Practice Highlights | Formula 1 Sao Paulo Grand Prix 2025
Transkrip
00:00I like seeing that little dynamic, ooh, Tsunoda's off, he has gone off, hit the wall, is that at, that was, at Decido de Largo, yeah, where he's flat spotted his front left tyre by the looks of it as well, and right, let's have a quick look, down through the Senares as we go, onto the Curva de Sol, chance now, with a DRS, just to relax a little bit, pick your braking zone for the next turn,
00:30the left-hander at Decido de Largo, put on the brakes, and hope that the car sticks, which it didn't, after it got on the kerb, whoa, ooh, ooh, he's lucky that that was just the tyre that made contact with the corner of the tyre barrier there, and hasn't caused more damage, he just bought the belt, didn't he, on the outside side,
00:50on that exit kerb, which, oh, it has, it has damaged the front wing a bit more, I would be surprised if there isn't some suspension damage, or something a little bit more on that front, because that's a big hit,
01:00but, look, that could have been a lot worse, if he had to just clip the corner, to be honest,
01:05Yeah, this is bad news, right, you've only got one practice session, and for Yuki to drop it on the first run of the weekend on hard tyres, when you haven't got many opportunities to...
01:17He was two tenths ahead of Oscar, and that delta never really turned the other way, whereas, already here, Oscar's hit the ground running, that was Max Potmeier on the same curve,
01:29We saw Sonoda, Sonoda, obviously, spun off, but Max catching the slide, he didn't quite go as wide, I think...
01:38An FP1 session in sprint weekends, if we get a load of delays, as we did recently, they must have been listening to our commentary that day,
01:47when we had nothing on track, but we still only had an hour...
01:49Oh, man, what are these idiots doing, honestly?
01:52Oli Behrmann, Anz Lewis Hamilton, creating an extra chicane for Kimi Antonelli.
01:57Oscar's just coming in now, looks like he's managed to keep his, he's cooled down his brakes on the in-lap, so, yeah, watch out on the brake temperature later on in the day.
02:09And this is a track where braking energy level is the lowest of the season, 2.11 megajoules, Jamie Chadwick looks at me, they're going, how the heck did you make that?
02:19Working a little bit better, also with the softer compounds of tyres in other races that we've seen, not so much here, generally it's a lot better on the tyres,
02:27it allows for more opportunity on a strategy point of view to extend over rivals, I think, generally speaking, if you can get away with it,
02:35and you don't find yourself vulnerable, particularly down into this Turn 1 section, then they think it's the route...
02:40Higher downforce might be the way to go, if you think, maybe like Isaac Hadjar, he's going to have to do some overtaking...
02:46Whoa, as the McLaren nudges him a little further to the extremities than he wanted to go...
02:51He's test three blind or what? What was that?
02:53He certainly was unaware that there was a fast approaching racing bulls coming up behind him, this is Oscar's teammate Lando Norris,
03:02we're on board with now, that's the corner Charles Leclerc went off at, on a formation lap, a few years ago.
03:09He charged into Ferradura the...
03:10Tell me why we have to go back to harder compound tyres for this race, when we're trying to promote a two-stop strategy.
03:18Um, makes absolutely no sense to me.
03:21I don't get it.
03:22And, I have to be honest, I asked three engineers from three different teams, if they had any logic or theory,
03:30all of whom replied with similar answers around, it's either a bit of a lottery, or lucky dip, or we're not entirely sure of the logic here, so...
03:39Yeah, no idea.
03:40And you reach for the softest compound tyre to go on to, um, and it's not there, that's, I think, where it could be, um,
03:47a little bit more difficult, but, ooh, it's once again at turn four, this time, even before we got on the curb, Max Verstappen.
03:54Uh, Martin Brundle is down at Decido del Argo, you saw that live with your own eyes, Martin.
04:02I did indeed, but, uh, yeah, Max has been, uh, arriving here and just attacking this corner, as they all have.
