Zohran Mamdani’s victory in New York has sparked an emotional response among Uganda’s youth, who see in him a symbol of possibility and a reminder of their country’s untapped potential. Many young Ugandans say Mamdani’s rise proves that leadership has no age limit — and that change must come from their own generation. His success abroad is now being seen as both an inspiration and a challenge to Uganda’s leaders to create more opportunities for the nation’s restless, unemployed youth.

00:28I'm very vocal about my biggest challenges with Uganda, especially the young people being
00:34the attitude, the discourse, the conversations we have, we are not serious as a nation like
00:42we need to do, and I really hope having people like Mamdani taking leadership in big cities
00:48like New York could change something among the young people in Uganda to actually come
00:52to the understanding that you know, being born in Uganda, you can actually make good things,
00:58and if there's anyone who is going to change this country, it really has to be as the younger
01:01generation.
01:22I think what the young people can pick from this story is that there's no time for, there's
01:38no time limit to becoming a leader and taking up these big positions. A lot of young people
01:45in Uganda sort of leave leadership to the generation ahead of them, but now is the time for us
01:52to step up and be part of the conversation, especially those that are going to shape the
01:58future of our country, Uganda.
02:00Our biggest challenge as the youth of Uganda is unemployment. And seeing Mamdani advocating
02:20for the same, advocating to create more opportunities for the youths in the US should now inspire
02:27our leaders back home here to create more opportunities for the youths in Uganda.
