00:00Financially, this is not going to make sense.
00:03Heinz & Palms started off to be optimistic and easy, and then we've got surprise after
00:07surprise.
00:08We are up really against the wall.
00:10Okay, let's get this party started.
00:12A resort buyout is when one individual basically rents the entire property.
00:18We are racing to meet the original deadline, and I'm very nervous about having guests on
00:23site.
00:24It won't be a full knockdown, but it's going to be a challenging one.
00:27Our timelines and budgets are out the door.
00:30I honestly do not feel the entire property will be ready.
00:34Let's get you and I and the kids and maybe try and get my mom and dad up to the cottage
00:37just to see it when it's all finished.
00:39Yeah, this place is falling apart.
00:41It needs some love.
00:42I better call in some help.
00:57Are we really going to take a break and sit for five minutes?
01:05Yeah.
01:06We're going to pretend like we're guests here?
01:07Do you relax when you still hear the hammer and the saw and the tile cutter?
01:16That is, I start to get nervous when I don't hear any noise.
01:19We have a lot of things on the go at the moment.
01:21Of course, Pines and Poms is one of them, but we also have Cyril Lamar, there's development
01:26planning.
01:27I have another show to film.
01:29We've got the cottage that's falling apart that needs some love.
01:32I feel bad on one hand, leaving you here on your own, but on the other hand, I have things
01:37to do.
01:38It's not going to be easy.
01:39I do better when we're together, both 100% focused on one project.
01:46Well, we'll have to find you another personal assistant while I'm gone.
01:52This is you.
01:53The cottage is me.
01:54We'll meet in the Bahamas.
01:55Wow.
01:56It sounds so romantic.
01:58Yeah.
01:59It's just math.
02:00It's just math.
02:01Yeah.
02:02It's just math.
02:03Okay.
02:04No matter how many things we have going on or how much we're traveling, the kids are
02:15always either with us or we do take the time to spend time with them away from work.
02:21It's really all about family.
02:22I mean, that's why we're doing what we're doing.
02:25What do you do first for your pre-flight?
02:27Um, make sure windows are clean.
02:29No.
02:30I already cleaned the windows.
02:31Master on, flaps down, master off, right?
02:33Yeah.
02:34I think it's great that Lincoln has an interest in flying.
02:38He's been taking lessons and he loves getting up in the airplane.
02:41Registration?
02:42Yeah.
02:43Ownership?
02:44It's not like cops are pulling us over.
02:45All right.
02:46You can get ramp checked by the FAA and lose your license.
02:48All right.
02:49All right.
02:50So everything looks good.
02:51You ready to fly?
02:52Yeah.
02:53Are you going to be the corporate pilot for the hotel one day?
02:55If there's enough money involved.
02:57Yeah.
02:58Oh, good.
02:59That's a good answer.
03:00Yeah.
03:01You know, your Opa was a pilot.
03:03Your dad's a pilot.
03:05Are you going to be the next pilot?
03:07I've already got like 12 hours in the books.
03:09I'm not an instructor so you can't log this time.
03:11Sorry.
03:12All right.
03:13It's okay.
03:14I can log it as bonding time.
03:17Yeah.
03:18There you go.
03:19Growing up with my dad and his business at the airport and constantly being surrounded
03:22by airplanes and flying with people, I got the bug.
03:26You ready?
03:27Yeah.
03:29That's my boy.
03:31Prop clear.
03:32Clear prop.
03:39Flying for me, it's freedom.
03:48It's that feeling of your parents, you know, giving you a 10 speed for your birthday.
04:02I say, okay, you can go around the block.
04:04You know, the wind in your hair.
04:07I didn't get the wind in my hair part now, but I did when I was 10.
04:23It's really moments like this that make it all worth it.
04:28One more.
04:29One more.
04:30One more.
04:31Whoo!
04:43When we walked into Unit 4 and saw those beautiful vaulted ceilings, and then we came
04:48back in here, and we have whatever this is, a drop ceiling.
04:53So hopefully today we can, while I'm here on site, open this up and figure out what we
04:58have to deal with.
04:59Okay.
05:00So here we go.
05:01What I'm gonna do is I'm gonna start right here.
05:02Okay.
05:03Okay.
05:04And see what we got going on.
05:05So we, we got this coming out.
05:10So there's, there's, there's wood here.
05:15There's wood here.
