00:00If you're game for anything, you're totally in the right place.
00:04These players are revving up for thrills, chills, and spills as they try to become zookeeper for a day.
00:13From the world-famous San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park in sunny California,
00:18it's time for another Animal Planet Zoo Venture.
00:22So get ready for the wildest game around, because we're about to rock, roll, and rumble through the jungle
00:33on today's Animal Planet Zoo Venture.
00:47What's up, everybody? Welcome to the show. I'm J.D. Roth.
00:51This is Zoo Venture. It's a game about animals, a game about competition.
00:55Oh, yeah, and we're also going to have a lot of fun today.
00:57Everybody walks home a winner, but one lucky player is going to be zookeeper for a day.
01:02I'm talking feeding the giraffes and having a blast in the zoo.
01:05Let's get busy. Here comes our first two players, Kenny and Julia.
01:09Come on in here, guys. What's going on? Are you guys ready to play?
01:14Yes!
01:15Good. They look pumped up. Now, our first game is called Gorilla Grab.
01:19Now, did you guys know that when gorillas turn their back on you, they're actually trying to be polite?
01:24Did you know that?
01:25Yeah.
01:26In fact, let's turn our back on everybody.
01:27We're turning our back on everyone because they're trying to be polite.
01:29Now, this is how the game actually works.
01:31See, gorillas in the zoo turn their back so that they're being polite.
01:34Your job is to feed the gorillas.
01:36So all you need to do is grab a piece of fruit right in the bin here, use the slingshot, and feed the gorillas.
01:41You can see these guys down there. They're actually so polite, they're hiding behind trees.
01:45Whoever feeds the gorilla the most food in 45 seconds is going to win.
01:50Let's set the clock for 45. Whoa, whoa. Here we go. Get into position.
01:54Here's your first piece of fruit. Whoever gets the most is going to win.
01:57On your mark, get set, go.
02:03Oh, nice job.
02:05Julia gets the first one in. Way to go. Oh.
02:09You got to shoot him really hard and really high.
02:12There we go.
02:14All right, he's got one. That gives him one. She's already got two though.
02:17She's got some serious good aim.
02:23All right, keep it going. Oh, nice job. Bullseye.
02:26All right. Keep it going.
02:34Work it, guys. Work it.
02:39Go, go, go.
02:43Nice job.
02:47That's it. That's it. That's it. That's it.
02:49Good job. Spin around here. Let's find out how you did.
02:51Kenny was having a little trouble towards the end.
02:53You were pulling it and the ball seemed to be rolling back at you.
02:55Let's find out how you did. I count one, two, three for you.
02:59Good job. Did you have fun?
03:02You were shooting that thing pretty hard.
03:04You need more than three to win. Let's find out how well you did.
03:07One, two, three, four. I think there's either four or five, which is more than three.
03:11So you're our winner. Nice job.
03:14You get the ten points. Way to go.
03:16All right, you guys ready to play another game?
03:17Yeah.
03:18All right, let's head on back then. Come on.
03:20I love that. A little gorilla grabbing. You know what I mean?
03:25Food was flying everywhere. Let's get the scoop right now on Julia. How are you?
03:29Pretty good.
03:30Julia, you look like the type of person who may have some strange animals at home. Am I right?
03:35It's just kind of a premonition thing going here.
03:37Pretty strange.
03:38Like what?
03:39Like koi fish, crawdads, and goldfish and cats and dogs, which aren't very strange, but koi fish are...
03:44What's a crawdad?
03:46Crawdad is related to the lobsters.
03:48And what do you feed a crawdad?
03:50All the stuff that's at the bottom of the pond.
03:52Anything that's at the bottom of the pond, you feed a crawdad.
03:55What's your crawdad's name?
03:56Claws.
03:57Claws, the crawdad?
03:59All right, good luck on the show, Julia. Nice job.
04:01Kenny, I think you might have some strange animals at home too.
04:04Just another ESP thing we got working here. Do you?
04:07Yeah.
04:08Like what?
04:09I have a pig. I have two dogs and two cats.
04:12Any sisters or brothers?
04:14Um, nope.
04:15Because that would be a weird animal too. What's your pig's name?
04:18My pig's name is Piggles.
04:21Piggles the pig and...
04:23Claws the crawdad.
04:24And Claws the crawdad.
04:25All right, let's give it up for both of our players. Nice job.
04:28Now that we know our players, it's time for our next game.
04:31This is a zoo view that's going to test their animal IQ.
04:34We're going to show them a clip about an animal and then ask a multiple choice question.
04:38Now remember guys, think quickly on your feet. Be the first one to buzz in.
04:42We have three questions.
04:43Whoever gets the most out of three is going to get the ten points.
04:46All right, so far Julia's in the lead with ten.
04:48Here comes your first question, guys, okay?
