00:00Jeep tells owners to stop charging plug-in hybrid SUVs over fire risk.
00:05Jeep is recalling more than 320,000 plug-in hybrid SUVs over a possible fire risk, urging
00:11owners to stop charging and park away.
00:14The recall includes 2020-2025 Wrangler 4XE models and 2022-2026 Grand Cherokee 4XE models.
00:25According to Stellantis, Jeep's parent company, the fire risk exists even when the ignition
00:30is turned off.
00:32The company noted that the risk is lower when the battery is fully drained, but asked owners
00:36not to plug-in, and an internal review found 19 fire incidents.
00:41Two months ago, Stellantis recalled over 91,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4XE vehicles after a hybrid
00:48control system glitch allegedly overloaded and reset the battery pack control module microprocessor
00:54causing misreads and potential stalls.
00:57NHTSA said that only around 1% of the recalled vehicles, roughly 918, were likely to have
01:03the defect, and others outside the time frame or without the processor were not included.
01:08Jeep is also recalling about 20,700 vehicles in Canada, 2,600 in Mexico, and another 32,000
01:17elsewhere.
01:18Stellantis said it expects to have a fix ready soon, and customers will be contacted to
01:23schedule repairs.
01:24Earlier, over 63,000 Jeep Cherokees from 2017 through 2019 were recalled for power transfer
01:31units that could affect staying in gear.
01:34In November, Stellantis said over 1,000 employees at its Jeep plant in Ohio were laid off indefinitely
01:41to align production with demand.
01:44Electric and hybrid growth brings battery, software, and powertrain issues.
01:48You should take extra precautions and check NHTSA or dealerships.
01:54Stellantis is expected to announce repair details and timelines in the coming weeks.
