Police Interceptors S24E03 (Oct 13 2025)
Transcript
00:00This is Police Interceptors, and you're riding with the pride of
00:10Northamptonshire, Ace Pursuit drivers, with air support, and a crack dog unit.
00:23They bring down the bad guys, keep the streets safe, and battle 24-7, in the war on crime.
00:48This is what it is, isn't it? We find them, we lock them up.
00:50Coming up.
00:55He's crashed on the 840 brake towards Northampton.
00:59Man-hung for a missing dangerous driver.
01:02Oh, I really want to find him.
01:05I'm pretty sure you're hooked!
01:06A contain and call-out with firearms and the dog unit.
01:13And...
01:13The whole bonnet's bent in where the car's sort of taking the street right out.
01:17A lucky escape from a roundabout wreck.
01:20What's happened this evening?
01:22We're just having a walk.
01:37Flying solo in the south of the county is Interceptor Charlie Brown.
01:41This afternoon's mission is to track down a Mercedes with a marker.
01:48So he's plotting up for a roundabout stakeout.
01:52Quite recent intel that suggests that the vehicle is used by an organised crime group.
01:57And what this crime group do is either purchase or create fake documents like driving licences and certificates of insurance.
02:05And so we will try and spot the vehicle as it should pass us from the left, get it stopped and speak to the occupants.
02:15According to the latest ANPR camera hit, the grey Mercedes should be passing any second.
02:21There it is.
02:27Right on time.
02:30Where's he going?
02:31He's trying to run.
02:34But off the mark, the target is soon in sight.
02:38So it will be the Mercedes in lane one.
02:43What we'll do is try and display the follow me sign.
02:48Moving in front of the Merc in his marked bold, though, Charlie monitors the driver in his mirrors.
03:00If the driver has something to hide, he might not play ball.
03:08Reaching a roundabout, Merc Man undertakes and makes a break for it.
03:13Rerouting onto the A43, it's foot-to-the-floor time.
03:27The vehicle looked one-up and I don't pay off.
03:32Since this was only meant to be a friendly check on driving documents, control need to give the go-ahead for a pursuit.
03:38Charlie started out in the force control room.
03:56Now he's a pursuit-trained advanced driver.
03:59And although this might be his first solo pursuit...
04:041-1, we are off, off, off.
04:08With Silverstone Village on the offside.
04:11Wait.
04:12He remains as cool as a cucumber.
04:16Temporarily, high risk, wrong way around the roundabout.
04:19Back to medium.
04:20We are Dodford Road toward Silverstone, with an immediate left, left, left at the junction.
04:28Wait.
04:30The dangerous Merc driver is running risk after risk.
04:34Towards Abthorpe.
04:36Vehicle overtaken on the opposite side of the road.
04:40Before recklessly going the wrong way down the carriageway at 80 miles an hour.
04:45Aborted, aborted, aborted.
04:47He's travelling south on the north at 43, continuing towards Brackley.
04:53I've abandoned.
04:55A head-on collision at this speed could have lethal consequences.
04:59Just to confirm for you, I've turned lights and sirens off and I've stopped.
05:05Within seconds...
05:07..a fellow interceptor on the A43 makes a shocking call.
05:13They've just been a big RTC on the A43, but is it a sub-gray mark they were chasing?
05:19Yes, yes.
05:21It's crashed on the A43 towards Northampton.
05:24Big RTC.
05:29Dash cam from the other unit captures the moment the Mercedes crashes into the central reservation.
05:34Leaving debris rolling across the road.
05:45As the other unit crosses over the carriageway, they also witness the aftermath.
05:50The driver is AWOL.
06:04I'm amazed.
06:07I'm absolutely amazed.
06:11The pursuit couldn't have continued.
06:13That was...
06:14He's obviously put his life and other road users at such risk.
06:19All for what, we don't know.
06:22The concern though as well, obviously, as is our main role in the police,
06:27is to preserve life and limb.
06:29I mean, if he's injured, we obviously have to duty care to obviously find him.
06:34Oh, goodness.
06:37By the state of the road and the car, it's a miracle the driver has walked away.
06:43Are you happy I'll go and have a look for him?
06:48Yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:48See you later, bud.
06:50Every available unit are joining the search for the potentially injured suspect.
06:58The obvious route from where he's trapped was to go up the bank on the northbound side.
07:05Interceptors think the driver could have gone to ground in the surrounding village of Silverstone.
07:10But for how long will he be able to evade capture?
07:15Oh, I really want to find him.