05:16So Sarah, like I said, what I think this is, I think this is the feeling of this here.
05:22That's very old drywall there.
05:23Very.
05:24Very old drywall.
05:25Yeah.
05:26I think those rafters were running this way, and that ceiling was meant.
05:29I don't think this might have never had a vaulted ceiling.
05:32We'll see.
05:40Despite the rumors of critters up there, I will take a look, see what we have to work
05:45with.
05:46I feel like something's going to crawl out at me.
05:51No, you're fine.
05:52You're fine.
05:53You're fine.
05:54You're fine.
06:05All right, buddy.
06:07Uh, we have to start painting in here.
06:10We got to keep these, as you can see, where's you?
06:13Oh, memory lane.
06:14I'm right here.
06:15We have this memory wall at the cottage.
06:18Collages that my mom made of pictures when the kids were young.
06:22Look at you.
06:23Feed me.
06:24I'm eating.
06:25My mouth is full.
06:26I just ate.
06:27I'm falling asleep.
06:28I'm hungry.
06:29Oh, give me more food.
06:31Oh, I pooped.
06:34This is a good one of cute.
06:36Yeah.
06:37Those look like goggles.
06:38No, they were sunglasses, but he liked to wear them upside down.
06:42There's Nan and Opa.
06:44I think he dressed up like a chicken, but there he is doing something there in Exuma.
06:48I think they might have had a few beverages.
06:51Looking at these photos when my parents were younger and the kids were younger and Sarah and I were spending more time up here.
06:57I think this is really, it tugs at the heartstrings a little bit.
07:00And this is the reason I'm doing this, to save this and keep it in the family so that the kids can have these experiences.
07:05And hopefully one day their kids are up here as well and experiencing Georgian Bay and having fun and spending time with family and building memories as well.
07:12Looks pretty dry to me.
07:21I thought it was going to be really wet or, I don't know, you guys pop up there.
07:27You only have several of them running this way horizontally.
07:33I think all these walls can come out and all the ceiling comes down.
07:37Yeah.
07:38What I'm seeing is that they put this in so that they could put in a drop ceiling.
07:43Yeah.
07:44Okay.
07:45It wasn't structure.
07:46No.
07:47This is not load bearing.
07:48This is not load bearing.
07:49None of this.
07:50All right.
07:51Every day has been different.
07:53Every week has been different on site.
07:56Each one of these units has its own unique challenges.
08:01So it's about problem solving and trying to come up with a solution that keeps the project moving, that keeps everyone happy on the budget side and the timelines.
08:12It's just about finding that common ground.
08:14There's Uncle Mike.
08:15Can I keep this?
08:16We're not getting rid of them.
08:17We're going to put these all back up.
08:18We're just going to fix all the holes.
08:19Nana.
08:20Does Nana have a mullet?
08:21She did have a bit of a mullet, yeah.
08:22She was pretty hardcore.
08:23Oh, yeah, Nana.
08:24There's Uncle Paul.
08:25This is right after Top Gun came out.
08:26He thought he was the Iceman.
08:27Look at this.
08:28That's you?
08:29That was me.
08:30That was a bit of a solar panel.
08:31If that was me, I would have just shaved, right then and there.
08:33That's probably right before I did.
08:34And guess what?
08:35That's going to be you one day.
