00:00Coach, the 2025 season is in the books.
00:03The Indiana Hoosiers complete a perfect season.
00:07They win the game against the Miami Hurricanes on Monday night, 27-21.
00:13They don't get the cover as basically a 7.5-point favorite,
00:17but the game does go through the total of 46.5.
00:21Give me your thoughts about what transpired on Monday night
00:24and the season put in by Indiana and their head coach, Kurt Cignetti.
00:28Well, I mean, an amazing year ended with a victory and an undefeated season.
00:33It's so hard to win every game in college football.
00:37You can go your whole career 20, 30 years and have one or two.
00:41It just doesn't happen very often for Kurt to do it in his first,
00:45second year at Indiana to a team that was one of the worst teams in college,
00:50the worst team in college football.
00:51Great year, but it was a great game.
00:53I think Miami, they tried to do the things they had to do to win,
00:57and pressure on the quarterback, run the football.
01:00They just didn't count on a block punt.
01:03They didn't count a 50-yard field goal being missed,
01:06or they'd maybe win the game.
01:08But the bottom line was Indiana was a little better.
01:11Almost every statistic, they were a little bit better.
01:14But I think that quarterback Mendoza came through as the gamer.
01:19He's the guy that at the end of the game, he led him to touchdown at the end of the game,
01:23a great run for a touchdown.
01:26Beck on a first and 10 with 48 seconds left, you don't force the ball.
01:30He throws a pick on first and 10 with 48 seconds left, a chance to win the game.
01:35He blinked.
01:36I guess he blinked.
01:37But basically, Miami had everything in line, pressure the quarterback, run the football the best they could.
01:43But Indiana just, you know, they blocked eight punts the last two.
01:46It wasn't like that was an unexpected thing.
01:49That was just another blocked punt and another reason they're so well coached up and won like they did at Indiana.
01:56Indiana had the best turnover margin in college football entering that matchup.
02:01They were plus 21.
02:03Miami entered that battle right in the area of about plus 11.
02:07They needed to win the turnover battle.
02:09Not only that, they needed to win on third-down conversions.
02:13Indiana not only had the best turnover margin,
02:15they also had the best third-down offense in college football converting 56% of their third-down opportunities.
02:23They had the better quarterback.
02:24That definitely solidified himself, at least for now, as the number one overall pick in April's draft,
02:32most likely going to Las Vegas.
02:34But Fernando Mendoza lived up to the hype.
02:37Maybe not a stellar effort over 200 yards, but he got the rushing touchdown.
02:42He put his team in a position, didn't really turn the football over.
02:46And that's the main reason why Indiana did solidify the six-point win.
02:50I think it's intriguing, Coach.
02:52I read the article that Indiana didn't fumble the football, I believe, since week number one,
02:59which was like 1,047 snaps, I mean, that just goes to show you the attention to detail by Cignetti, by the staff.
03:08I mean, players are young, right?
03:11Whether they be 22, 23, 18 years old, I mean, to not lose a fumble since week number one
03:18is just an amazing statistic to play out throughout the regular season.
03:23Joe, it's another instance of a team that's well-coached.
03:28Fumbling, it's coached.
03:29How to hold the football, how to secure the football, how to cover it, the five points of pressure,
03:34don't hold it away from your body, cover it up when you get hit.
03:37All those things are coaching.
03:40You know, you can't really determine.
03:41Once the ball is fumbled, it's almost luck who recovers it.
03:45But by not fumbling, that's coached.
03:47In Indiana, that was another case of doing the things that you have to do to win,
03:52just like blocking that punt.
03:53That wasn't a special punt rush.
03:56That was their normal punt rush.
03:57A guy going above and beyond, they had done it eight times the last two years.
04:02Those are the things that make a difference.
04:03In a football game like this, those are the difference in the football game.