07:31Near Silverstone, Charlie Brown located a grey Mercedes allegedly linked to organised crime.
07:37Speed.
07:38One, one, five.
07:41The dangerous driver at the wheel sped off the wrong way down the A43.
07:47Aborted, aborted, aborted.
07:49And within seconds...
07:51They've just been a big RTC on the A43.
07:55...crashed and fled the scene.
07:58Now the interceptors are searching for the suspect, who could be seriously hurt.
08:03And there's a new lead.
08:05Yes, he went down there.
08:06Yes, he went down there.
08:11Little London Road.
08:12He's led it down in the past few minutes, the public have said.
08:15The tip-off steers the search toward a large farm nearby.
08:28Hello, it's the police.
08:31Needle in a haystack doesn't cover it, but every possible hiding place needs to be explored.
08:42Sadly not.
08:57Do we obviously want to find him to arrest him for what he's done?
09:01But his welfare as well.
09:03If he is carrying some injuries, you wouldn't think he's got very far, but then he's still probably wearing his adrenaline cloak, and that'll still be pumping through his body at the minute.
09:16Get it, get it, get it.
09:20Reinforcements are arriving to bolster the search.
09:24It's now a full-scale manhunt, with dog handler Dan Bradley-Brophy tracking through the fields.
09:31So he's carried on that way, by the way, the sounds of it.
09:36Plus, the police helicopter is flying in.
09:40While search teams on the ground and on high keep looking, Charlie has been called back to the crash site.
09:59There's not much left at the front of the Merc, but officers have made a discovery at the back.
10:04Having a cannabis nursery of 62 plants on board could be one of the reasons for the disappearing act.
10:15Whether he's on his way to a grow house, maybe somewhere to go and plant them and grow them more.
10:22I think he'll be somewhere along the cultivation chain.
10:25We might not have him, but we've got what he cares about.
10:32Magic.
10:32But it's not over yet.
10:35There's an update from the search team.
10:38I've got sight of him, let's go.
10:42Consumers have spotted a male that matches the description.
10:46Pop up from a hedge line along the carriageway.
10:50So now everyone is spinning back around.
10:52I want to get him now.
10:54The last known location of the suspect was near these horse stables.
10:58Can I go up to that fence up there?
11:03It's really wet.
11:05I'll risk it to find him.
11:07Thank you though.
11:07It's okay.
11:09You might need wellies and waders for this job.
11:13Now run it again, back towards the trees, climbing over a fence.
11:16There's a fresh sighting.
11:19Charlie is going in.
11:21Oh mate, this sink's really, really bad.
11:23Here we go.
11:24Once he's knee deep in a boggy field, the team get the update they've been hoping for.
11:30The runaway driver has been found.
11:42All copied.
11:44Very, very good work by everybody.
11:50Other than being soaking wet, covered in mud and a few scratches, he seems to be in fine fetal.
11:57That's right back.
11:58He's nicked for dangerous driving, dealing cannabis and driving without a license or insurance.
12:06The weed wagon he's wiped out doesn't even belong to him.
12:11I've been in shallower lakes than this.
12:13We got covered in, I've no idea what for the price of it, but I'm very happy.
12:20No one's come injured as a result.
12:23He's a dangerous driver, taken off the roads.
12:30We've recovered some drugs as a result.
12:32Um, uh, yeah, really good teamwork from everyone all around.
12:39Oh Christ.
12:40Back on dry land.
12:45Any luck?
12:46Yes, we got him.
12:47Oh, fantastic.
12:49There's time for a quick boot wash, then it's over to custody to meet their man.
12:53Why is it so difficult to stop when you're told to do so by the police?
13:03We'll never know, are we?
13:05Because I don't have a driving license.
13:07That's it.
13:07Who's called Saturday?
13:08He's just admitted to me in custody that he was a driver of the vehicle, asking me why.
13:25I was asking him to follow me into the services.
13:27So, uh, it's as good as a confession and we will, um, we'll look to charge him around him,
13:34hopefully, get him before the next available court.
13:38A running man found in a muddy field was convicted of driving dangerously,
13:43driving without a license or insurance and dealing cannabis.
13:48And he won't be able to outrun his sentence as he was locked up for nine months
13:51and banned from the roads for over 16 months.
14:03As well as reacting to evolving situations like the manhunt,
14:07the interceptors are also expertly trained at coming together as a team for pre-planned tactics.
14:15The operations department, which is traffic, firearms and the dog section,
14:20we do rely on each other.
