00:00This 18-year-old world champion para archer Sheetal Devi has just created history once
00:09again by becoming the first-ever para-athlete selected to represent India in an able-bodied
00:14international competition. The young prodigy from Jammu and Kashmir will compete in the
00:19Asia Cup Stage 3 in Jeddah as part of India's able-bodied junior team, marking a milestone
00:24moment not just for her but for Indian sport itself. Born in 2007 in Luitar, Kishtawar,
00:29Jammu and Kashmir, Sheetal was born without arms due to phocomelia, a rare congenital condition.
00:34Training at the Sri Mata Vaishna Devi Shrine Boat Sports Complex in Katra, Sheetal developed a unique
00:39technique, using her feet to draw the bow, a sight that has amazed audiences and experts around the
00:44world. Her selection for the able-bodied team was earned purely on performance, not special
00:49consideration. At the National Selection Trials in Sonipath, over 60 able-bodied archers competed
00:54under identical conditions. Sheetal not only held her ground but finished third overall,
00:59securing her spot through sheer precision and perseverance. In 2024, Sheetal had already made
01:05India proud by winning a bronze medal at the Paris Paralympics in the mixed-team compound event and
01:10becoming the first female armless archer to win a world championship title earlier this year.
01:15Inspired by Turkey's Paralympic champion Oznur Kyorgerdi, who also competes in able-bodied events,
01:21Sheetal has now followed that path, breaking barriers and inspiring millions across the globe.
