00:00Today was the most painful day I've experienced throughout my surgery recovery.
00:04I am getting my final reconstructive surgery tomorrow that I have waited 13 years for.
00:09I was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease known as Perry-Romberg syndrome in first grade.
00:14How it works is my immune system gets confused and attacks the flesh on one side of my face.
00:19This procedure is much higher risk than any surgery I've had in the past,
00:23and I will have to stay in the hospital for about a week.
00:25But this surgery is just the start of his journey.
00:27Hello everybody, it's morning number one after the transplant, and I feel absolutely terrible.
00:33I barely got any sleep last night, and my face hurts really bad,
00:37and the spot where they took the muscle from hurts really bad as well.
00:40As expected, the surgery has some side effects that can take months to recover from.
00:45I also won't be able to walk after the surgery because they're going to use a piece of my leg muscle to fill in my face.
00:51They actually did this on purpose because, as you can imagine, it's way easier to remove tissue than to add more.
00:56The final result should look pretty good.
00:58It has officially been one week since my free flap surgery, and here's how I'm doing.
01:03At my appointment this afternoon, my surgeon removed all of the bolsters and stitches from my face.
01:08He also said that he's very pleased with how I'm healing up,
01:10and the best thing that I can do for my recovery right now is just to take it easy.
01:13Right now, my face is actually completely numb, to the point where it doesn't even feel like it's a part of me.
01:19It does feel pretty tight right now, but thankfully, it doesn't really hurt at all.
01:23It has officially been two weeks since my free flap surgery, and here's how I'm doing.
01:27My leg is pretty inflamed right now, but without the drain in, I can walk so much easier than I could before.
01:33But as far as the appearance, I think my surgeon did an amazing job, and it pretty much turned out as well as it could have.
01:38One month in, the side effects are getting much worse, but the pain won't stop Lucas' amazing recovery.
01:44Here's an update for how I'm doing one month after my free flap surgery.
01:48At this point, the results are starting to set in, and I think it looks really good, and it's only going to continue to get better by the day.
01:54Overall, I'm not experiencing any pain, but it is still pretty difficult to walk right now.
01:59Today, I started physical therapy for my leg, and it was a little rough because my leg is still incredibly stiff.
02:04However, I am completely pain-free, and I'm getting more of my mobility back every day.
02:09I woke up today at 6am with a fever of 104, and my leg hurt so bad that I couldn't even move it.
02:15My doctor put me on a few new medications, and I feel pretty good now, but I'm not sure how long it's going to last.
02:21The hardest part of my recovery is behind me, but my face is still completely numb, and my left leg is about 30% weaker than my right leg.
02:29I am making good progress, but it's still probably going to be 3-4 months before I feel completely back to normal.
02:35At this point, my face is still completely numb, but I'm not experiencing any pain in either my leg or my face.
02:41My surgeon finally cleared me to go back to the gym, so I've been working hard to build my strength back up, especially in my left leg.
02:48Lucas looks completely different, and considering the depths of his surgery, he's making an amazing recovery in regards to walking again.
02:55We are so glad that Lucas is doing so well since his surgery.
