00:00Okay, good morning. My name is Carl Fleiss-Thompson. I'm a director and owner of Big FT Shack Rockport Adventures, Ben-On-Tolkarn.
00:08Wonderful event today. We've collected many, many bodyboards, and we're looking at the implication of the impact of these bodyboards,
00:15the cheap ones, on our environment when they're misused.
00:18Good old Rob Barber here from Nuki Activity Centre is here talking about the safety impact of when you buy these cheap and awful bodyboards.
00:25I'm here for the perspective of what I see left in the environment on my tours, not just during the day.
00:32At night, I'm picking up all the particles of my UV torches. So, great event, local school, sorting these boards out.
00:40Super important that we get the message through to the schools and to the pupils, the new breed of bodyboarder, if you like,
00:46that buying a bodyboard that's going to last is really important for the environment, but also really important for the safety concerns.
00:53The RNLI stats show that lots of bodyboarders, new bodyboarders, head out with this kit that isn't up to the job and find themselves in a sticky situation.
01:02Because I think the leash breaks, the cord that's attached to the board, or the board snaps, which leaves you out in deep water and often in need of rescue.
01:11So, we really want to overcome a few things. The first one, the environmental impact, and secondly, the danger on the beaches in Nuki and beyond.
01:18So, these young people are doing an amazing job that they're reciting these bodyboards, and we're hoping to see them banished from the public shops,
01:25and hopefully that mission will spread far and wide across the world.