04:50Which of the tiger's senses are used when stalking their prey?
04:55Is it A, their hearing, B, their vision, or C, both hearing and vision equally?
05:03Kenny.
05:04Hearing and vision equally.
05:05Nice job.
05:06C it is.
05:07The guy's serious about his work.
05:08That's one right, okay?
05:10If he gets another one right, he wins the ten points.
05:12Here comes your next question.
05:14Baby giraffes are one of the few animals born with what?
05:17Is it A, Julia?
05:19Um, a black tongue?
05:21No.
05:22Kenny, I'm going to give you the three choices.
05:24A, a belly button, B, horns, or C, full-sized teeth.
05:28This is for the game.
05:29If you get it right, you tie the score.
05:31Horns.
05:32Horns is right, Kenny.
05:33Nice job.
05:34Way to go.
05:35That gives Kenny ten points.
05:38Julia's got ten points.
05:39We got a tie score.
05:40We got one more game worth 20 points.
05:42We're going to break that tie.
05:44Send someone to the Zoofari Challenge.
05:46Make sure you stay with us.
05:47Now, before we go to commercial, I got a chance to go hang out with the animals, and it was awesome.
05:52Take a look at what I got to see.
05:54All right, here we are at the lion exhibit at the San Diego Zoo.
05:57I'm with somebody who really knows how to roar.
06:00Zookeeper Andrea, how are you?
06:01Fine, thanks.
06:02Two huge lions.
06:03Now, these guys are the king of the jungle, right?
06:06Well, actually, that's not exactly so.
06:08They don't live anywhere near jungles, so they're actually the king of the grasslands.
06:11Now, who does the hunting out there?
06:13Well, if you see the big mane that these two males have, it's actually going to distract the prey.
06:18If they're going to be rustling in the bushes, they're not going to be able to sneak up as easily.
06:22So, it's the females that don't have the big mane that can really sneak up and do all that hunting.
06:26They bring it back, and then they get to eat first.
06:28Unbelievable.
06:29You know what I mean?
06:30The females do all the work, just like in real life.
06:32That's right.
06:33Except on this show, where I do all the work.
06:35We'll be back right after this, so stay with us on Zoo Venture.
06:43We are back on a spectacular day at the San Diego Zoo.
06:47The score is tied, ten points apiece.
06:49We are ready to play the final game in round one.
06:52Our players are psyched, I can tell.
06:54This game is going to decide which one of them is going to mix it up into the zoo fari challenge.
06:58The next game is zoo out of three.
07:00We've got three animals.
07:01One of them is going to be the right answer.
07:03First player to correctly answer three questions is going to win the 20 points and break the tie.
07:08Today's animals are coming up on your monitor right now.
07:11Take a look.
07:12First one is the snow leopard.
07:15The second one, the golden marmoset.
07:18And last but not least, the poison arrow frog.
07:21Are you guys ready?
07:22Remember, whoever gets three first is going to win, okay?
07:24All right, here comes your first question.
07:26What animal would give a high-pitched shriek when frightened?
07:30Kenny.
07:31The marmoset?
07:33Yeah, that's right.
07:34Nice job.
07:35That's one right, buddy.
07:36You get two more, you win, okay?
07:38Here comes your next question.
07:39Which animal could chow down on both meat and plants because it's an omnivore?
07:44Julia.
07:45The leopard?
07:46No, the leopard's not right.
07:47Kenny, do you have an answer?
07:48The marmoset, I mean, the poison arrow frog.
07:51No, that's not right.
07:52Guess what?
07:53You should have gone with your first instinct, buddy.
07:55It was the marmoset.
07:56I can't give any points there.
07:57We'll go to the next question.
07:58Which animal's tail is about three feet long?
08:03Kenny.
08:04The marmoset?
08:05No, it's actually, well, Julia, do you want to guess?
08:08Go for it.
08:09The frog?
08:11No, it's actually the leopard.
08:13We'll keep going here.
08:14We know who's winning so far.
08:15Kenny's got one right.
08:16Which animal is an amphibian?
08:19Julia.
08:20The frog.
08:21The frog is right.
08:22Nice job.
08:23That gives you one.
08:24Way to hang in there.
08:25We got a tie so far.
08:26Which animal lives in the Himalayan mountains?
08:29Julia, again.
08:31The leopard.
08:32The leopard is right.
08:33You take the lead with two, Julia.
08:35One more, you win the game and break the tie, okay?
08:38All right, guys, here we go.
08:39Which animal's babies are called tadpoles?
08:42Kenny.
08:43The frog.
08:44The frog is right to tie the game.
08:46Here's the deal.
08:47We've got to tie two points apiece.
08:49Whoever gets the next question right wins the game, breaks the tie, and goes to the zoo
08:54fari challenge.
08:55All right.