04:10I mean, this is extraordinary, and here it comes again, and they're downshifting on the outside of the corner,
04:16as we saw Max and Verstappen use, but this is the time to find your limits, this is the one and only session,
04:24where you can come in here a little bit too hard, find if you've got to just back off a bit, break a two-three metres earlier,
04:31or have you, but what we'll have about coming out on track on sprint weekend, is FP1 is absolutely flat out.
04:38We say it's the only dry session, so we, the forecast says, um, there is a risk for this afternoon for the sprint qualifying,
04:45and then there is a very, very high risk for, uh, overnight, uh, leading to tomorrow morning of very strong rain
04:51and potentially very strong winds for, for the sprint race in the morning,
04:55and then, uh, the forecast seems to be, uh, improving for the rest of the weekends,
04:59but you know how it is here, it's changing every, every, uh, couple of hours.
05:03It's where the weather starts, doesn't blow in from, uh, Laurent, thank you very much,
05:07we'll be back with you in qualifying, if that's okay.
05:09The drivers are racing for positioning at the apex,
05:13and it's not actually racing for, uh, in a true sense of the word, so...
05:18Well, remember, they are guidelines, they're not a regulation.
05:21Yeah.
05:21So the stewards don't have to adopt exactly what the guidelines say,
05:25but it is the drivers who wanted the guidelines and wanted it kind of standardised.
05:29So it's, uh, it's, it's a point that will be discussed for a long while to come.
05:341-11-0-0-4, Alex Albon, medium tyres going on, Ted Kravitz,
05:39not the soft tyres, downplaying expectations, weren't they, it has.
05:43Saying, do not expect another fourth here.
05:46But, uh, well, you never know how the weekend is going to go.
05:48And while you were talking, went fourth fastest overall,
05:51as we see him, Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda.
05:54Oh my God, what does he do?
05:56Whenever those two are on track, they seem to be together,
05:59and there seems to be something of an issue.
06:01And at this rate, Oscar Piastri is going to be right in the mix.
06:04This is a decent lap, Corinne.
06:05Yeah, fastest of anybody in the first two sectors.
06:08His teammate, Lando Norris, is coming up to the middle sector,
06:11and is a little bit down, so Piastri goes quickest now on a 10-1.
06:15That is a strong lap for an FB1 session, I think, properly.
06:19Lando here, no car in front of him, so no slipstream effect for him
06:24as he comes up to the line, and he goes second fastest, but nearly three tenths down.
06:28And he's got to give one or two sets back at the end of this session.
06:33Normally it's two sets at the end of FB1, but because it's a sprint weekend,
06:36can you keep those soft tyres?
06:39I'm not sure, actually, the answer to that,
06:41as Lewis Hamilton's sliding his way around through Junsao.
06:46Just watching Hamilton's lap in terms of times, he put the personal best for the first sector.
06:51There's a half a second down on Piastri on this lap,
06:54and then backed off and had something, he might have had a spin, actually,
06:57in the middle sector on this lap.
06:59But he's struggling, Lewis Hamilton, down in 19th at the moment,
07:02and not going to improve.
07:03Oscar Piastri crosses the line, can't go faster than 109.98.
07:09Doesn't matter, he's still the quickest guy on track.
07:12Orlando Norris on a personal best,
07:15and about two tenths of his teammate through the first two sectors,
07:19and in the end goes quickest with an absolutely stonking final sector.
07:24The two McLaren separated by 23 milliseconds,
07:2823 one thousandths of a second, going in to sprint qualifying.
07:33He's not put the mediums on, and this is what happened,
07:37approaching Magulio, the dive.
07:40Oh, he did have a spin.
07:43Big one, two spins.
07:45720.
07:46Both Ferraris choosing not to run a second set of tyres in that session,
07:50so they're relying on the driver's experience there
07:52to kind of make it work on whatever they're given later in the weekend,
07:55and, yeah, saving two sets of tyres as well,
07:58which is going to be helpful for both Ferraris.
08:00Yeah, they've banked, the same as everyone, as the Red Bulls.
08:04They've banked the mediums, which is crucial.
08:07And the soft as well.
08:08Yeah, but I think, in Max's case...
08:11...reated the door.
08:16I would explain it.
08:17...
