Transcript
00:00Morning Minister. Hello. How are you? Good, how are you?
00:04Really good. Great to be here.
00:10Let me tell you, we are in lockstep when it comes to giving kids
00:14an opportunity to get them out and away from the criminal justice system
00:18and on a pathway to success because everybody deserves an opportunity.
00:23Today we're announcing $23 million for targeted funding to do exactly that.
00:28We wanted to start local. I mean, I think probably some of the challenges that we've had in the past
00:33is that we've looked to hundreds of different towns all at the same time, many of them failed
00:38and then eventually people throw their hands up and say, you know what, it's just too hard.
00:42Today's announcement is really complementary to the work of police.
00:45We know that there's a number of youth, given the right opportunities,
00:49can be diverted from the criminal justice system.
00:52It's about offering hope for, in some cases, families and some communities where there's spiralling crime.
01:13Hey Annabelle, how are you doing?
01:14Hi Indy, sorry.
01:15Hey Indy, nice to meet you.
01:16I have to say this is a complex problem and it's a challenge that many governments have faced,
01:25not just in New South Wales, but right around the country.
01:28I don't think that there's a one size that fits all.
01:31If there was a silver bullet here, someone would have done it a long time ago.
