Hong Kong, which means “fragrant harbor,” is a former British colony that has taken on the character of a London-style city in Asia. Home to over 7 million people, this jewel of the East is the leading port in Asia. Beyond being an important economic hub in the world, Hong Kong also holds a significant cultural place thanks to its film industry, literature, and martial arts.
Wing Chun is a traditional Chinese martial art originating from southern China. It began spreading worldwide in the 20th century, largely due to the popularity of actor Bruce Lee, and one of its masters was the famous Yip Man. The curiosity inspired by this city that never sleeps has now largely shifted toward tourism, highlighting its rich cultural heritage.

05:32All techniques used in combat are the direct result of what is called forms, also called Tao.
05:38Six forms exist today.
05:41The first form is the Siu Lim Tao or Siu Nim Tao and is the basis of the system.
05:47Siu refers to small, efficient, compact and economical.
05:52Nim means immersion in the study of a subject and Tao refers to the head.

08:20Our master, Ip, came from China in 1949.
08:44Here, we have five generations of masters.
08:50I started with English boxing, and was also interested in martial arts.
08:58I saw one of master Ip's training sessions, and it was there that I discovered Winchung, and that's where it all began.

09:38Wandering the modern buildings of the city, there is a night market that is popular with the Chinese.
09:43In the aisles you can find vegetables, meat, fish and local specialties.
10:13The public transport system is quite developed in Hong Kong.
10:35The city centre has a practical and efficient system of tramways, taxis, ferries, buses and subways.
10:42From the north coast on the island of Hong Kong, one can see the emblematic bustling streets and skyscrapers.
11:00The Hong Kong observation wheel, a 60 metres high ferris wheel, offers an incredible view of the bay and downtown.
11:24Tsingshan Monastery is emblematic because it is here that part of the film Enter the Dragon was shot with Bruce Lee.

11:50In Hong Kong, 50% of the population is atheist, 21% are Buddhist and 14% Taoist.
12:04Located in Castle Peak, Tsingshan Monastery is one of the three oldest temples in Hong Kong.
12:22Dating from 1464, it includes three main groups of buildings.
12:32You can discover the mysterious forest followers, the ceremonial arch, prayer rooms and dormitories.
12:50Incense has always been part of rituals in Hong Kong, as elsewhere in China, whether in Buddhist, Confucian and Taoist temples.
13:14The statues represented here are Tai Sui, the weather gods. There is one for each day of the month.
13:42Different deities are represented in the temple for those coming together in front of them.

14:44Nyangping 360 is the cable car, which after a 25-minute ride from Tengcheng, will take
15:05you to the island of Lantau.
15:07Inside the cabin crystal, the glass section offers a breathtaking view of the contrasting
15:12landscapes that pass under your eyes and under your feet.
15:16The arrival point is the heart of the village of Nyangping, a cultural landmark spanning 1.5 hectares.
15:23Once there, you can see the statue of Tiantan Buddha, commonly called the Great Buddha.
15:29Installed in 1993, it is 34 meters high.
15:33It faces the north to watch over all the Chinese people.
15:56In Hong Kong, one lives with the head in the clouds.
16:00Year after year, this world champion of skyscrapers continues to grow.
16:13Perpetually stretching the land from the sea and the mountains, it constantly adds new
16:17towers to the 1,000 square kilometers of land for a population of 7 million inhabitants.

16:55There is no age for practicing Winchung.
17:21All generations are represented in the classes.
17:24This discipline aims to teach the art of defense, but also self-confidence, concentration,
17:31precision, balance and many other useful qualities at all times of life.
17:44Another form of Winchung includes the Dragon Pole.
17:50The Dragon Pole is a lot of fun.

18:02The Dragon Pole is a lot of fun.
18:08I believe the interest in Winchung is growing day by day because more people are aware of our martial art.
18:20Winchung can be explained scientifically to its practitioners.
18:26It is easy for them to understand principles and basis for Winchung.

