The United States has destroyed another vessel allegedly carrying drugs in the eastern Pacific, following direct orders from President Donald Trump. The US operations in South American waters have killed at least 66 people with 16 separate strikes.
Footage released on Tuesday shows the small craft cruising before the missile hits, engulfing it in flames. The date and place of filming can't be independently verified.
Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said the 'lethal kinetic strike' came after intelligence confirmed the boat was smuggling narcotics for a terrorist group. Two alleged 'narco-terrorists' were killed, but no US troops were hurt.
The latest strike follows the departure of the USS Gerald R. Ford from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean, joining a growing US buildup of aircraft, ships, and troops in Latin America after Hegseth ordered the deployment more than a week ago.
The operation is part of Trump's wider campaign of using military force to stop narcotics heading for US shores.
Critics, including the UN and rights groups, warn it may be an unlawful killing under international law.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro condemned the attack as 'murder,' saying Washington offered no proof.
