00:00Just before 8pm last night, a young child was in the vicinity of the railway crossing at Burrumbar
00:06and was struck by an unladen freight train.
00:10And the circumstances are still under investigation but what I can say is this, it's an absolute tragedy
00:16and the small community of Burrumbar and the emergency services personnel that attended
00:22were going to be wrapping our support around those people, the family and everyone who attended.
00:27The train driver was unaware that an incident even happened so when the driver was made aware by ARTC
00:33he had to stop the train that was some 20 kilometres away.
00:36There is no suggestion that any charges will be laid.
00:39I want to highlight that this is nothing but an absolute tragedy and that our heartfelt condolences goes out to the family.
00:48This will have a broad impact on the community, it really will.