14:22Putting a containment on a house, for instance,
14:24we always think about our colleagues as much as our own position.
14:28So, teamwork for us is, is, is key.
14:43Early doors on a Saturday morning.
14:48Dog handler Steve Knight is blue lighting to a job with the firearms team.
14:52Three men, uh, visited an address, uh, one with a machete, one with a baseball bat,
14:59third male, it's unknown if he was armed or not.
15:03It's just gone half past eight.
15:05Not your typical Saturday morning start.
15:11CCTV operators are tracking the allegedly armed group
15:14who have jumped in a car and travelled back to a house in Kettering.
15:20The hope is we're going to send the unmarked unit
15:22past to confirm the vehicle
15:25and an address that's possibly linked to it.
15:29Uh, once that's been established,
15:31the marked units will be called round
15:33and it'll be, uh, containment and call-out.
15:37So, in other words, contain the people within the address
15:39and call them out, uh, one by one.
15:43Good boy.
15:45Good lad.
15:47Due to the threat of lethal weapons like machetes,
15:51a large team of firearms cops are responding.
15:55SS, we're just pulling up to it now.
15:58Body cam rolling,
15:59armed interceptors in an unmarked car
16:02scope out the target address.
16:04Yeah, there's nobody in the vehicle team.
16:10If you just get yourselves settled,
16:11then I'll look to the container call out of the address.
16:14Marked firearms units and Steve move in.
16:17Right, we're just coming in to where the vehicle is.
16:26They're nearly ready to begin the contain and call-out operation.
16:31Good lad, wait.
16:32The elite team are trained to prepare for the unexpected.
16:38Our police have used us!
16:40Get out!
16:41A suspect appears.
16:42Come out of the address now!
16:44Thanks to lightning-quick reactions from the firearms team.
16:51Walk that way!
16:53Walk that way!
16:54The potentially armed suspect instantly has assault rifles,
16:58baton guns and taser trained on him.
17:01Contain, mate.
17:02Stop there.
17:03Get on your knees for me, mate.
17:06Not to mention the added deterrent of Steve
17:09with five-year-old German shepherd, Blue.
17:11Good lad.
17:12Good boy.
17:13Good boy.
17:14Should be too warm, according to this chap.
17:17All the muscles.
17:20Watch him.
17:24Watch him.
17:25Good lad.
17:26Good lad.
17:27One in cuffs.
17:28Are you all right to pull him out and then I'll get him out of the way and then we'll...
17:31I can see.
17:33I can see you inside of me, mate.
17:35The team continue the call-out.
17:38Come this way.
17:39Out now.
17:40You should be going to his own ring.
17:42Yeah.
17:42You just take him.
17:43I'll go.
17:44I'll go and take him.
17:45Get your hands up.
17:47Not there.
17:48Don't go round.
17:50Send him.
17:51Send him to them.
17:52Watch him.
18:02Suspect two is compliant.
18:05Armed police.
18:06Go to the front door.
18:08But suspect three, who could be armed...
18:11Matt, he's at the back of the address kitchen.
18:13...doesn't seem to be in a hurry.
18:15You, come out now.
18:18That should do the trick.
18:20He's coming to the front now.
18:22Stay there.
18:25Stay there.
18:25Listen to my colleague.
18:26Look at me.
18:26Walk this way.
18:28Go.
18:28Take him.
18:29Stop.
18:30Now turn around.
18:31Please hold him back.
18:32Take hold of people.
18:33You're so good.
18:35Do you have a customer?
18:35Yeah, I've got a customer.
18:40Do you see what I've seen now, mate?
18:42There's two dogs.
18:43They're both in the kitchen.
18:45Three suspects safely in cuffs.
18:48A textbook contain and call-out.
18:50So we had a report that people in this vehicle have been linked to being in possession of a baseball bat and a bladed article.
19:00All right?
19:00So that's why you've been detained, for that purpose.
19:03Okay.
19:03All right?
19:04All right, that's fine.
19:05We don't do the nice thing.
19:06There's a dog in the house, isn't there?
19:08We're not going to do anything to harm your dog.
19:10No, I'm just saying.
19:10You make sure it's in the house.
19:11You just shut up.
19:12Talk him for five minutes.
19:13Just shut up, bro, yeah?
19:14Just be quiet.
19:14Just get your mouth shut up.
19:15Some of the blokes seem a little cagey.
19:20Got anything on your toe, mate?
19:21Nothing at all, mate.
19:22It's very simple.
19:23No blokes out of him.
