00:00We're here reporting live from Newark Liberty International Airport in Newark, New Jersey,
00:04with a spotlight on the flight disruptions affecting U.S. travelers across the nation.
00:08The Federal Aviation Administration ordered a 10 percent cut to flight capacity at 40 high-volume
00:13markets effective today. This with the intent to alleviate pressure on air traffic controllers
00:18and the aviation system as the longest U.S. government shutdown in history prolongs
00:22for a 38th day. Roughly 3 percent of U.S. flights are canceled today,
00:26and that's according to aviation analytics company Serium. But that's still below the 4 to 5 percent
00:31cancellation rate that's typical during a bad winter storm. Air traffic controllers and TSA agents
00:36alike have not been paid in more than five weeks. That's since the government shutdown began on
00:41October 1st, with many experiencing fatigue and others calling out sick from work. As for when
00:47their payments will resume, well, that all depends on when leaders in Washington come to a consensus
00:51about major issues, including health care subsidies.
