00:00This is Bill. He says he dates a lot. As a matter of fact, his record is four dates in one day.
00:11On yesterday's show, the audience voted on which of these three women would be best for him.
00:15Today, you'll find out who Bill chose as his date.
00:19And this is Greg. He's been responsible for a lot of good relationships.
00:24He's often sent women running in the direction of other men.
00:27Which of these women did he choose? Which will our audience choose?
00:31Today on Love Connection, you'll find out who they pick, who the audience picks, and everything that happened on their dates.
00:39Now, here's the host of Love Connection, Chuck Willery.
00:45Thanks, everybody. Welcome to the show today. Nice audience we have here.
00:49Thank you, and welcome to the show. Let's get started by meeting our first guest.
00:52He says dinner is an important part of every date.
00:56He'll get married when he loses the desire to meet new women.
00:59And I've got to ask him about those four dates in one day.
01:02Please welcome Bill Kornfeld.
01:07Hey, Bill. Welcome back.
01:10Four dates in a day. Boy, I tell you what, that beats mine.
01:13Gosh, how did you...
01:14Tell me about them.
01:16All right, Chuck, sure.
01:17Bottles of mine.
01:18Well, actually, the first one was Left Over from the night before.
01:22Oh.
01:22So we went on and we had some...
01:24You count leftovers as well, huh?
01:26We're talking about that here, yes.
01:29Then I had a tennis date, and it was a lot of fun.
01:34Made a love connection on the court.
01:35And then after that, I had a date, a blind date, that a friend of mine fixed me up with.
01:41We met for a cup of coffee.
01:42It was very nice.
01:43And then went out for dinner with the regular date of the day.
01:48Were you serious about any of these women or just trying to get into the Guinness Book of World Records?
01:53I mean...
01:53Chuck, I never take on anybody I'm not serious about.
01:56Oh, come on.
01:57Oh, sure.
01:57Oh, come on.
01:58You don't believe me.
01:59No.
01:59I can tell that.
01:59I don't know.
02:00Are you really serious?
02:02Look into my eyes.
02:04I am.
02:07Let's remind everybody what happened yesterday.
02:09Yesterday, our studio audience saw Bill's three choices, and they voted for one of them.
02:14Let's take a look at all three of these ladies again.
02:15First, it was Phyllis.
02:16She's 38.
02:17She's a sales representative.
02:18Then Cheryl, she's 37, and she's a health care consultant.
02:21Finally, Sheila, she's a legal secretary, and she's also 37.
02:25Now, the audience vote was recorded yesterday.
02:27We're going to get to that a little bit later, but right now, Bill, tell us who you chose.
02:29I chose Cheryl.
02:30I chose Cheryl.
02:31Okay, Cheryl's backstage.
02:34Let's say hello to Cheryl Schroeder.
02:39Hi, Cheryl.
02:40How are you?
02:40How are you?
02:40I'm fine.
02:41I tell you what, I'll get right back to you, Cheryl.
02:42I'm going to ask Bill to tell us about the date, though.
02:44What did you do?
02:45When she watched her tape, she mentioned she liked things to do with the water.
02:49So we decided the first thing that we would do would go on sort of a little short ocean cruise.
02:55And it was a delightful day and had a good time.
02:58Few problems.
02:59One of the first problems was that there seemed to be a bunch of second and third graders on a field trip on the boat.
03:05And they adopted Cheryl.
03:07They fell in love with Cheryl.
03:08We didn't have much time alone together.
03:10How did you like being adopted by all those children, Cheryl?
03:12They were really cute.
03:13And they fell in love with Bill, too.
03:15What did you do next?
03:16From there, we went to Knott's Berry Farm.
03:20Oh, nice.
03:20Nice.
03:21And I have to say, Cheryl has a lot more guts than I do.
03:23Why is that?
03:24Well, she wanted to go on a roller coaster, Montezuma's Revenge.
03:27You don't like those?
03:28No, I let her go by herself.
03:29I stood on the ground and watched her.
03:30Camp Snoopy.
03:33Camp Snoopy was more familiar.
03:34Yeah.
03:34Did you mind having to ride all those wonderful rides alone, Cheryl?