08:56Everyone keep quiet.
08:57Here comes your question.
08:58What animal's canine teeth are similar to the saber-toothed tigers?
09:02Julia for the game.
09:03The leopard.
09:04The leopard is right.
09:05Nice job.
09:06You're going to the zoo fari challenge.
09:07Way to go.
09:08Hey, Kenny, it came down to the last question.
09:11You just didn't get in there in time.
09:13Thanks a lot for playing, though, okay?
09:15We got some cool prizes.
09:16Take a look.
09:17Geo Safari Electronic Learning Game.
09:19An exciting game of knowledge for one or the whole group.
09:23Education made fun.
09:24Geo Safari Electronic Learning Game from Educational Insights.
09:27Let's give it up again for Kenny.
09:29Let's hear it for him.
09:30Good work.
09:31What do you think, Julia, that last one?
09:34Did you just know the answer to it, or was it a guess?
09:36I knew the answer.
09:37Well, all right, then.
09:38Guess what?
09:39You're going to the zoo fari challenge because of it.
09:41We'll see you at the end of the show, okay?
09:43Head off that way.
09:44Let's hear it for Julia.
09:45Nice job.
09:46What do you say we bring out two more players and have a little more fun?
09:50Let's bring out Jamie and Lauren.
09:52Come on.
09:53Let's go, guys.
09:56Oh, yeah.
09:57You must be Lauren.
09:59Yeah.
10:00I'm great.
10:01What do you like to do in your spare time?
10:03I like to swim.
10:04And have you had any success swimming?
10:06Yeah.
10:07I've won a couple of awards.
10:08No kidding?
10:09Like what?
10:10Well, I've won eighth place in breaststroke and I think that's it.
10:15Well, awesome job.
10:16Good for you.
10:17Keep swimming, all right?
10:18Good luck on the show.
10:19You must be Jamie.
10:20Yes.
10:21Jamie, do you have any animals at home?
10:22Yes.
10:23Besides brothers and sisters, what do you have?
10:25Three dogs, three cats, a goat, three rabbits, seven birds, a guinea pig, and a lot of fish.
10:34Are you the San Diego Zoo?
10:35No.
10:37That's unbelievable.
10:38Who takes care of all these animals?
10:39The whole family.
10:40That's incredible.
10:41What's the goat's name?
10:42Rosie.
10:43Rosie.
10:44What kind of pet is a goat?
10:45Um, it's a good pet.
10:47It's like, um, it's kind of like a dog.
10:50It follows you around.
10:51Really?
10:52I always thought of a goat as a dog.
10:54All right.
10:55Good luck on the show, all right?
10:56Let's hear from both of our players.
10:57Awesome job.
10:58She swims.
10:59He's got a zoo at home.
11:00All right.
11:01We're ready for our next game.
11:02You know what our next game is called?
11:04Habitat hockey.
11:05Now, one of the most important jobs a zookeeper has is actually cleaning up the habitats.
11:10You guys are trying to be zookeeper for a day, so they're going to clean up the habitat.
11:13They're going to hose out all the food and stuff.
11:15Now, we've got a piece of fruit right here.
11:17We're going to put it right up here like this.
11:19You guys are each going to have a hose.
11:21You're going to use your hose to try and move that piece of fruit to the opponent's
11:25goal line.
11:26You get it across, that's one point.
11:27Whoever gets the most points after 45 seconds is going to win.
11:31Let's set the clock for 45.
11:32Are you guys ready?
11:33Yeah.
11:34Time to play a little habitat hockey.
11:35Let's do it then.
11:36Get into position.
11:37On your mark, get set, go!
11:42Let me tell you, this is tough.
11:44It's slipped, sliding away, habitat hockey.
11:47It looks like Jamie's got it on the run a little bit.
11:50Oh, nice job.
11:51That's one.
11:52Keep it going, keep it going, keep it going.
11:54You got to try to get as many as you can.
11:57Go for it.
11:5830 seconds left.
12:00I'll tell you what, Jamie is on fire here.
12:02Splay him in the face.
12:04Splay him in the face and throw him off.
12:06Jamie.
12:07Jamie.
12:08Spray him in the face.
12:10Try to throw his concentration off a little bit.
12:13There you go.
12:14There you go.
12:15That's it.
12:16What you want to do is try and throw his concentration off.
12:19Just enough.
12:20But I'll tell you what, the guy's got tons of concentration.
12:23He knows what he's doing.
12:25He's already got two.
12:28That's it.
12:29That's it.
12:30That's it.
12:31Time's up.
12:32Time is up.
12:33Come on over here.
12:34Let's find out how well you did.
12:36Come on over here.
12:37Buddy, you were on fire.
12:39You were going crazy like that.
12:41Let's go to a slow-mo and check this guy out.
