00:00House Republicans want to impeach the federal judge who approved secret subpoenas for the
00:04cell phone records of sitting members of Congress.
00:07This guy's got to be out of office. This is ridiculous what's going on.
00:10Lawmakers contend Judge James Bosberg approved the subpoenas so Special Counsel Jack Smith
00:15could entrap Republicans during the investigation into the 2020 presidential election.
00:20Now they hope to remove him from his lifetime appointment on the D.C. District Court.
00:24He has taken it on his own to be a hyper-partisan judge going after Republicans,
00:31signing off on subpoenas that are unlawful, and he signed off on them just to get his political rivals.
00:38This is why he needs to be impeached.
00:42If Judge Bosberg's name sounds familiar, it's because he made headlines earlier this year
00:47when he blocked President Trump from using the Alien Enemies Act to deport alleged gang members
00:52who are in the country illegally.
00:55Bosberg ordered the Trump administration to turn around deportation flights that had already taken off.
01:01That led Congressman Brandon Gill to introduce an article of impeachment against Bosberg for abuse of power.
01:06It didn't go anywhere, but now Gill is expected to bring forward a new impeachment resolution over the subpoenas.
01:12The subpoenas that Bosberg signed were part of the Arctic Frost investigation,
01:17which ultimately served as the basis for the criminal case against Donald Trump in which he was charged
01:23with trying to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.
01:26The subpoenas required telecommunications companies to hand over what's called tolling data,
01:31which shows who the senators called along with the date, time, and location the conversation took place.
01:38The subpoenas targeted nine sitting senators and one member of the House of Representatives, all Republicans.
01:43Senator Ron Johnson is calling on the House to hold a series of public impeachment hearings.
01:48Johnson acknowledged that if the House impeaches Bosberg, he would not be convicted in the Senate
01:53and removed from office because Republicans don't have enough votes in that chamber.
01:57The most important thing here is not necessarily the verdict.
02:00The most important thing is exposing exactly what happened,
02:04and a House hearing and Senate hearings would be a really good way of doing that.
02:09Special counsel Jack Smith indicted Donald Trump twice.
02:12He charged Trump with mishandling classified material and trying to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.
02:19Those cases never went to trial because the classified documents case was thrown out
02:23and the election case couldn't get to trial before Trump won re-election.
02:27According to a report in the New York Times,
02:29Smith is prepared to fight back if he's indicted or targeted by Trump's Department of Justice.
02:34The report states Smith welcomes the opportunity to present all the evidence he collected against Trump in a public courtroom.