03:37No, I love those kind of rides.
03:39Actually, he was really funny.
03:41He would walk all the way up on the line with me.
03:44He would keep me company.
03:45We would talk.
03:46And then just as we got to the gate, he would kiss me goodbye, and that would be it.
03:50And he would be there waiting for me when I got back.
03:53It was great.
03:54Okay.
03:54What happened next?
03:55We went to this restaurant, and they still have a zany policy.
04:00Anybody who walks in with a necktie, they cut it off.
04:03They bring this big cowbell, and they cut off the necktie.
04:06So if you walk in this, they absolutely...
04:08If you walked in, you'd be in big trouble.
04:10Right.
04:10Okay.
04:11That's why I'm not wearing a tie.
04:12I think it sounds like fun.
04:14All right.
04:15However, when we were in there, a group of eight oriental businessmen came in.
04:19And as you know, they're very properly attired, and they're looking very fit.
04:24And I think they were set up for one of their friends, because he had a camera.
04:27And the next thing you know, they rang this big cowbell.
04:31And this woman comes out, the waitress, with this big pair of scissors, and starts cutting off all these ties.
04:35Like, mass production, right down the line.
04:37Eight ties down the tubes, and Cheryl and I turned to look at each other.
04:41These people must think we Americans have some very strange customs.
04:44Yeah, really.
04:45Don't wear ties in America.
04:46They cut them off.
04:47What happened after dinner, now?
04:49Well, I drove Cheryl home.
04:51She had to get up early in the morning, kissed a good night, and had a really nice time.
04:54Had a good time, then.
04:55Yeah.
04:55Good.
04:56Let's take a look and see who the audience picked for you.
05:02They picked Sheila at 49%.
05:04They didn't pick Cheryl.
05:06Hmm.
05:08Well, you know how it works here.
05:09If you want to take the audience's advice, we offer that up, obviously, for a purpose.
05:14And we will pay for that next date, if you would like to go out with Sheila.
05:17If you don't want to go out with Sheila, then you're kind of on your own.
05:20You can pick who you want.
05:21Well, gee, I'd really like to have a date paid for, but I think I'll stick with Cheryl.
05:26Really?
05:27She's really nice.
05:27Yeah.
05:27Oh, how nice.
05:29That's very nice.
05:30Good.
05:30Is that okay with you, Cheryl?
05:32Come on out and join us.
05:36Well, you're off to a good show.
05:44Have a seat, please.
05:46Well, have we made a love connection here, or what?
05:48Well, we made a very nice light connection.
05:50Thanks for coming on the show.
05:51We have a nice gift for you.
05:52Thanks for having me.
05:53We're going to come right back with another couple.
05:54Stay with us.
06:03All right, let's meet our next guest.
06:04He says that women like his big brown eyes, and he claims he's too honest for most women.
06:09Please welcome Greg Roden.
06:11Do you really find that women are not as direct as men?
06:24For some reason, when a woman meets you, if she likes you, she immediately tries to be what she thinks you want her to be, rather than what she is.
06:34And eventually, she's going to revert to the way she really is, because it takes too much effort.
06:38And that's when it ends.
06:39Do you think that you may be confusing honest with blunt?
06:43I don't think you can be too honest, and any woman who thinks that by being honest, you're being blunt, is probably not honest enough for me.
06:52Hmm.
06:52You consider yourself a pretty good judge of women?
06:55I used to.
06:56Until what?
06:57No, I mean, all my life I thought I was a pretty good judge of women.
07:00You still?
07:02Yeah, I guess so.
07:03I have kind of an ESP, empathy.
07:05And if I really like somebody, I can feel what they're feeling.
07:09This might sound crazy, but I give the greatest massage in the world.
07:13Because when I'm massaging somebody who I feel something for, when it feels good to them, it feels good to me.
07:20But I've been a bachelor a long time.
07:22I guess I'm not right.
07:24Okay.
07:25Let's take a look at the women that Greg had to choose from.
07:28This is going to be interesting.
07:29Now, audience, watch closely, because we're going to ask you to pick the woman that you think's best for him.
07:33You know all these things about him now.
07:35First, it was Terry.
07:36She's won trophies for race car driving, but she says she's a great housekeeper.