19:24No one come out.
19:25No.
19:28Blue, enough.
19:29Enough.
19:30Hey.
19:30Come here.
19:31Come here.
19:33The trio are taken in for questioning.
19:37Police dog Blue's work here is done.
19:41Blue.
19:41Good lad.
19:43Good lad.
19:43Stay.
19:45Good lad.
19:46Good boy.
19:48However, the operation is far from over.
19:52The initial report said three or four males.
19:56So what the firearms team now are conducting a deliberate search of the property,
20:00making sure there's nobody hidden in there.
20:03All right.
20:04Show me the magic.
20:05Deliberate search.
20:11Okay, search up right.
20:24In a finely tuned tactic...
20:27Clear right.
20:28...armed officers move through the house.
20:31On me.
20:33I can go left.
20:34On me.
20:35Clearing each room one by one.
20:38Hello.
20:39There's no one else in the property.
20:47Oh, on me.
20:49Only two pet dogs.
20:51If we leave you two down here to do downstairs, we'll go and do upstairs.
20:55There's nothing blaringly obvious.
20:57While the team turn their attention to searching for weapons...
21:03Hello.
21:06I've got to check to see if you've got some food and water.
21:08...dog's best friend, Nighty, is on hand to check on the pet's welfare.
21:12Yeah, I think you are thirsty after all that shouting.
21:15In Steve's 20 years on the front line, his proudest police moment is joining the dog section.
21:24But even without a canine companion by his side...
21:28...he's a dab hand at sniffing out potential evidence.
21:33Nighty, is it the handle or the...
21:35It's the handle of the pickaxe, Dave.
21:37Nighty, and a snooker cue.
21:41That'll probably be it then, won't it?
21:43If that's the case, then there is a pickaxe-type object here.
21:48Albeit minus the axe on the end of it.
21:51We'll seize that then, and we'll recover that.
21:54They haven't found any edge weapons, but what we have found...
21:57...a cricket bat, a pickaxe, stave...
22:00...and part of a pool cue.
22:03So all those items have been seized.
22:06Because they could be relevant.
22:07People see things, you know, in the heat of the moment...
22:10...and think it's one thing, don't they?
22:11So that's been seized.
22:13The house is cleared, locked up.
22:15Dogs have been fed and watered, all secure.
22:19Job done.
22:20By half nine on a Saturday morning, they're getting back on the road...
22:24...and Steve is happy with Blue's performance.
22:28Because of how dynamic that job was...
22:30...poor lad didn't get to have a ball as a reward...
22:35...so he's worked really hard for it.
22:38And in his little mind, he's got nothing for it.
22:41So we're going to give him a run-out.
22:44He'll have a couple of balls, Chucks.
22:48Suspects one and two were convicted of using violence...
22:51...to enter a property and public order offences.
22:55They were each given a 12-month community order...
22:58...and had to pay £199 in victim surcharge and costs.
23:03Suspect one was also guilty of having an offensive weapon in a public place...
23:08...and the pool cue was seized.
23:11No legal action was taken against suspect three.
23:14Yes, good lad.
23:17And police dog Blue went home happy.
23:22Yes, good boy.
23:23Good boy.
23:26Coming up...
23:27You need to blow, not set.
23:29...the breathalyser causes some bother.
23:32You understand the concept of blowing, yeah?
23:36And...
23:36That's it there.
23:37That was it.
23:38Well, a stop for no insurance ended a Porsche Taycan takeaway.
23:42The intel marker on things, it's 105 grand.
23:45Blimey.
23:466-0 go.
24:06Interceptors Sandra Payne and Chris Locke are responding to a Grade 1 emergency.
24:15We've got reports of a single-vehicle RTC up on the very north extremities of the county.
24:24It's driven into the centre of a roundabout.
24:27There's question marks over the driver being drunk or under the influence of something.
24:33But we'll head up there, see if we can get a hold of him and see what the story is.
24:39Eyewitnesses at the scene are speaking to the driver.
24:41The male was slurring his words, asking, don't call the police.
24:45Can you give me a lift?
24:46He has a bruised forehead, two bruises above each eye.
24:50He had his top off.
24:53It's a bit bloody chilly to be top off.
24:57Temperatures are hitting lows of 4 degrees.
24:59They urgently need to check on the topless driver's welfare.
25:05Looking at this, it looks like the male's actually run off into fields.
25:12It's just standing like a sore thumb.
25:13Reaching the crash site, Sandra gets the latest from a member of the public.
25:18Hello there.