12:43On this replay, you can really see how tough this is.
12:47Oh, wow.
12:48That's awesome.
12:49Unbelievable.
12:50All right.
12:51That was an awesome job.
12:52But guess what, my friend?
12:53She was spraying you in the face the whole time.
12:54You don't even have your goggles down.
12:55You could have been prepared for action.
12:56He actually got three of them all the way across.
12:57How many did you get?
12:58You didn't get any.
12:59But did you have fun?
13:00Yes.
13:01That's all that matters.
13:02He gets the ten points.
13:03When we get back, we're going to monitor how they're doing, play some more games, and have
13:04a great time.
13:05So stay with us on Two Mention.
13:06How many did you have fun?
13:07Yes.
13:08That's all that matters.
13:09He gets the ten points.
13:10When we get back, we're going to monitor how they're doing, play some more games, and
13:13have a great time.
13:14So stay with us on Two Mention.
13:16How many have you been back?
13:24We are right in the middle of round two.
13:27Now you saw Jamie playing Habitat Hockey like a madman.
13:30That gave him the ten points, but Lauren is still in there.
13:33Now remember, whoever wins this round is going to play Julia.
13:35She was the winner of round one to see who becomes zookeeper for the day.
13:40Now we've got two untamed players, eight mind-bending questions, and nine tremendously wild things
13:45on the board.
13:46Let's take a look at them right now.
13:47Snow Leopard, Sea Cow, Groundhog, Honey Queen, Hooves, Antlers Australia, and Swan.
13:54Alright, we're going to give you guys 30 seconds.
13:56Buzz in if you know the correct answer.
13:58Whoever gets the most points in 30 seconds is going to win.
14:01I just heard the clock is set so we can rock and roll.
14:03You guys ready?
14:04Here comes your first question.
14:06What do you call the bee that lays eggs?
14:09Lauren.
14:10The queen?
14:11The queen is right.
14:12What cat can leap 50 feet?
14:15Jamie.
14:16The snow leopard.
14:17Puts you on the board.
14:18Good job.
14:19The woodchuck also goes by what name?
14:21Jamie.
14:22Groundhog.
14:23Groundhog for the lead.
14:24Yes.
14:25Cygnets are the young of what bird?
14:28Jamie.
14:29Swan.
14:30Swan is right.
14:31Where did you come from?
14:32Lauren.
14:33Australia.
14:34Australia's right.
14:35What's another name for the aquatic mammal, the manatee?
14:37Oh, time is up.
14:38Lauren, you had two.
14:39Jamie, you had three.
14:40You win the game.
14:41Nice job.
14:42Now, that gives Jamie 20 points.
14:46We still have one more game that's also worth 20 points.
14:50So grab your helmets.
14:51It's time to go on a field trip to the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park.
14:55Let's go, guys.
14:56Field trip time.
14:58Come on over here.
15:00Come here, Jamie.
15:01Here's the deal with this game, all right?
15:03We're going to show them a video.
15:04They're going to have to pay attention to the facts because when we come out of the video,
15:07you're going to match the facts to the correct animal.
15:10All right?
15:11You're going to get a chance to see the video right now.
15:12Turn around.
15:13It's coming on the monitor.
15:14Time for a field trip.
15:15Take a look at these fabulous feet.
15:24This is an African jacana, and they're found in the marshland area, and they have very large
15:31feet with long toes to walk on the lily pads on top of the water.
15:35And they're looking for insects.
15:37I've never seen them trip over their own feet, but I'm sure it happened.
15:42This is a tamandua, and they're found in the rainforest of South America.
15:46They have incredibly long front claws that they use to tear apart ant and termite mounds
15:51to find their food and also as a defense mechanism.
15:54If you don't have any teeth, you can't bite anybody, but you can pinch them, and that hurts pretty bad.
15:59Tapers are related to hippopotamus and actually horses, and their feet are partially hooved.
16:06They have four toes in the front and three in the back, and they spread out slightly to help them move
16:11through the rainforest, which is where they'd be found in the wild.
16:17All right.
16:18Nice job, guys.
16:19Now, you saw that video.
16:20There's a whole bunch of facts on there, right?
16:22Now, we have six choices of facts, actually seven.
16:24One of them is not correct.
16:26We're going to give you guys 15 seconds to match the facts to the animals.
16:29You ever play checkers with your dad?
16:30Yeah.
16:31When you take your hand off the checker, what happens?
16:33The move is official.
16:34It's official.
16:35Same way on this board.
16:36When you take your hand off it, it's official.
16:38You can't move it, okay?
16:39Let's set the clock for 15.
16:41Whoever gets the most correct on their animals is going to win the 20 points, okay?
16:46She could come back and tie here, so this is important.
16:48All right.
16:49On your mark, get set, go.
16:52You're over here.
16:53You're over here.