07:40We asked her how she felt about making the first approach to a man.
07:46I don't think that women should be really prishy as far as, you know, asking a man out.
07:53I try to be subtle about it.
07:54I give him every opportunity to ask me.
07:58And I feel that if he hasn't asked me after seeing me, being around me so much, then he's not interested.
08:04Okie doke.
08:05Next, there was Barbara.
08:05Now, she's from Chicago.
08:07She's a marathon walker.
08:08And she says she's vulnerable and shy, but she can also be wild and funny.
08:14Men enjoy being around me because I have a tendency to make them laugh, which could be a defense mechanism at times.
08:23And it can be used as a tool, and it's a pretty powerful one.
08:26And it could be very intimidating to have somebody come up with a witticism.
08:29And finally, watch Zipporah.
08:33Now, she's from Finland.
08:34She thinks American women should relax and let men chase them.
08:38And here's what she thinks of American men.
08:41Really, American guys.
08:43You know, they're really nice guys.
08:45I appreciate them.
08:46You know, they're more, they would do certain things that Europeans would not do.
08:51Like I said, take the garbage down.
08:52And if a woman asks her husband, honey, you know, you know, could you take it out, a European will go, move out, you know.
09:01No, Europeans are very, that's the way they are.
09:06Okay.
09:07Greg selected one of those women at his date.
09:09We're going to show you all three women again before you vote.
09:12Now, first it was Terry.
09:13She's 33.
09:14She works in auto leasing.
09:15Then Barbara, she's a production coordinator.
09:17She's also 33.
09:18And finally, Zipporah, she's a 30-year-old cosmetic consultant.
09:23There you got all three of them.
09:24Audience, time for your voting machines.
09:26Make your choice right now.
09:31We're going to take a break.
09:32When we come back, we're going to meet the woman that Greg selected.
09:35We're going to hear everything that happened on their date.
09:36I can't wait for this one.
09:44I think I like sports now.
09:46No way.
09:46The gecko was just spotted down the street.
09:49I've always wanted to meet him.
09:50Ever since Gecko's 24-7 emergency roadside service got us out of a jam.
09:53Sounds like you got more than just savings.
09:55Uh, my dudes.
09:57Sorry, do we know you?
09:58Oh, I'm just a stranger who loves friendly service and American football.
10:03Okay.
10:03Something to drink?
10:04Oh, yes.
10:04A spot of tea would be lovely.
10:06And a root beer with lots of ice.
10:09You know, you kind of look like someone.
10:10Get more than just savings.
10:11Get more with Gecko.
10:12My cousin Daryl.
10:13Oh, he does look like Daryl.
10:14Amazon Fire TV makes it so easy to find all my favorite team's matches in one place.
10:21Fire TV has so many live games.
10:22That's from the goalkeeper.
10:23Oh, wait.
10:24The counter could be on here.
10:25Yeah.
10:26All the best matches across leagues with replays and highlights.
10:29Stick it in the box.
10:29Blair swarming forward.
10:31It's getting crowded in the penalty area.
10:33Cross it.
10:33Get into more of what you're into with Fire TV.
10:42Oh, my.
10:43What a splendid girl.
10:44Like we do it.
11:13Like we do it.
11:14The clock, it's ticking.
11:16This is 60 Minutes.
11:17What I've seen, it's like chaos.
11:22This is the pager that Hezbollah was using.
11:25How is this possible?
11:26Oh, come on.
11:26Come on.
11:27Wow.
11:27Ask me the hard-hitting questions.
11:29I'm open to all of it.
11:3460 Minutes.
11:35Is this what you want?
11:3660 Minutes.
11:3760 Minutes!
11:38It's time for the CBS News Original, 60 Minutes, Sundays on CBS.
11:42Okay, we're back.
11:46Greg, who did you select?
11:48I chose Zipporah.
11:50Zipporah.
11:50Okay.
11:51That's good.
11:52Pretty blonde.
11:53Yeah, that's good.
11:54Now, Greg and Zipporah haven't seen each other since their date.
11:56And as we always hear both sides, let's say hello to Zipporah Kutchman.
12:01Hi, Zipporah.
12:02Hi.
