Queensland punters gather for the horse race to outdo their Victorian counterpart

More than 1800 kilometres from all the action, punters across the state embraced the day in their own unique way. From glamourous trackside looks to eye-catching frocks - once again Queenslanders upstaging our southern neighbours.

00:14Despite the gloomy grey skies, top hats were donned and so were the matching fits.

00:20It's a bit of an embarrassment to wear but if you're together then it sticks us together.

00:27We make friends because we're ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous.

00:31Happy to make friends with everyone.

00:34And it turns out that half yours is actually half ours given it trained on the Sunshine Coast.

00:42Another winner that was prepared here during the winter.

00:45So it's basically three years in a row the Melbourne Cup winner has been here during the winter beautiful Sunshine Coast weather.

00:51But all eyes weren't just on the horses.

00:54Queensland's premiership power couple brought the heat to Eagle Farm.

00:59For us Queenslanders it's nice and warm so you can enjoy the climate and get out there and just have some fun.

01:09Dressed to impress, punters frocked up in their best and brightest and for many this is the main event.