19:16And everyone knows what없이 there kids are in this space.
19:18That's a lot.
19:20And where are the Bears going into this space?
19:52In the past, students under 13 years of age were not allowed to train because their bodies were not yet fully developed.
20:15Today, that has changed. Children are growing differently.
20:25Now, even students at 10 years of age are signed up in martial arts classes by their parents.
20:40Thanks to their age, they learn differently. Today, every movement can be explained.
20:55In the past, only endless repetition was done without any explanation.
21:05No matter your body type, you can practice.
21:13We used to say that if we taught our art to strangers, they could defeat us because they had a greater physique than us.
21:35Winchung is part of the martial art that uses wall punching bags for practice in order to toughen up the fingers.
21:47The wooden dummy form includes 108 techniques, or up to 116, according to the schools.
21:59These differences in numbers do not affect the structure of the shape.
22:15They are more due to a different way of counting exercises than to an important structural difference.
22:21But since Master Yip Man, also a teacher of Bruce Lee, has taught Winchung,
22:26many conflicts have appeared within schools about who holds the original form.
22:45Wooden dummy exercises have evolved over the centuries and has gone from 280 exercises to 108 or 116.
22:54If the wooden dummy is not symmetrical from left to right, it is Master Yip Man, who modifies the form in order to include variance
23:02and eliminating the left-right-left repetitions.
23:07The long pole measures 2,70 meters, but for practical reasons it is taught in its short form of 2 meters.
23:13The form is quite simple to learn. Quick and direct, it allows working the wrists and still remains difficult to use.

23:29The Mixtryl Boats
23:47The mythical boats of the Star Ferry have been the faithful link between Hong Kong Island
23:58and Kowloon since 1888.
24:00Today, the two shores of Victoria Bay are connected by a system of road and rail infrastructure.
24:06Ten million people continue to use Star Ferry every year.
24:11If many tourists come from abroad to see one of the most beautiful bays in the world, Hongkongese
24:16use it much more for the affection they hold for it rather than for what they could carry.
24:21Even after a century of service, the Star Ferry is still a reliable and efficient means of transport.
24:27National Geographic has even ranked Star Ferry in its top 50 destinations to go at least once in a lifetime.
24:46The island of Cheungchao boasts 23,000 inhabitants living on 2.45 square kilometers.
24:56To the west of the island are the harbor docks lined with seafood restaurants.
24:59There lots and resilient boats.
25:11These crews use skyscrapers'
26:00The narrow streets, often lined with two-story tall houses, are so narrow that here you can only travel by bicycle or on foot.
26:09The only vehicles with four wheels that can be seen are adapted to the needs of police and firefighters.
26:16For some time now, tourism has become the dominant activity.
26:21Traditional Chinese culture is present, and there are also small restaurants and beaches for swimming.
26:29The Temple of Pak Tai is an essential stopover of the island.
26:45Built in 1783, it is one of the oldest in Hong Kong.
26:50It is dedicated to a Taoist god of the sea, the supreme emperor of the dark heaven.
26:55You will see the statues of these two legendary generals who see and hear everything.
26:59The elongated dragons adorn its roof, while the four pairs of stone dragons in the courtyard keep guard.
27:11To the east of the island is the beach of Tung Wan.
27:22Weather permitting, it is very popular with windsurfers.
27:24Of course.
28:13It is possible to travel to Macau by land, sea, or air, but the direct and fashionable
28:20way in recent years is the helicopter.
28:35Macau is located just south of Hong Kong.
28:38This territory with an area of less than 30 square kilometers was colonized by the Portuguese
28:42when they served as intermediaries between China and Japan in the 16th century.
28:48Nowadays, Macau is known worldwide for its casinos, whose incomes are often higher than
28:53those of Las Vegas.
28:55Here, it is a small fraction of Europe that lives within China.
28:58So, like Las Vegas, casinos are growing almost everywhere.
29:04Like Las Vegas, casinos are growing almost everywhere on the island.
29:30The gigantism and glitz are the order of the day.
29:33It is impossible to pass by without seeing them, as they are concentrated on a tiny strip
29:38of land, just 1.2 kilometers.
29:53The chi sao, which could be translated as tight arms or hands, is an exercise carried out with
29:58a partner that must allow the student to react in a tactile manner.
30:02In close combat, your ability to see a punch and react by reflex is greatly diminished, and
30:08it is at this point that the skills developed by the chi sao take on their full meaning.
30:14The student develops true sensory reflexes.
30:16At a later stage, the chi sao is also practiced blindfolded.
30:32Once tactile sensibility is developed, the student must be able to detect any change in the position
30:54of the opponent's body or angles of attack.
30:57With time and training, the body as a whole acquires the ability to react instantly, in a relaxed
31:02manner, at the slightest pressure.

