00:00New York City has its first Muslim and first socialist mayor.
00:0534-year-old Zoram Mamdani defeated both former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo
00:09and Republican Curtis Sliwa.
00:12Two million New Yorkers cast their vote,
00:14the largest turnout for a mayoral race since 1969.
00:19Despite concerns by some that Mamdani's anti-policing
00:22and tax the rich platform would drive businesses from America's largest city,
00:27he's officially taking a victory lap.
00:29But now comes the hard part, actually governing.
00:33Will New Yorkers get free buses and subsidized groceries paid for
00:36with huge tax increases on the rich?
00:39We shall see.
00:39Across the Hudson River to another closely watched race.
00:42In New Jersey, Democrat Mikey Sherrill beat her Republican rival Jack Cittarelli,
00:46even with polls tightening to a razor-sharp margin as Election Day approached.
00:51She made her campaign a vote against President Trump,
00:54which resonated with enough voters to make her the first female Democrat
00:57to lead the Garden State.
00:58And in another statewide race with national interest,
01:01Democrat Abigail Spanberger bested Republican Winsome Earl Sears
01:04to win the governor's seat in Virginia.
01:06She's the first woman governor of the Commonwealth.
01:09Also in the Old Dominion, the much-talked-about attorney general's race
01:13was won by Democrat Jay Jones.

01:21where he fantasized about violence toward his Republican rivals back in 2022.
