00:00Rescue operations are underway after a medieval tower partially collapsed in Rome,
00:21trapping a worker amid the debris.
00:22Authorities say the collapse occurred near the Coliseum and they're trying to get that worker
00:30out alive. However, the risk of further collapse is making the situation dangerous. Portions of
00:36the tower fell to the ground twice, approximately 90 minutes apart. And that second collapse occurred
00:42while firefighters were attempting to gain access to the structure, but no rescue personnel were
00:48hurt. Officials say the trapped man survived that second collapse. Another worker has been pulled
00:54from the debris and is reportedly in serious condition, and two others suffered minor injuries
01:00but both refused further medical treatment, according to reports. The exact cause of the
01:05collapse is unclear, but the tower had suffered damage from earthquakes in the 14th and 17th
01:11centuries. The tower had been undergoing renovations slated to be completed next year, and the area
01:17around the 13th century tower has been closed off to the public during the construction project.
01:23The building had not been in use since 2006 when it served as an office space.