25:22Hey.
25:23He's just up and over the brow there.
25:24He's come down a couple of times, I think.
25:26OK.
25:27And the only thing is I'm probably more worried for his health.
25:29Yeah, no worries.
25:29No worries.
25:30All right.
25:31No worries.
25:34The driver has ploughed into a roundabout and embedded his car in the undergrowth.
25:40With a fire crew on scene to tackle the potentially smouldering wreckage...
25:45Yeah, I think we're just going to relocate.
25:48The interceptor's priority is finding the driver who could have critical injuries.
25:53I just did that to get you over there.
25:57Oh, that'll be in there, then.
25:59One shirtless man wandering metres away from the roundabout wreck.
26:06Hello, fella.
26:07Hi, you all right?
26:08You need to stay where you are, buddy.
26:09All right.
26:10All right.
26:10I'm a bit worried about your welfare, because you're car avenue.
26:14Have I?
26:14Yes.
26:15Oh, yeah.
26:16OK.
26:18Where's hurting on you at the moment?
26:20Nowhere.
26:20Nowhere?
26:21No.
26:24Why are you, um, not clothed?
26:28What's happened this evening?
26:29I'm just having a walk.
26:29You're just having a walk?
26:30Yeah.
26:32Sandra's not convinced by the topless rambler's story.
26:35At this moment in time, I'm going to rest you on suspicion of section four, driving whilst
26:39unfit through drink or drugs.
26:41Just turn around to the front for me.
26:43OK?
26:44Because I want to make sure that...
26:45I'm not aggressive at all.
26:47No.
26:47I want to make sure that you're fitting well, and we need to go through a breath test procedure
26:50on the roadside, and smell alcohol on your breath.
26:53Let's come and get you sat in the car for the time being.
26:55Just mind this step.
27:00Nearly a fifth of all deaths on UK roads stem from collisions involving drunk drivers.
27:06Once this suspect is sitting comfortably, he'll be put to the test.
27:09Just take a seat in there for me, buddy.
27:13Mind your head.
27:13Ow.
27:14From advanced driver, teapack and stinger train to family liaison officer and even drone
27:23pilot, you name it, interceptor of 24 years, Sandra has done it.
27:31You need to blow, not suck.
27:33No, that's not long enough.
27:36It's fair to say she's carried out hundreds of breath tests in her career.
27:40Deep breath in, and seal your lips around the tube, and blow.
27:43No, don't block it.
27:44Don't block it.
27:46You're not blowing into the machine.
27:48More than enough to know when someone is not towing the line.
27:51Listen, there's no breath flow going through that tube, so you're blocking it with your
27:55tongue.
27:55No, I'm trying to.
27:55I've got asthma, so I'm trying to blow.
27:57That is not a reason not to blow into the machine.
27:59I'm trying to blow.
28:00I'm trying to blow.
28:00Okay.
28:01Deep breath in.
28:02Okay.
28:02Long, continuous breath into the machine.
28:04Blow.
28:06No, not long enough, not hard enough.
28:08Attempt three isn't a success, nor is attempt four.
28:14You're not helping yourself.
28:16I'm trying to blow.
28:17Attempt five.
28:18You understand the concept of blowing?
28:21Yeah?
28:22Blow.
28:22Or attempt six.
28:27What do you want from me?
28:28I've been blowing through the tube.
28:30Sandra has the patience of a saint.
28:33Right, listen to me.
28:35Open your mouth, seal your lips around the tube, do not block the tube with your tongue,
28:39and blow.
28:40Okay.
28:44You're not blowing.
28:45On the ninth, breathtakingly bad attempt, they're calling it.
28:50He's arrested for failing to provide.
28:53I'm pretty cold.
28:54Can I have a jumper, please?
28:55I'm afraid we don't carry spare jumpers.
28:58Not very good, is it?
28:59I'll certainly go and get you a space blanket to warm you up.
29:03There's nearly a repeat performance with the drug wipe test.
29:07Just stick your tongue out for me.
29:08A bit further.
29:10Further.
29:12Open your mouth and stick your tongue out.
29:15But Sandra manages to bag a sample of saliva.
29:18You could be doing, like, better things with your life.
29:21What, dealing with drunk drivers who are smashing into roundabouts?
29:25I'm not smashing into roundabouts.
29:29And tucks the suspect into the back of their car with a space blanket.
29:33Is there anything else that's hurting on you at the minute?
29:37I didn't raise one hand and I got punched in the face by a policeman, but...