08:36right after top gun came out he thought he was the ice man look at this that's you that was me
08:43that was a bit of a solar panel if that was me i would have just shaved right then and there
08:51that's probably right before i did and guess what that's going to be you one day
08:56like likes to make fun of the hair sometimes the lack thereof but uh well we'll see he's got a lot
09:02of hair maybe he'll be the one that keeps it if my sacrifice benefits him in the future then i'm
09:08okay with that all right let's get all these out we're going to fill these little pinholes
09:13prepare the wall for paint then we're going to perform the painting task
09:18in a project of this size and scope it's always time to sit down and discuss the budget
09:32today is one of those days i need to sit down with the partners discuss where we're at with
09:37the budget and the timelines and just make sure we're on the same page so let's start with timing
09:42before we hit the b word yeah realistically if it is a resort buyout i think we need to sort of look
09:50at that and understand what that's going to be like for the guests a resort buyout is when one group or
09:56one individual basically rents the entire property which means they will put guests in every single
10:03room often used for a wedding or a special event and have complete privacy and access to the property
10:08it's hoping that it's not looking like it is now
10:14you don't like the blue dumpster right by the pool
10:18we also have to think about our staff though i mean the staff are the ones that are dealing with
10:23the complaints from the guests that's what's stressing me out right now we have to be candid
10:28and honest about it and i think we're i think unfortunately we're well past that it's just
10:33difficult to kind of digest all of the work that's happening at one point yeah when we first met
10:38with you guys and you're like we're going to clean it up and now we're into the point we're condemning
10:42a building and we're going to rebuild it all and have a brand new structure it's very different than
10:47our first meeting with you guys so we hear obviously budget has completely changed but we have removed
10:53the nuclear bombs that would have gone off over the next eight years oh right each of these rooms
11:01incrementally and it may have been more digestible room by room but at least we cleared it took it
11:08all down to the studs and it'll all be brand new i think i've said to rainy 10 or 15 times the day this
11:16is done it will be probably the happiest we've ever been like outside of our wedding day and when
11:22our kids were born there is a goal we will reach we'll get there thank you brian's never these
11:29conversations i feel like oh my god obviously the stress is mounting for everybody and i feel that
11:36brian feels that the internal team feels that the partners feel that so it just starts to grow
11:41i think what we all need to do is just focus on the end game and try and see the light
11:48at the end of the tunnel
12:11it's time to replace the cooktop in the kitchen it's had its years of experience and fun it's time
12:26to update it i'm trying to gain access to that it's been closed in in the cabinets we have to open
12:30everything up hey link yeah you got a job for you get on your back and take out all the screws and drop
12:37these pieces of wood this is training my boy it is paying your dues keep your mouth closed okay
12:44you know what you can do in the morning a good trick yeah is to have a shower and wash this stuff
12:52or i just go bald i touch the red and black wire at the same time he's the third child
12:59i've got a lot of hands on deck to help get this finished the season up here is limited so i certainly
13:05need some help the stores going in the dishwasher's happening the new cooktop's going in ultimately
13:10you know i'd love to get this finished as soon as possible so we can actually enjoy it
13:14before this winter i don't know if that's going to happen but uh we're going to give it a shot
13:19at the front of the cottage going out onto the front deck there is an old aluminum door
13:28and two windows that are leaking
13:31we're going to remove all of those put a new header in place fix up the structure where we need to
13:39and put a new sliding glass door
13:40there we go rough opening done
13:45i'm not just at the cottage all summer doing a bit of renovations i i am working and filming and
13:56in the office back and forth there's a lot to do but every spare minute i have i want to put in up
14:02north so we can keep this place alive i don't want to show up next year and it's just falling down
14:08apart from the aesthetic changes that we're making to the cottage to update a little bit
14:16you know there are some important maintenance issues to take care of we're repairing some of
14:20the siding getting a new fresh coat of paint on there to protect the building envelope from water
14:25another area where you guys have been busy oh my goodness looking good though i don't even know
14:38where to stand all right i'm here i don't even see that we're getting rid of all this old construction
14:44and getting ready to do a put back but there's plenty plenty more to go i saw them this morning
14:49like literally just taking down the block wall like boom but it was amazing to watch plan of attack
14:57for what is solid and can be retained versus what has to go i think we're going to keep everything
15:03that's here the roof the wood the structure the the columns are good this wall is good
15:07and we're going to prep for the outdoor bar next we're not going to keep this old pizza oven
15:14because really it's not functional that will get cleaned up then we have beautiful sort of
