00:00Fluto, hello, sir.
00:02Good morning, Fred.
00:03Good morning.
00:04Thank you so much for joining us.
00:06What have the Bruins been doing right over the last three games
00:09as they've won the last three?
00:11Of course, the points, the last three games.
00:14But, Fred, I would really dial it down to the last game against Carolina,
00:19that 2-1 win.
00:21That was the first time all season that I saw them,
00:25that I bought what they were selling in terms of how they want to play,
00:31which is stingy, smart, tough, hard to play against,
00:38limiting chances against a varsity team in Carolina.
00:42Nobody would be surprised if that team is playing deep into June.
00:47So you consider all the variables that were involved with that game,
00:51how they played, of course, the results.
00:54Okay, you're missing Lynn Holm.
00:56That's a pretty big checkmark against.
01:01But they didn't have to rely on the goaltending for once in a long time.
01:07Like the Buffalo game, yes, that was a win the previous game,
01:11but they did not play well.
01:13This game, game 14, everything added up.
01:17And if they play like that, they have a chance to make the playoffs
01:22just because of the style and the opponent.
01:26And I think they have some belief now, the players,
01:30that, okay, the coach has put in something good,
01:33and if we execute, then we're going to be in good shape.
01:36Okay, so can you kind of take us through what you saw in that particular game?
01:39Like what were they doing?
01:41Because I read your article about that.
01:45Like how is that style of play?
01:47Can you kind of describe it to us?
01:48Sure, yeah, it starts in the defensive zone, time and space.
01:52Now, Marco has instituted more of a – it's a hybrid zone system.
01:57So basically what it is, if the puck is higher in the offensive zone,
02:01on the perimeters in previous years, the Bruins would be like, okay, that's okay.
02:05We'll just let them have it.
02:07Marco says, no, we want to pursue and gain puck possession.
02:11So what do they do?
02:12They play man-to-man, high in the offensive zone.
02:14That's a big change and with no switches.
02:17So you stick with your man wherever he is in the zone.
02:20And you can see it just was not happening for pockets over the first dozen games or so.
02:26Then when the puck goes low, it's up against the walls or in a dangerous place,
02:30and they have an opportunity to really swarm.
02:34Then you go into zone and you can outnumber the puck.
02:37So it's just been stops and starts and stops and starts in terms of how they want to play,
02:44how they grasp.
02:45It's like I remember the – like you guys maybe remember the one play.
02:49I can't remember the opponent.
02:51But Lorai and McAvoy both go after the guy in the corner,
02:54and there's a guy wide open in front.
02:55Boom, that's it.
02:57We just saw that so many times.
02:58This, you saw, okay, especially against Carolina, which loves to shoot,
03:05that they were so good in terms of closing quickly,
03:09taking away the middle of the ice, protecting that net front, and having layers.
03:14All those pieces really added up.
03:17And really, maybe two, three quality chances for Carolina all game,
03:22one on the power play.
03:24That's really, really good for an opponent.
03:26That's really good for an opponent.