29:42Okay, that didn't happen.
29:43I don't know.
29:44I feel like it did happen, but...
29:46If that's what you want to say, that's what you want to say.
29:48The suspect passes the drug wipe test.
29:54While he's safely detained and warming up, Chris turns his attention to the utter carnage at the crash scene.
30:00We've got exposed electrics on this roundabout, so can we put the call in for Street Doctor to come out, please?
30:08He's actually managed to take the entire streetlight, still upright, about 15 metres, across the carriageway onto the roundabout itself.
30:18The mangled BMW is completely destroyed.
30:23He's clearly carried some considerable speed into the roundabout to have taken a streetlight out and sheared it straight off.
30:32The whole bonnet's bent in.
30:34Lucky he's not injured other people or had passengers on board that have been seriously injured or hurt.
30:38But for him to be just walking and talking with minor head injuries, he's an incredibly lucky young man.
30:46Northamptonshire's luckiest man is still talking.
30:49And trying a change of tack.
30:51Someone taking my car.
30:54Excuse me.
30:56Yeah, and I've already told you, I'm not willing to discuss it any further.
30:59You're under arrest or suspicion of driving it.
31:01It's really someone taking my car.
31:05Although there is a silver lining to his behaviour.
31:09At least he's got the ability to be annoying, rather than being unconscious,
31:14needing medical attention from the fire crew for myself, waiting for ambulances to get him here,
31:18and potentially trying to just keep him alive.
31:21I've got to put him in the car a bit too aggressively.
31:24Okay, well that's fine.
31:24That's not going to prevent you getting out of the car, is it?
31:26Yeah.
31:28This is all being recorded.
31:29You're making yourself look stupid.
31:31Just get out of the car.
31:32I'm just having a good time.
31:34Yeah.
31:35But that tinfoilers make me feel like a bit of an alien.
31:39Without anyone to beam him up,
31:41Chris will be ferrying the suspected drink driver to hospital.
31:46Use your body heat to keep you warm.
31:47Once he's had a check-up, blood samples will be taken and tested for drink and drugs.
31:59Unsurprisingly, Northamptonshire's luckiest man didn't give a blood sample at hospital
32:04and later pleaded guilty for failing to provide.
32:08He was disqualified for driving for 30 months,
32:10ordered to do 200 hours of unpaid work and fined £199.
32:15On average, there are 300,000 uninsured vehicles using the UK's roads every day.
32:32It's such a widespread issue that the insurance companies fund the Motor Insurance Bureau
32:39about £500 million a year
32:42to assist people that have been involved in collisions with uninsured vehicles.
32:46The bottom line is it comes off everybody's insurance premiums.
32:50So, the more uninsured cars we take off the road, the safer everybody is
32:54and the smaller everybody's insurance premiums would be, in theory.
33:07When's that hit?
33:08A minute ago.
33:09Interceptor's Michael Holliwell and, in the driver's seat, Charlie Ward,
33:15are investigating an odd ANPR camera hit nearby.
33:19The market here says, yeah, it's got their insurance.
33:23On a Porsche Taycan?
33:24Yeah.
33:26I find that really hard to believe.
33:29Not insuring a pricey Porsche would be unusual,
33:32but stranger things have happened.
33:34So, Charlie and Michael make their way to a bridge over the M1.
33:40I'll get out, because it'll be easier.
33:43Whatever that's at you.
33:45The perfect viewpoint to spot the all-electric grey Porsche Taycan
33:49as it passes underneath them.
33:52Instead of showing them a torch directly at the driver's eyes,
33:55I'm shining it behind the vehicles just to get a read on the number plates.
34:00It's quite hard to see them.
34:01Although I reckon I could spot some Porsche headlights coming towards me.
34:06It'd be good if I could spot it before he did.
34:11It's a two-horse race.
34:20That's it there.
34:21That was it.
34:22That's it there.
34:25We'll call that a draw.
34:27Yep.
34:28That was definitely it.
34:31Hitting the gas.
34:36Such distinctive rear tail lights.
34:39They get behind the potentially uninsured high-performance motor.
34:45Nice car.
34:46Yeah.
34:48All done now.
34:49Yeah.
34:50Just in case it fails to stop.
34:52Pulling in front of the Porsche, Michael lights up the follow-me sign.
35:01Another intercept unit is also falling in behind,
35:04in case the suspect driver takes advantage of being able to hit 0 to 60 in under five seconds.
35:10It's dropped a long way.
35:15Why do they always do that?
35:17They just let off the gas, don't they?