15:19actually full return of the bar here seating area banquet there open to the cabana bass there
15:27i think we talked about redoing the roof so that we match the same get rid of the shingles and put
15:32back a 5v crimp roof yeah so same metal roof throughout and then a little bit of repair where
15:37the pool equipment is but that should be it and the pool well they're already making progress on a
15:43pool wall yeah it's looking good you guys have been busy i know it's demo but still yeah all right
15:49i'm gonna there's tools everywhere so your guys are clearly in the middle of working i'll get out
15:53we'll get back to it for sure call me if you need anything on this but i'll just be over on those
15:58unit but don't worry i'll go bug ted today
16:00a few years ago yeah i thought okay maybe it's time to take a little bit slower and i don't know
16:16what happened but in the last year or two we've gotten into more projects we're in
16:19three different countries it's busy oh and there's sarah hey you i have no clue what day it is or what
16:29country i'm in i wasn't expecting to be here but the water pump busted today sarah is actually in
16:36the bahamas at cerula mar and we have an issue with the water pumps it is probably the worst timing
16:41at pines and palms that i could be leaving we have an issue with our cistern um obviously this is
16:48how we get water to all of the hotel rooms we have guests on site to not have water in a hotel
16:54is a major issue this isn't something that we can overlook and put on the back burner
16:58that's the third time this year that one of the water pumps has gone i know it's it's not ideal
17:04that's for sure man oh man normally brian and i would kind of tag team if i was this busy at pines
17:11and palms he would be able to go but he's up in canada he's filming another show he just can't make it
17:17over to the property the schedule keeps changing things are falling farther and farther behind
17:22it's a lot is this our life right now it is our life right now
17:28what are you paying man food no i've already paid you you're working off debt remember backing into
17:51your sister's car no i don't remember that you remember riding a horse i do remember that okay
17:57i think q has a few bills of his own to pay off i don't think this is a fair deal for me
18:03so i think i think you should just paint the place and count as lucky stars here you want to shake that up
18:10i think i think i'm just going to use the stir stick no just like stir shake the bucket
18:17shake it well you're strong why do you think you're here
18:23that's good huh that's not good that's good that's not good that's heavy it's full
18:29it's just like one of those shaking machines
18:35go slow stop
18:39that's a good start i would say by the end of the day you'll have this whole area done
18:54i have to go get packed up you gotta drive three hours east to film with scott sounds good you've
19:00got eight days to finish the whole exterior okay so be careful i will i'll finish this for you
19:05work hard love you if you run out of food let me know i'm good i got my food buddy love you
19:11i have to go and do a little more filming with scott i've asked him before nan and opa come up for a
19:21visit but i want that entire exterior painted so he's got a lot of work ahead of him he's in charge
19:26he's now the project manager and we'll see how it goes
19:29we had one of our inspectors on site today inspectors are normal on any job site they come
19:54and go multiple times and check in on the progress with this property since every single unit is a
20:02little bit different since we have multiple gc's multiple trades on site whenever an inspector shows
20:09up we're all a little on edge we all want to deliver a beautiful product and these are also some crazy
20:17hectic timelines so i'm really hoping there aren't any issues we can't afford any issues
20:27we have to keep moving at all costs
20:32making it happen every day one step a lot of people think that we have a lot of balls in the
20:47air we have the candle burning on both ends or whatever it may be i i don't think i would do it
20:52any different i get i get bored very easily i don't think i would have it any other way
20:56i spent 40 some odd years playing it safe and i think that's allowed us the ability to take a few
21:06risks you're gonna buy the other resort but you just bought another resort in florida in the keys yeah
21:10we parked but i thought you were working on the cottage i'm working on the cottage as well
21:13have you ever relaxed been diagnosed
21:18brian is a busy guy and he likes to be busy on top of being busy so he's got a lot of projects
21:26on the go i admire it because he bites off a lot and he accomplishes some incredible things
21:33and he's ambitious how do you find balance with everything you're doing
21:37at home with the kids with work with different companies
21:41i don't think that i i would necessarily say that i'm the best balanced person i'm clearly like you
21:47like i'm over indexed in the entrepreneurial side of things
21:51you know people always tell me i'm crazy busy and i need to take a break and when am i going to calm
21:56down and i don't see it oh what a glorious day it's not until i look at brian that i realize
22:03this guy's out of control oh what a glorious day brian is a bit of a mirror but it can't just look
22:11good and be completely useless because that's a waste of space but uglier
22:17why some nights when i'm i'm trying to fall asleep over here do i hear you quietly sobbing in your trailer
22:23oh because the pictures of you keep coming up on my social media and i'm like i just feel bad for him
22:28i keep tagging you
22:29now that i've got a few days off from filming in canada i'm going to fly back down to florida
