00:00But speaking of quarterbacks, you know, now is the time.
00:02We hit November.
00:04Tress used to always say November's for contenders.
00:06That Heisman framework starts to kind of come into play.
00:10It starts to crystallize a little bit.
00:11We can see some of these potential candidates.
00:14When you start looking at this, who are some of the guys that you're seeing
00:18that could be in New York that there's potentially some value on?
00:22I don't know if there's much value left, to be honest with you.
00:25But I would have two wagers on two quarterbacks that I expect to be
00:28in the Heisman Trophy ceremony on that second Saturday in December.
00:32It's Ohio State's quarterback in Julian Sayan, the deserved frontrunner at this moment,
00:36and the guy right behind him who has been a favorite often in Indiana's Fernando Mendoza.
00:42Mendoza plays Penn State this week, the team that Sayan just lit up at home last week.
00:47Penn State's defense has been its biggest issue despite all that has happened,
00:51at least in terms of the off-the-field stuff with James Franklin being fired
00:55and Drew Allard being out of there in terms of actual football to have the talent
01:00that Penn State has defensively and be as bad as they have been under Jim Knowles.
01:04I know many in Columbus are grinning ear to ear right now.
01:08So Mendoza can put up the stats that Sayan did last week.
01:11Guys, I've been trying to highlight why Julian Sayan deserves more credit than he is getting.
01:15A lot of focus, and rightfully so, on the historic output from Ohio State's defense.
01:20But speaking of historic performances, it's what Sayan has been doing.
01:23There are four games this year in FBS college football where a quarterback is thrown for at least 300 yards,
01:29four passing touchdowns with three incompletions or fewer.
01:32Only four times this year, Julian Sayan has half of those four games.
01:36He has two of those four games against Grambling and then last week in the shoe against Penn State.
01:41He put up a historic performance against Wisconsin, the likes we have not seen in a very long time as well.
01:46Julian Sayan is excelling in this offense for Ohio State and is deserving of that Heisman Trophy favorite price.
01:52I expect him in New York City as a finalist, and one of the good things for both Mendoza and Sayan,
01:57their teams are probably going to play in the Big Ten championship game.
02:00They are probably going to be top five by the time we get those final CFP rankings.
02:04Their teams nationally will stay in the conversation.
02:06Thus, they will at the quarterback position in the Heisman race as well.
02:09What you're picking, Ohio State's obviously up there, Indiana.
02:11How are you viewing this?
02:13Because I think so many times people are putting all the emphasis on the ratings
02:16or where they're going in the college football playoff.
02:18There's still a lot of ball left.
02:20You have had some teams in the top that have differentiated themselves by the consistency
02:25and with the play.
02:26What's the best value that you think outs – I'm not talking about who's going to win it,
02:32but what do you think is a great value?
02:33Schlegs, it's such a beautiful time in college football, if you ask me,
02:36because of teams putting together historic starts and records to a season
02:40and also the parity that we are seeing.
02:42This is what we hope for on the positive side of the NIL era,
02:45that teams with investment in deep pockets that really cared about their program,
02:49not just the premier powerhouses, could excel in this sport.
02:52We're seeing that.
02:53But at the end of the day, it's still college football,
02:55where there is a line of margin between true national championship winning teams
02:59and even teams in the top 10 that reach the college football playoff.
03:03There is a team in there at the 11-to-1 number.
03:05In fact, two teams, I think, at the 11-to-1 number,
03:07that if you were going to get down on a ticket right here right now, I would.
03:11It's Notre Dame at 11-to-1, who played in a national championship game last year
03:15despite struggling early, the loss to Northern Illinois.
03:18And what Notre Dame has replicated in 2025 as compared to 2024 is a very similar stance,
03:24where they took their lumps early and then dominated teams.
03:27I know they struggled against BC and they've got to figure out the place kicker issues,
03:30but then dominated teams throughout the remainder of the regular season.