12:03How are you, Chuck, today?
12:04I'm fine.
12:06I'm really excited about being here.
12:08I beg your pardon?
12:09I'm really excited about being here today.
12:10Well, we're very excited about having you here.
12:12I'm going to get right back to you in just a minute, hon, okay?
12:14Tell us about the date, Greg.
12:15Well, I came over to her house to pick her up, and she lives with her folks.
12:19And her mom answered the door.
12:21Uh-huh.
12:22And for the next four minutes, I felt like I was going through an application for the CIA.
12:28I mean, you know, what do my folks do?
12:30Where do I come from?
12:31What do I do?
12:32Have I ever been married?
12:33How old am I?
12:34I thought the old lady wanted to go on a date with us.
12:36Did it put you off?
12:39No, I thought it was kind of cute, actually.
12:42I mean, mothers seem to love me, mothers and babies.
12:44Well, let's find out.
12:45Zipporah, how did your mom think of, what did she think of Greg?
12:48Well, my mom, right away, I was like in the back room getting my things, and my mom runs
12:53to my room and goes, whoa, it's really very attractive.
12:56It does look like Dean Martin, you know?
12:59Dean Martin.
12:59I definitely like her mom.
13:02Dean Martin, yeah.
13:03She's got a little Dean Martin going here.
13:05What happened next after her mom checked you out?
13:07I brought her a yellow rose, which I thought was really cool.
13:11I mean, you know.
13:12Then we left there, and we went to a magic club that I know, and we had a few drinks and
13:16talked a lot, and then we had dinner and talked a lot, and I guess I should say she talked
13:21a lot.
13:22What did she talk about?
13:22And I listened a lot.
13:23She kept repeating over and over again how guys had dumped on her, and she really wasn't
13:28interested in getting into a relationship now.
13:31And I kept wondering, God, what do I have to do to change her mind?
13:34Yeah.
13:35I mean, is it me?
13:35Is it guys in general?
13:36What?
13:37Because she's attractive as well.
13:38Yeah, she's a good-looking girl.
13:39Yeah.
13:39Were you trying to send Greg a message, you think, Sephora?
13:41Well, I was just kind of letting him know down boy.
13:45You know, he was really coming very strong at me.
13:48You haven't heard anything yet.
13:50I was a perfect gentleman.
13:53I was a perfect gentleman.
13:56Oh, baby.
13:58Well, in my opinion, you know, a gentleman has a lot of definitions, but I expect something
14:04very different in a gentleman.
14:06I meet men all the time, gentlemen like you, but I like to really, I was expecting to meet
14:11someone different, and that's what this was all about.
14:14What happened next?
14:14Well, after dinner, we went to see a couple of the shows, and I knew she had to get up
14:18early the next day, so we left the club.
14:19How late was it?
14:20About 12.30 or so.
14:22It was pretty late.
14:22We left the club, and we got into my car, and I thought, well, I know she's got to get
14:25up early tomorrow, but what the hell?
14:27I'll give it a shot.
14:28You know, maybe I've been misreading her, and I asked her if she'd like to go back to
14:31my place for a sauna, and I was right.
14:33She didn't want to.
14:37Let me ask you something, honestly, Greg.
14:39Sure.
14:39Now, do you think most girls on a first date would want to go back to your place for a
14:43sauna?
14:44Why not?
14:45Hold on.
14:45I think we have one out here.
14:48Yeah, sure.
14:49I see no reason not to.
14:51I was a perfect gentleman the entire evening.
14:54That's the way I am.
14:54Maybe she thought this is when the break was going.
14:56Let's find out.
14:57You think, Greg, that may have been kind of pushy?
14:59Yes, she was really expecting too much too soon, and some of us women really need some
15:06time.
15:07We need to be romanced.
15:08We are women.
15:09We are true women.
15:10And I consider myself being a very different person, being individual, which means I have
15:16morals and values.
15:17And I'm not the type to just jump into a jacuzzi.
15:21You know, I mean, I'd love to do it someday with the right guy, but I'm not going to do
15:25it on the first date.
15:26Well, I don't think you can think that pushiness and warmth are the same thing.
15:30Well...