31:32Wing Chun comes from the south of Shaolin and it's one of the simplest and most efficient martial arts.
31:48I was often ill as a child.
31:52I was interested in many different sports, but I never thought I would be able to practice them.
32:02So I turned to Wing Chun.
32:32With the Qi Sao, one learns to intercept the opponent's arms, deflect his strength and hit him simultaneously.
32:50The exercise is done with a constant forward force to stick to the opponent's arms.
32:54This force remains relaxed to feel the movements of it.
32:58While Wing Chun specializes in arm techniques, it also means that you should be effective with your legs.
33:08When Wing Chun specializes in arm techniques, it also means that you should be effective with your legs.

33:49After a small kick, the use of the punching bag with fists resumes its place in the training.
34:19The distance is wide open and is visible.
34:34In the bringing of the punching bag, the use of the punching bag will guide the port.
34:43Victoria Bay is considered one of the three natural harbors in the world, and one of the
35:01three most beautiful night views in the world.
35:04Its name comes from Queen Victoria of Great Britain.
35:34Thank you, my God.
40:04In Chinese culture, jade has long been associated with longevity and good health, making this
40:09material a lucky charm.
40:11The Chinese sign designating jade is a contraction of the words beauty and purity.
40:17The quality and quantity of jade stones sold on hundreds of stalls are appreciated both
40:21by tourists and Hongkongese.
40:23In general, people prefer jade jewelry such as rings, bracelets, pendants, or earrings.
40:29However, it is not unusual to find amazing objects there, if the idea of being able to influence
40:36even just slightly one's luck is the ideal place to buy a lucky charm.
40:53I'm sitting around.
41:07Firelight.
41:08Let's see.
41:09Let's go.
42:07In the middle of the Hong Kong skyscrapers, there is a lush vegetation, which sometimes grows unexpectedly.
42:19Banyans are divided into two types, the ficus microcarva and the ficus bengalensis particularly present on the island.
43:07Banyans are divided into two types of trees.
43:37In Winchung, it is not the physical strength that is the most important.
43:44Indeed, in the case of an attack, one analyzes the situation visually and one reacts immediately by a counterattack.
43:51Then, it is by using the tactile sensations given by the aggressor such as blocking, grasping, pulling and others that it is possible to continue with a supple and adapted counterattack while remaining relaxed.
44:33requiring any physical fitness, Winchung is accessible at any age. The only necessary
44:39condition to discover it is to have the will to learn new things and to improve one's personal
44:44skills.
45:03The best way to learn new things is to learn new things.
45:33Here, you can learn Kung Fu, which my master teaches.
46:03Today, quite a few masters received this training and pass it along in the world.
46:19I want to promote our Wing Chun with other masters as a martial art that is good for
46:24your physical and mental health.
46:27Today, people don't take enough time for their health.
46:57Also, learn Kung Fu, which is your master's degree.
47:03You can use Kung Fu, which I will not be able to start with.
47:11But it is not even my first time.
47:14So you have to save me, then you will see the most, and you will see the most part.

48:43We learn how to fight during the training.
48:59In Winchung, we learn how to fight during the training, so we can't fight during the training.
49:07We can't fight during the training.
49:09Hong Kong is a symbol of success in Asia.
49:16Today, it is certainly its desire to cultivate a particular identity
49:21that allows Hong Kong to extend its notoriety throughout the world.
49:25Behind its heirs of the City of London, or the small New York of Asia,
49:29it has once again become a Chinese city.
49:33Notoriety can also be attributed thanks to the success of Bruce Lee,
49:38which made it possible to introduce to the world to Wing Chun,
49:41a martial art that almost everyone can recognize by its gestures,
49:45without even knowing its name.
49:47The philosophy of Wing Chun allows everyone to practice and carry on its values.
49:51This is one of the reasons it will have long and beautiful years ahead.
