
31:21We want to understand, I promise you.
31:22I didn't help with anything.
31:23We know you helped with his legs.
31:26No, I didn't.
31:28We know what happened.
31:31We just need to hear.
31:33I didn't help you hold his legs down.
31:36Did you sit on?
31:37I put my knee on him when I was trying to get David off.
31:42That's what I did.
31:43Okay, so you held his leg down.
31:45Maybe not with your hands.
31:47Not on purpose.
31:50Is it something you did and you just regretted it?
31:59I tried going onto the side of David and grabbing him.
32:02He said, hold down his leg.
32:08Is that what happened?
32:10You just put your weight on his legs to make him keep his legs down?
32:14On one.
32:15On one of his legs?
32:16I was scared that they would hurt me if I didn't do what he said.
32:21Right.
32:21And I get that.
32:23But I didn't want to help but I can't help you.
32:26You're almost there.
32:28You've come a little bit further into the truth.
32:32But I really didn't help.
32:35I think this is going to be looked at in two different ways.
32:38Okay?
32:38And I'm going to be honest with you.
32:39I think it's going to be looked at one way where it's going to be you, David, and Wonder Bread
32:46planned this and killed this kid.
32:50Okay?
32:50Or I think it's going to be looked at as, you know nothing about this, but you're definitely
32:57involved in it.
32:59I'm involved.
32:59Okay?
33:00Yeah.
33:01But I'm scared.
33:02You helped hold his legs down while David choked him out.
33:07But it's one or the other.
33:08So are you going to be the monster?
33:10And did you guys plan this out?
33:12They didn't help on purpose.
33:14Bottom line, okay, you had an opportunity to not sit on his legs and you had an opportunity
33:21to get this guy help and you did not do that.
33:24I tried.
33:25You didn't scream.
33:26You never called 911.
33:28You never called the cops.
33:29You helped kill this guy.
33:31No, I did not.
33:33You sat on his legs.
33:35I did not help.
33:36You may have not choked him and did what David did, but in the process of David
33:44choking him, you helped by sitting on his legs and not letting it move his body.
33:49For like two, three minutes.
33:51How long do you think it takes for somebody to be choked out?
33:55I don't know.
33:56It took like...
33:57It takes less than two to three minutes.
33:58I can tell you that.
33:59Ultimately, I think all of you contributed to the death of Levante.
34:13I think we can all agree on that.
34:14I think it's all right.
34:16Give us a couple minutes, okay?
34:26When she makes a comment of her sitting on this guy's legs, that sealed the deal for me.
34:30I think everything kind of crumbled on her at that point.
34:34It was a little bit of a victory getting to that point for her to finally be honest with
34:38herself, and we got what we needed.
34:41We got the truth.
34:54I'm completely out of bulls**t.
34:57This interview with David, this isn't his first rodeo.
35:05He's been in and out of prison for many years.
35:07He's an alpha dog, so he was going to be the toughest one.
35:11We weren't sure going in if he was actually going to talk to us.
35:19All right, David.
35:20Sorry, it took a little bit.
35:21Yeah.
35:23Get a nap?
35:25Just been sitting there.
35:26Sitting there.
35:28Hello.
35:29Again, I'm Detective Jeff Simpson.
35:31I'm working here from the Manhattan Sheriff's Office.
35:33This is Detective Connor.
35:37Here's what we do.
35:38We ask you questions.
35:40Where are you going to get on your side of this story?
35:43You know, we know a little bit about what's going on already.
35:46We've got a pretty good idea.
35:47We just want to hear it from your point of view, how everything went down.
35:51So, you know, that's how it goes.
35:54And you can stop at any time.
35:55You get to a point where you don't want to talk.
35:58You stop.
35:58That's your choice.
36:00I didn't know Levante had passed.
36:04You know what I'm saying?
36:06I didn't even know Levante was dead.
36:09Yeah.
36:09We already know.
36:10We know what happened.
36:13I don't know what happened.
36:15Yes, you do.
36:18I'm being dead-ass telling you what happened.
36:21This is what happened Saturday when I seen Levante.
36:23I was hanging out with Zach.
36:26We were all hanging out, chilling.
36:27We were all getting high.
36:28I wanted to leave.
36:29When I left Zach's, it was around 1, 2 in the morning, early a.m.
36:36Early a.m. Sunday morning.
36:37You just conveniently removed yourself from the exact time Levante was killed.
36:42If you're going to talk truth, man, you better be able to back it up because you can't right now.
36:47Was it an accident?
36:49Maybe you guys were goofing off and you were high, got out of hand, panicked.
36:54We can understand that, man, but just straight up, I wasn't there.
