The Customs and Excise Division says its new Point of Sale Debit Card payment system is a major step in the Division's ongoing efforts to modernize its operations and strengthen the ease of doing business nationwide.

The announcement was made the day after the Prime Minister called on the public sector to come together to improve the ease of doing business in this country.

00:00The Customs and Excise Division, which is under the Ministry of Finance, announced the official launch of its point-of-sale debit card LINCS payment system, which it says will allow customers to make secure, convenient payments directly at customs offices across Trinidad and Tobago.
00:17The National Payment and Innovation Company of Trinidad and Tobago, the NPICTT, which is under the Ministry of Planning, noted the system was one of the promises made by Finance Minister Davindranath Tanku in his Budget 2026 statement in Parliament last month.
00:33The NPICTT said that the new point-of-sale debit card payment system at Customs and Excise offices is supported by that state-owned company as well as Innovation Company of Trinidad and Tobago and the partly state-owned telecommunications services of Trinidad and Tobago, TSTT.
00:53The Customs and Excise Division said this initiative represents a major step in the division's ongoing efforts to modernize its operations, enhance customer service, and strengthen the ease of doing business nationwide.
01:07The announcement was made on Friday following the launch of the Trinidad and Tobago revitalization blueprint by Prime Minister Kamala Passat-Bissessor and members of her cabinet at the Diplomatic Center in St. Anne's on Thursday.

01:47The NPICTT said the new electronic debit payment system at Customs and Excise uses the e-cashbook platform approved by the Treasury Division and designed to track payments and report revenue in real time, making public transactions more secure and transparent than ever before.
02:08The Prime Minister spoke about such issues regarding state revenue in general on Thursday.
02:13My government will empower leaders within the public sector to make business happen.
02:20We will do this by revising the public service manual, modernizing government across ministries and state enterprises.
02:29The time has come now not only to empower but also to hold people accountable.

02:39The Prime Minister said there must be real delivery by the public sector.
02:43These reforms will strengthen governance, improve project management, enhance audits and reporting, and ensure that every dollar spent is tied to performance.
02:57Ministries will be held accountable to key performance indicators.
03:03When these changes take root, they will strengthen our financial stability and lay the foundation for greater rewards, including foreign exchange generation, which we need, and at the same time, economic diversification and human development.
03:19On Friday, the Customs and Excise Division said the New Link's payment option provides both commercial and non-commercial stakeholders with faster, safer and more efficient payment services.