22:42get to pines and ponds and give sarah a hand with whatever she needs
22:46with this project obviously we've tried to increase the timelines we're trying to be open
23:10as quick as we can we're bringing in multiple crews and the scope of work continues to expand
23:17so i think we really need to consider what has to happen on property to meet the deadlines
23:22to meet the budget to make this project be as successful as it can
23:26and i don't know if the partners are going to like my recommendation
23:35look at the site we've already had negative reviews
23:39because of the noise and construction to be honest i think they know it's coming i think
23:45they know this is coming it's like all of us we were hoping for the best but expecting
23:49i'm not usually the negative person but in this instance still having guests on site isn't working
23:56this is not the guest experience anyone wants and likewise from the construction and trades perspective
24:02they don't want to be worried about a young child tripping over a tool or accidentally hurting
24:07themselves on the property we wear both hats which is what i understand like we've been on the flip
24:14side of operationally like the revenue coming in is what you want to help continue the construction
24:19sarah's something to tell you oh great bring it on
24:36sarah's something to tell you oh great bring it on sorry guys come on you always fail
24:42on things like this did you see the bus go by right under right under the bus right under he just
24:49throws me right under we wanted to just bring up the conversation with you both candidly about
24:55the state of the property about how your guests that are still here are feeling trying to keep it open
25:02and like angering a bunch of people it's probably not worth it it's going to be more expensive in the long run
25:07right if we don't shut down the resort there is absolutely no way we're going to be ready for
25:13these buyouts we're at the point where like no one is happy from the standpoint of like the trades
25:19are stressed because they're trying to be mindful right and then your guests are like well there's
25:24trades like but neither one of them is pushing them as hard as we are and they're trying to tiptoe
25:28around everything it makes total sense if we can come up with a solution where we just keep our staff
25:31that's the most important thing to me because i don't want to just let them go this is one thing we
25:35did in the bahamas too we're like okay what can you do right you know everybody everybody can clean
25:41up everybody can help with some construction cleaning is huge i mean there's always something
25:45to clean just always it's tough and stressful but we have to really just close this place down
25:51and move forward as quickly as possible one to just get back to heads in the beds but also we don't
25:57want all these people walking around dealing with all this construction it's not a good look for us
26:01we it's inevitable we have to bite the bullet it's not worth it right okay that was easier i'm glad we
26:08have this little talk
26:23now that the hotel is officially closed to guess it means we can really go full tilt on the construction
26:29get the trades just moving as quickly as possible so that we can make this deadline for the wedding
26:36booking
26:50all right q we got a little project here this is something uncle paul always wanted to do
26:54so we're gonna surprise them sounds good we're gonna wrap twine around this post
27:07okay
27:11this is how the pirates do it on their masts uncle paul's gonna love this and if we ever get a cat
27:17cat cat's gonna love this just start walking around in circles yeah but you're in the way oh like that you
27:25mean well i meant above me
27:33come on faster this is fun now
27:40i'm getting real dizzy you're getting dizzy yeah why are we doing this again for uncle paul oh yeah
27:47i think a lot of family time now is talking about bigger more meaningful things with the kids about
28:09their future current events business ideas or travel ideas or things they want to do
28:14hey don't steal my spot oh no i tangled it that's what happens when you try and steal your kids fishing
28:20spot yeah q's at that age where he's finished school and he's got so many opportunities ahead of
28:26him he's got to make a decision what direction he wants to go is it what he has to do for the rest of
28:30his life absolutely not but we want him to take that next step you know start working open a business
28:37you know just get more experience and really really discover who he is and what he wants to do so what
28:43are your plans this fall um i'd like to spend some time in bahamas doing what do some tour guiding and
28:52fishing charters i think the best thing now is to set up some sort of business that i still enjoy doing
28:59what about getting into a not only chartering but getting into boat rentals i think that's a good
29:06idea too okay you remember when you were a kid you wanted to start a fishing charter business
29:12yep and you wanted to call it something smells fishy no that was going to be my tv show
29:19yeah i have to respect him for saying this is my dream it's what i want to do to get there
29:25you know i i need to make some money because he he won't be on mom and dad payroll forever
29:31no it's great to see that he's being responsible and he recognizes that you know if this is a goal
29:36that i want to achieve in in the short term i need to make some sacrifices and put in the work
29:41it's a proud dad moment so why don't we do this you want to go into business together i would love to
29:47you'll do the work i'll make the investment you're going to take maybe an online business
