An Ontario woman who recently lost her husband and was diagnosed with cancer is now facing another tough battle.

Her insurance company, Definity Financial, is refusing to cover damage to a part of her property, which she says was caused by a wind storm.

And now, they’re also threatening to pull her insurance entirely.

Global’s Sean O’Shea has more in this Consumer SOS.

00:00For Laura Marie Cameron, the effects of a windstorm on her farm in July persist.
00:04And I look out and saw that the beam had come down in the barn.
00:09A barn more than a century old. A structure, she says, she paid contractors to keep in shape.
00:14Beans that were starting to decay, cut out, replaced with good, solid beans.
00:20But Cameron says that storm in July caused serious damage that can be seen today.
00:24It was the wind damage that did it.
00:27Her insurance company, DFINITY Financial Corporation, doesn't agree and is not making repairs.
00:32They are abandoning me.
00:36DFINITY informed Cameron's broker they're discontinuing coverage for her house and the barn effective Saturday.
00:42They were not only going to not pay out on the claim, they were also going to terminate my policy.
00:48After Cameron called Global News, she got a short reprieve.
00:51Once I mentioned your name, that changed the game a little bit.
00:54DFINITY will insure her for another two weeks and provided she tears down the barn at her own expense, they'll continue to insure her.
01:01DFINITY told us, our business is centered on supporting customers when they need us most.
01:05We understand, they say, that experiencing a loss can be deeply stressful and that's when our commitment to delivering on our promise truly matters.
01:13Adding, it's so important for property owners to understand their coverage and take proactive steps to keep their property in good condition.
01:20Cameron's trying to sell the property after living here more than 20 years.
01:22I'm going to miss it.
01:25But she can't sell with the barn repairs outstanding.
01:28This insurance issue is coming at a difficult time in her life.
01:32Diagnosed with breast cancer, lost my husband to mental illness.
01:36He took his own life.
01:38But to a customer who's been paying close to $1,000 a month for coverage, termination feels wrong.
01:43I'd like them to do the right thing.
01:46Sean O'Shea, Global News, New Tecumseh.
01:48Honestly, I think she actually had less care of.
01:49I think we've got 10 to 100 of them.
01:51So, I think we need to reimb Toy dieses, that's fair if any of our family members to get up.
01:53We need to go on, so I think we still are going to if the supernatural is still moving with us.
01:54So, someone wants to continue to like a storyline to the right thing and go on a way on.
01:56Just kidding.
01:58I think we're going to choose how the material works perfectly.
01:59We can really get rid of ways to be better for someله.
02:01As well, it's really exciting when we're not able to get rid of it.
02:05Hello, everyone can't do this.
02:07I mean, we'll be working towards everyone.
02:09We'll be same groupness.
02:10And we'll be glad to study could fine lines that we're willing to go on as well.