35:20This is electric, though.
35:21It's got no gas.
35:22Yeah.
35:23It's indicated left, so...
35:26Luckily, whoever is at the helm of the Porsche's first all-electric sports car
35:31follows Charlie and Michael to the services.
35:33Hello, sir.
35:37How are you?
35:38I'm changing any problem.
35:39So we've got information to say that it's not been insured for quite a long time.
35:44The driver and passenger have paid £2,000 to hire the valuable vehicle
35:49and claim that insurance is included.
35:52Charlie takes a look at the documents.
35:55It's a rental agreement.
35:56It doesn't say...
35:57I see it says insurance at the bottom,
36:00but the car's not showing up on any policies.
36:05That is a policy.
36:06What is that is?
36:07I'll have a read through.
36:08It's not a policy, though, is it?
36:10It's a hire agreement.
36:12All car hire companies usually provide third-party cover as standard.
36:17If there's been a slip-up, the lads could find themselves in a tight spot
36:21and the luxury rental car will be seized.
36:24A car like this...
36:26I mean, I know it's a 71 plate, but it's still an expensive car.
36:28It's £100,000, £105,000.
36:30That's all they are.
36:31The Intel marker on the thing, so it's £105,000.
36:34Blimey.
36:37After some more digging with control, it's not good news.
36:41Yeah, it's not been insured since the 11th of the 4th,
36:45which is a month.
36:4611th of April?
36:47Yeah.
36:49There's been...
36:50This is for an Audi A3.
36:52Oh, sorry, sorry, sorry, yeah, man.
36:54But this is what it would look like for this car.
36:57Yeah, but...
36:58But...
36:58This vehicle has not been...
37:00This vehicle has not been insured...
37:02at all, on any policies, since the 11th of April.
37:09Interceptors will be taking the Porsche off the road.
37:12Okay, pass the key over.
37:15No, there's no one sitting.
37:16And the driver could be facing a fine, as well as six points on his licence.
37:23You're going to be a reporter for driving no insurance.
37:26What?
37:26Like, if you can prove it, like, there is actually a...
37:29Yeah, if you can prove that there's an insurance policy in place,
37:31then we won't take the ticket any further.
37:33We thought you were insured.
37:35No, no, I understand that.
37:36I do understand that.
37:38Whether these guys were innocent parties that have hired it,
37:41that might come out in the wash.
37:43But, yeah, it is pretty unusual for a car of that value
37:46not to show up on an insurance policy.
37:48So no matter whether it's a high-value vehicle such as this one
37:51or a low-value £100 banger,
37:54we're just enforcing the law, and everyone gets treated the same.
37:59While the occupants wait in the services for a lift,
38:03all that remains is the delicate operation
38:05of getting the pricey Porsche on the back of a recovery truck.
38:11That'll do you.
38:14Did you find the P-bunt?
38:15Yeah, yeah.
38:16And then the off-bunt.
38:17Well done.
38:21Well done, that man.
38:23Yes!
38:28The uninsured Taycan was taken off the road,
38:31but the case against the driver was later dropped at court.
38:40Still to come.
38:43A rookie mistake lands a driver in hot water.
38:46Why don't you start being honest
38:47before you just go to custody,
38:49because I'm getting sick of it.
38:49It's a busy Sunday night shift,
38:56and the radio is alight with incoming calls.
39:01It's a busy Sunday night shift,
39:14and the radio is alight with incoming calls.
39:17But as soon as interceptor Harrison Beverley starts blue-lighting to one incident,
39:31his next job pulls out in front of him.
39:35After appearing to pull in,
39:46a mini driver changes their mind
39:48and veers back in front of Harrison's marked BMW.
39:55It's got its hazards on as if it's going to pull over.
39:57They can barely stay in the right lane.
40:04Harrison calls it in.
40:07It's not stopping at the minute.
40:10The speed's only 3.5,
40:11and if it doesn't stop in the next ten seconds,
40:14I'll have to call it a fair stop.
40:18In the nick of time, the driver pulls over...
40:20...and stays over.
40:27Step out of the car for us.
40:29Put your handbrake on.
40:30Put your handbrake on.
40:31Step out of the car for me.
40:33They're not off to a good start.
40:35What was that about?
40:37Have you had a drink or something?
40:38Yeah, M-R-E-P.
40:39Step out of it.
40:39I'm right, it's about 29.
40:40I'm not supposed to step out.
40:42OK, you're under arrest for penance off at the minute.
40:43You don't have to say anything.