29:53business management course it's a deal i might need to try somewhere else for dinner like a drive-through
30:01this space
30:20this summer has been a busy time for brian and the kids they've been up at the cottage brian's been
30:25working away i haven't spent a lot of time there so to come up now and see the work that they've done
30:31is incredible to see there was a lot of work that needed to be done to keep this cottage
30:37alive we purchased this from the parents so that you know my brothers and and nieces and and family
30:43and and kids and everybody could stay here we plan on you know just keeping this property for generations
30:49so it this wasn't really a complete redesign and let's remodel this and and make it you know new
30:57this was a let's maintain some nostalgia replace the decks add a few new modern touches but just really
31:03keep that nostalgia and those memories of growing up here the deck is amazing the outside is the big
31:11part we fixed all the structural stuff in the back so it's not sinking anymore yeah you know it's not
31:17going to fall down we got the decks rebuilt so nobody's going to fall through a deck some new appliances
31:26freshening up the paint
31:27all the new railings at the back so you can really take advantage of the view now
31:35repainting the exterior
31:37making the old tub into a walk-in shower little things like that to make it more usable
31:42i think it's exactly what it is meant to be it's the lake house hold on you put a new backsplash in
31:51i did you like you got yourself some tumbled marble brian is that tumbled marble brian and i have a running
31:57joke about tumbled marble it's like his favorite tile of all time i just want to point out the first
32:05backsplash that i did our very first renovation together was his bachelor pad in vancouver and we
32:13actually did a marble backsplash and ever since that time whenever we're doing another renovation
32:20he brings up that tile you know back then you liked it i was trying to impress you we weren't even
32:25married yet back then you were a dance teacher we didn't have years of like love the vanity beautiful
32:34vanity choice it's it's cozy you could sit on the toilet and use the vanity and all i can think in
32:43my head is how many homes have we seen where he said that is the worst idea ever it's generally a pet
32:50peeve for me when vanities are too large for a bathroom but the focus is really on countertop space
32:57and the amount of available storage so i call it a win
33:04brian has gone and collected some photos of fish oars just a little bit of things that he thinks
33:11should be on these walls so i'm gonna let him take the lead i'm gonna let him put up everything where
33:16he wants it to be your mom and dad are gonna love the oar so and where like just there yeah why not
33:22like really yeah go for it you're just you're just messing with me now if you hand me a set of drawings
33:30i can i can build whatever's on the paper but i've never claimed to be a designer a decorator
33:36it's actually kind of confusing to me that whole thing that sarah does
33:44you really like them here i was a little worried on brian's design skills maybe i have some competition
33:51but i think he's sticking to being a contractor can you come oh my god
34:01i love you give me strength
34:05so when are your parents going to be here they should be here in like an hour
34:09all right let's get this finished before they're coming i want to see when my dad walks down the stairs
34:14if he says you still haven't fixed the squeak
34:20i'm gonna leave that that's a classic they didn't know that that sound meant to us oh mom and dad are
34:27going to bed sneak out to the party now he's done a lot in a short period of time and i think he's done
34:35a fabulous job oh thanks it still feels like home for his mom and dad which i know was very important
34:45this wasn't a full remodel this was just more from a safety perspective that they could come up there
34:52and feel like it still felt like them you did a great job on which part marrying me
35:00well nobody's perfect oh god these are nice towels though right no comment
35:18now that we're both trying to get things ready for brian's parents to arrive inevitably the kids need
35:24something so we're here we're putting on our parent hat i had an idea that i could go get
35:31some more supplies for the pony do you know what you want you can just debit it is that okay daddy and
35:36are okay with that you have unlimited debit transactions so you can buy hay shavings treats
35:42everything you need all right and if you lose your card we can log into the app and lock it for you
35:48so no one else can buy treats only you oh that's handy yeah it protects your money see these are some
35:54of the benefits of your no monthly fee rbc advantage banking account for students so happy shopping all
36:01right thank you guys have fun bubbles be safe we love you i love you
36:12my parents haven't been to the cottage for a number of years and there's been some significant
36:17health challenges in the very recent past i think it's important for them and it'll be an important
36:24memory for us as well it's been nearly nine or ten years since we've been up here we actually bought
36:32the property in 86 87 and we used to come up here quite often now we have it at a state where they can
36:40come up and stay for a little while and enjoy it with us i think it's great we're going to find a
36:46chair we're going to light the fire going to raid the liquor cabinet you've already raided the liquor
36:51cabinet oh well then we're going back to me don't worry we'll have something for you tonight we don't
36:59know how many more opportunities we'll have to all be up here together so we're going to just cherish