36:58I happened to disappear at this exact time.
37:00Thanks, my friend.
37:20I love you're a monster.
37:21You're going to deny it like that.
37:23No.
37:23Come on.
37:24No, I'm not a monster.
37:24No, I'm not a monster.
37:25Okay.
37:26Then it was an accident.
37:28Tell us the truth.
37:34Did you wake up that morning and plan to go out there and murder Levante?
37:38Or were you guys messing around high and something bad happened?
37:42I mean...
37:43Levante was my friend, dude.
37:44Levante was my friend, bro.
37:45That's why we think it might have been an accident or be out of hand.
37:49That's what we think.
37:49They didn't get out of hand with me and Levante.
37:51Me and Levante were close, man.
37:53I know.
37:54I believe you.
37:55I believe that part.
37:56I can see the emotion.
37:57But you've got to be honest with us so we know what happened.
38:01You want to get it off your chest.
38:02I can see it.
38:03Look, man.
38:03Live.
38:04Look at your site, bro.
38:05Look.
38:06Did it...
38:07Was it an accident?
38:10Did you go too far?
38:13Come on.
38:13What are you talking?
38:17He was, like, quivering and his eyes were getting really red.
38:21So I just grabbed my chair and moved it in on him at that point to box him in and, you know,
38:28make contact with him.
38:29That's kind of when we went after him.
38:31Was it an accident?
38:34Did you go too far?
38:38You can hear yourself.
38:39Sorry.
38:39So listen to this.
38:42Accident or did you play in this?
38:44You need to tell us.
38:46So what put him down?
38:52Me, Didi, and Zach.
38:53We were in the bedroom.
38:56We were all...
38:57We were all doing a bump.
39:04Zach, I'm a one-tay.
39:06We're at the rest of the room.
39:12And...
39:13I don't know what the f*** Zach wanted to do.
39:15Right.
39:19But...
39:19He had to tie him up.
39:22And s***.
39:23But at some point you jumped in.
39:24I was trying to bring him up.
39:26Okay.
39:27I grabbed the bonte.
39:29Mm-hmm.
39:31And we fell on the floor.
39:32We're falling on the floor.
39:34All right.
39:34Do you remember what Lydia was doing?
39:36She was sitting on the bed and then she jumped on him with us.
39:39Mm-hmm.
39:42All right.
39:43I was holding him.
39:44And...
39:46Trying to break them two apart.
39:48Mm-hmm.
39:51And...
39:52I mean...
39:53I mean...
39:54You know, I choked out.
39:56Whatever the f***.
39:57Yeah.
39:58So you went left?
39:59Yeah.
40:00You choked him up.
40:01I was...
40:01I choked him up.
40:02I choked him up.
40:04I had no intentions on killing nobody.
40:08I didn't...
40:08I feel in my heart I didn't kill anybody.
40:11Mm-hmm.
40:13This is a f***ed up situation.
40:15This is a f***ed.
40:15What a f***ed.
40:16Levante died, bro.
40:18He's gone.
40:21Yeah.
40:21He's dead.
40:28This poor mom.
40:31His brother's his family.
40:33Yeah.
40:33He doesn't himself.
40:34Yeah.
40:36It's f***ed up.
40:38His story had fallen apart.
40:40And I don't think the crime was for Levante.
40:42I think it was, they got me.
40:45It's for David.
40:46We'll be right back in just a minute.
40:47We had overwhelming evidence and confessions.
41:04The confessions are one thing, but also we were able to back it up with evidence.
41:08Having the car, the tire tread, the snack pack pudding cup, in and outside the car.
41:14This made for a very tight case, and everything kind of just came together.
41:19David Adair pled guilty to second-degree murder and received 30 years in prison.
41:46Lydia Riggs pled guilty to second-degree murder and received 15 years in prison.
41:54Zachary Whitcomb pled guilty to second-degree murder and got 20 years in prison.
42:00And Mark Brandon pled guilty to evidence tampering, abuse of a corpse, and hindering apprehension,
42:07and received 20 years in prison.
42:08Their actions led to Levante's death.
42:14They stuffed him in a sleeping bag, and they disposed of him like a piece of trash.
42:19They took a life that they didn't need to.
42:23They're all exactly where they need to be, in prison.
42:26We got justice for Levante's family.
42:29The worst thing we can do when we lose someone is not talk about them.
42:38It's how you keep people that you love with you.
42:42I've never met someone that loved as hard as he loved.
42:46If he loved you, he didn't love you halfway.
42:48He loved you all the way.
42:49I miss everything about him.
42:58I was going to say I miss the good and the bad, but I can't really remember any bad.
43:02I miss everything about him.
