00:00GOP senators turn on Trump over policies hurting MAGA people.
00:04Republican senators are turning on President Donald Trump, warning that his plan to cut
00:09funding for blue state projects could harm conservative voters.
00:13When asked whether she approves of Trump's threats to cut major projects like the $16
00:17billion Hudson River rail tunnel between New York and New Jersey, Senate Appropriations
00:22Committee Chair Susan Collins told The Hill's Alexander Bolton,
00:26No, I'm not for that. I'm not in favor of that, Collins said.
00:30Collins then shifted some of the blame to Democrats, saying they need to do more to end the shutdown.
00:36What we really need is for the Democrats to be more cooperative in opening government.
00:41It is very telling last week that they voted against bringing regular appropriations bills
00:45to the Senate floor and that they also are blocking the appointment of conferees for the
00:49three bills we passed months ago.
00:51Senator Lisa Murkowski cautioned that by targeting blue states, the Trump administration
00:56is also harming its own base.
00:58You show me one blue state in America where you don't have pockets, maybe even big pockets,
01:04of Republicans, of conservatives, of MAGA people, of pro-Trump.
01:10Do we not care about them? Murkowski warned.
01:13Are we just saying, if you don't like it, you should move to a place where you've got a
01:16Republican governor? It makes no sense.
01:19Why are we being punitive? It's hard enough when the government is not operating as it should be.
01:24Let's not be punitive to Americans just to score political points.
01:28Bolton also interviewed Kansas Senator Jerry Moran, who claimed that federal funding should
01:32be distributed based on merit, not politics. When pressed on whether he supports Trump cutting
01:38off funding during the shutdown, Moran said, no, I don't. He added, it is not about what political party,
01:45what color your state is associated with. It's about the value of the project,
01:49which is determined by Congress and implemented by the administration.
01:53Senator Shelley Moore Capito said Republican payback could easily backfire,
01:58hurting their own side. When Bolton questioned if it's right to pull funding from blue states
02:03solely for having Democratic representation in Washington, Capito said, I wouldn't think so.
02:08She added, the shoe's going to be on the other foot someday,
02:11and I don't think that's a good precedent to set.