37:05cherish this time okay all right we have arrived at the new stairs it's a bit of a journey to get here so
37:13i think as you're older and your mobility is a little bit less it's like becomes more difficult
37:18doesn't that slide nice do you remember how hard that was to open look i kept that for nostalgia i
37:25kept that old yeah thing what do you mean this old thing this the shoe rack not you oh hello
37:34what do you think it's mom and dad oh my goodness
37:48since we've sold this cottage to brian he declared that this is now the baumler cottage
38:09and anyone is welcome to use it it's quite rewarding to see it now it's wonderful
38:16i hope we can spend more time here it's perfect look at this hand knitted we were going to do
38:26that the whole time we were here you guys were yes 400 feet of twine i couldn't afford the cord
38:34q and i did it he ran around the post a couple hundred times did you oh you didn't you didn't
38:40unscrew it and turn the post no we didn't
38:49you know what's important to the cottage even more important than being fashionable
38:52but memories memories memories that's why i didn't want to do too much i didn't want to
38:58do everything you'll know if your kids come home too late and you'll also know when your parents go
39:04to bed and it's time to head out to a party oh yeah that too this whole project is not about brian
39:12or myself it's really the memories with his family the cottage is all about memories and nostalgia
39:19it's the property i have some of the best memories of my life on growing up in the summers across the way
39:25there they lived uh the people we bought the land from and the girl uh kiersey who was in love with
39:33either brian or paul ah now i know why you like to come to the cottage okay first of all true story
39:42there was no love with anyone we were friends everyone was friends there was no in love with
39:46anyone are we rolling on this is this couch like the old one jumpable uh you can jump on the couch if
39:59you'd like to jump i thought you were going to say something else no no no no i'm not with four cameras
40:04going this one doesn't have any memories the other one has a million memories our second date was here
40:13right on the carpet in front of the fireplace yeah we had a nice afternoon too much it was beautiful
40:17too much you brought a it's a lot coming out right now we're really really getting behind the curtain
40:23wandering down memory lane with my parents as they get older is i think more and more enjoyable but
40:29also more and more important because you know we still have that opportunity to sit and talk to them
40:38it is kind of nice that over the past 36 years yes think of everything that's happened here how many
40:46kids and families and friends and for us is where it all started too this is where i first met you
40:52both you invited me here for thanks we did thanksgiving together here i remember i made homemade apple pie
40:59to take and i was so nervous to meet your mom and dad but your dad gave me the biggest hug they made me feel
41:05so comfortable from that first moment we shared thanksgiving together i told q when he was painting
41:12this i said the next time this gets renovated he's probably going to be 50 and you'll be almost 80.
41:17oh i wish i was a fly on the wall then when when you guys are 80. you guys will be 130.
41:26yeah getting my parents up to the cottage again
41:30is amazing and it's nostalgic and it's it's it's a little bittersweet you know to be honest they're
41:36they're getting older and in 30 years we will be them and our kids will be us and quentin will be
41:43rebuilding that deck yeah it was jojo and quentin who also did some of the painting up here they
41:51repainted it all for you guys we tried to keep it as close to your original color dad do you remember
41:56the last time you painted this place you were right back here we have a picture you were standing
42:02on the deck and quentin was up the ladder with a with a paintbrush and he was helping you we were
42:07doing this peak here yeah he would have probably been about three years old maybe a little yes and then
42:14you guys always used to sit on the stairs here down looking at the lake yes and see who could spit the
42:21farthest cherry pits that's where they get it yes that's okay what are you thinking it was like 24
42:32years ago that i first met them and we were so young and i don't know you want to cherish these
42:39memories you want to cherish the time we have and the bottom line is we're i don't know we're just a
42:46family and that is at the heart of everything so just seeing werner and colleen here it's i think it's
42:54pretty special yeah it's hard to believe like 36 years is just it's gone so looking into the future
43:04will quentin and charlotte and link and josephine be standing here in 30 years looking over the rail
43:10thinking what a cool thing that our grandparents started and you know our parents continued and
43:17will they continue it for their kids it's pretty wild to think about
43:28the pines and palms property is officially closed to guess it means we can really go full tilt on the
43:34construction so that we can make this deadline for the wedding booking it's going to be like the
43:40night before the wedding you and i are going to be finishing some of the final touches 770 boxes that's
43:47not a few long days ahead there's a lot of work to do definitely crunch time okay so you're feeling
43:54good i don't know about that this is the final moment so please unwrap absolutely anything it's gonna be a
44:01long night this is not the one that's gonna kill me katie and rainie are going to walk through the
44:06first townhouse i'm excited for their reaction oh my gosh
