00:00I want you to pay very close attention.
00:03You are not going to want to miss this next trick.
00:08One of Ruben's goals for this movie was to have as much real magic as possible.
00:13Have us do everything practically.
00:16If I had known he was that easy to get rid of.
00:18Not that easy.
00:19That's the brilliant thing, having a guy like Ruben Fleischer.
00:24He's able to come up with these images and ideas.
00:27When I heard Ruben say that, I couldn't fully understand what it meant.
00:31To me it didn't seem that different to kind of do the effect on computers or in person.
00:37There's something about just seeing magic that is a fairly cynical adult.
00:42It gives you this feeling of wonder and awe that I just absolutely love.
00:48But then shooting it in person with the practical effects made me realize how wonderful it is
00:52because there are all these little nuances, these things that make it feel less glossy,
00:57these details that make it feel less perfect and more real.
01:01We all need magic more than ever.
01:02The showmanship of a magician, the skills of a magician, we require these actors to really learn magic
01:08because we're doing as much of it in camera as possible.
01:11Guys, Houdini's straitjacket.
01:13Yes it is.
01:14Hey can I put you in here for old times sake?
01:16No.
01:17What was so great about number three is we have three fantastic magicians.
01:20They taught us all the tricks, everyone worked so hard.
01:24Have I ever missed the card in a rehearsal?
01:26They really wanted this third movie to feel real and for the magic in it to feel like
01:32it's actually magic that could be accomplished by a performer in a live setting.
01:37You ain't seen nothing yet.
01:39And we wanted the magic to be incorporated into the script so it didn't feel like it was like an external thing,
01:46that it was all inherent into what they're doing.
01:49Thrilled baby!
01:50We're thrilled!
01:51What we forget is how hard it is because there are things that we've been doing for say 20 years
01:57so you think wait you just do this.
01:59Well just doing this is something that we've done for years and years and so it's easy to forget how difficult it is.
02:04They're kind of lending their time and talent to us and we want to make sure that it's as authentic as possible.
02:11Good as going!
02:13And so while trying to make the magic real, we also need to make it something the actors can do and you know,
02:19true to the story and true to the vision that the screenwriters and the director have.
02:24Remind if I just figure this out really quickly?
02:26Ruben wants all the actors to know what they're doing and to have their magic tricks on lock which I really respect.
02:32That authenticity hopefully will allow the audience to feel as if they've gone to a magic show
02:38and that they are seeing things unfold right before their very own eyes.
02:49Magic 101 man, never act surprised when the trick actually works.
02:52Magic 101 man, never act officially works.
02:53Haven't you ever talked about the crap that you've had on your screen and that your camera
02:54when the camera's had on, your camera should go and be...
02:57around the platform at this point in time to make sure look ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok….
