Tamworth Region Mayor Russell Webb shares an update on the next stage of the Skywalk project, as construction progresses.
Transcript
00:00This has been a project that's been put together by council and community. It's
00:11been developed and put together by a company called Forge and they're doing a
00:14fantastic job here and it's really good to be here today and see the work
00:19that's actually happening and progressing. We can actually see what this is going
00:23to look like to a degree into the future as it gets completed. So whilst it's one
00:27of our larger projects today, we're excited by the challenge and the scale
00:32that this project brings. So and just some fun facts along the way, once
00:38completed the project itself, the walkway, will run for 1.5 kilometres or 2,500
00:44steps. I'm sure someone's going to test me on that. And also in elevation, so from
00:48top to toe, it's 120 metres in height. Now that's the equivalent of a 40 level
00:53residential tower. I'm proud to say that we have 100% contractor involvement on
01:03this project so far. So both socially and economically, there's some great benefits
01:08for the region. It will be a safe access from the top of Brisbane Street to the
01:14to the lookout. A safe access because a lot of people and so many people walk up
01:19the lookout road now. And the walls on the side of the lookout road are starting to
01:22fail a little. The road is narrow and it is quite dangerous for walkers when
01:26there's a lot of traffic on that road.
01:28It'll cater for ladies with prams, young children, people of all abilities and those
01:36that are challenged with mobility, it'll cater for them in different areas so they'll
01:41be able to get to certain points to be able to in taking the views of the great
01:44city and the great plains behind the city.
