Democrats are dominating the first major Election Day since President Donald Trump returned to the White House. A debate about the future of the Democratic Party may have only just begun, but there are signs that the economy — specifically, Trump’s inability to deliver the economic turnaround he promised last fall — may hurt the Republican Party for the foreseeable future.

00:07Democrats have been declared the winners in three top races.
00:11The Associated Press determined that Democrats had won the gubernatorial contest in Virginia
00:16and in New Jersey, as well as the New York City mayor's race.
00:23In New York City, Democrat Zoran Mamdani, who's described himself as a Democratic Socialist,
00:29beat out several contenders.
00:32The 34-year-old's digitally-focused campaign has garnered a lot of attention,
00:36not just in the U.S., but internationally,
00:39as he has spoken a lot about bringing down prices
00:42and improving the economy for residents of America's largest metropolis.

00:53In Virginia, Democrat Abigail Spanberger beat out her Republican contenders.