40:44May have defence for mention.
40:45I'm only about to stop.
40:46Some people shall outrun a car,
40:47and if you do so, maybe good evidence.
40:48Now you need to step out of the car for me, please.
40:51Queen van Harrison is highly skilled at detecting
40:54when someone isn't telling the whole truth.
40:57He's about to put this dodgy driver under pressure.
41:02Is it your vehicle?
41:03No, I'm one of my best mates.
41:06Does he know you've got it?
41:07Yeah, yeah.
41:08Have you got a full licence, upper original?
41:10Me?
41:11Yeah.
41:11I've got a full licence, but I don't know the...
41:14Oh, you've got a full licence?
41:16Although the 18-year-old claims to have a full driving licence,
41:19he quickly coughs to not having any insurance.
41:24Who's that in the passenger seat?
41:25That's me, mate.
41:27Is it his car?
41:28No, it's not his car.
41:29OK, so how do I know that this car hasn't been stolen?
41:32Er, well, I wouldn't really drive it if it was stolen.
41:35But after a check on the lad's details,
41:39it turns out he would drive it without a full licence.
41:44You've got a provisional, haven't you?
41:45You've got a provisional, though, yeah?
41:51So why don't you start being honest before you just go to custody,
41:53because I'm getting sick of it.
41:56Things are rapidly going from bad to worse for this lying lad.
42:00Hello, my name's Peter Beverley from the Rhodes Police team in Northampton.
42:03I'm with your vehicle at the minute, the Mini Cooper.
42:05And they could go downhill further
42:07if the Mini's mystery owner doesn't back up his story.
42:10Yeah, so what's the crack with it?
42:13Obviously, your mates have got it.
42:15Is it a case of you generally didn't know,
42:17or is it a case you want to make a report
42:19that it's being taken without your consent by your friends?
42:23His mate doesn't want to make a complaint.
42:25Your vehicle's now getting seized,
42:27the Section 165 Road Traffic Act,
42:29which means it's no insurance,
42:30because he's got no insurance to drive it.
42:33All I can say to you is
42:34don't give people permission to drive your vehicles.
42:38Very silly.
42:40It's going to cost the owner £192 to get the car back,
42:44plus another £26 for each day it's left in the yard.
42:49Whenever you're ready, just load to that shoe, please.
42:54There's zero alcohol involved in tonight's display.
42:57It's a simple case of driving lessons needed.
43:01Well, I was going to stop,
43:02and then I didn't really think it was safe to stop on that road sort of thing.
43:06Obviously, I can see you've got your hazards on,
43:08but the fact that you pulled back into my path when I was going past,
43:11it nearly wiped me out.
43:12Yeah, I don't really know sort of thing.
43:16I sort of went to...
43:17Do you think the fact you don't know
43:19is because you haven't got a licence?
43:21No, I've been on the road for ages.
43:23I've ride motorbikes and everything,
43:24but I've pulled over to...
43:25The fact that you've got a prison licence,
43:27you haven't proved you can pass your test, yeah?
43:29If we'd have squeezed against something,
43:30we'd have been nowhere to go.
43:32Yeah, yeah.
43:33After some food for thought,
43:35Harrison de-arrests the teenager for failing to stop
43:38and reports him for driving without a licence or insurance.
43:43I know it makes having a laugh,
43:45but...
43:45Yeah, nah, but...
43:46They have consequences, yeah?
43:48One consequence they will face tonight
43:51is having to find a Lyft home.
43:54I think it's probably hit every single thing it can.
43:58It's dense everywhere.
44:01Mr Bump's motor comes complete with some questionable rules.
44:05I think just getting shut up and hold on,
44:07I think that sums it up to you, sir.
44:09Poor passenger, probably.
44:09That's what he was thinking the whole time.
44:14The mini driver pleaded guilty
44:15to driving without a licence or insurance.
44:19He was ordered to pay £314 in fines and costs
44:22and he received eight penalty points
44:25on his provisional licence.
44:26The mini driver was recorded
44:38in the final negative
44:40with a 90-year-old reference
44:40at all later,
44:41the passé in the 90s
44:41and his switch
44:42will carry the abuse
44:43at all later,
44:44or maybe a little bit
44:46once they win.
44:47Or maybe a loser
44:47or money leads
44:48or a little bit
44:49with a gym
44:50or anything
44:51a little bit
44:52except he's
44:52had their favourite
44:52some Chip
44:53that came to
44:54the whole province
44:55of the romance
44:55and using
44:55Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