15:30I mean, I'm a warm person, and that's the kind of person that I respond to.
15:34You know how I felt about you when you took me home?
15:38I was very depressed about that.
15:40Well, but you know...
15:41Wait, let me ask.
15:44Was there a goodnight kiss, Zipporah?
15:45Oh, yes.
15:46As a matter of fact, he did give me a kiss, and I gave him a very nice, warm kiss, and
15:50we ended up in the evening very nicely.
15:52And by my kiss, I hope he knows that I really liked him.
15:55I really liked him.
15:56I've had more warmth.
15:57It's just that women need to be chased a little bit.
15:59You understand?
15:59We need a little...
16:01Oh, she...
16:01Wait a minute, Greg.
16:02I think I've got this figured out.
16:04I think she really likes you.
16:05I do.
16:06Why shouldn't she do it?
16:07I mean, after all of this stuff about ice and not being able to do this and everything
16:12else, I think she really likes you.
16:14She's a very nice person.
16:15She's very attractive.
16:16She's just in a place in her life that I didn't find any room for me in there at all.
16:21Yeah.
16:21And as far as her warm kiss, I've had more warmth than a jacuzzi that was broken.
16:26You should see me on the second day.
16:30You should see me on the second day, what warmth to kiss I give then and what happens
16:35on the third and fourth and fifth.
16:36But in order to have something good in life, good things don't come easy.
16:41It takes time.
16:42Okay.
16:43Can I call us?
16:45Sure.
16:46You can applaud if you like.
16:46I'll call a little time out here.
16:49Let's take a look and see who the audience picked.
16:50Oh, now I'm surprised.
16:54I really am surprised.
16:55They picked Terry at 53%.
16:57Isn't that interesting?
16:59And Zipporah got 29%.
17:01That's...
17:02Hmm.
17:02Okay.
17:03Well, that's who the audience selected.
17:04If you want to go out with Terry, we'll be happy to pay that bill and send you out on
17:08another date and see how that works.
17:09Well, actually, Terry was my close second choice.
17:12Was it?
17:12So it can't be any worse than, you know...
17:14Oh, go for it.
17:16No, no, no.
17:17You don't mean there could be any worse.
17:18No, it's just that I want...
17:20I'd like to meet somebody and get a relationship going.
17:22Sure.
17:23And I don't feel that Zipporah is into that now.
17:27Okay.
17:28Zipporah, any parting comments, hon?
17:29Oh, I just want to say that I really still feel he's a very, very nice guy.
17:34Great personality.
17:35I enjoyed meeting him.
17:37I wish it was different circumstances.
17:40But I think it's a good lesson for him to learn that not all women are all alike.
17:44And there's a way to treat them if you really want to see them.
17:48I agree.
17:49Maybe we'll see you again.
17:52Well, Greg, I want to thank you for being on the show.
17:55I'm sorry things didn't work out on that date, but maybe they'll work out with Terry.
17:58I certainly hope so.
17:58Come back and tell us about that.
18:00If Terry is just herself, and if herself and myself are the same kind of self, it'll be fine.
18:05Isn't that great?
18:07He does this all the time to me.
18:09That's great.
18:09We have a nice gift for you.
18:10We're going to come right back.
18:11Stay with us.
18:20We have time for one more guest.
18:23Now, she loves all music except country, and she likes the beach, rain, or shine.
18:26She says she loves men, but there's a certain approach that really turns her off.
18:31Please welcome Jill Klein.
18:32How are you, Jill?
18:38How are you?
18:39How are you?
18:40Fine, thank you.
18:41I love your outfit.
18:41That's great.
18:42It looks like you have Superman's ice castle hanging around your neck there.
18:45Never seen that much crystal.
18:47Yeah.
18:47Listen, what approach, Jill, turns you off?
18:51What kind of approach is that?
18:53The kind of approach where they kind of attack you like a piece of steak.
18:57No, she...
18:58Attack you like a piece of steak?
19:00Yeah.
19:00Uh-huh.
19:01I had...
19:01Guys do that?
19:02Oh, yeah.
19:03Recently, I went to a party, and this fellow came up to me.
19:07He said, what do you say?
19:08You and me have breakfast later on.
19:10And then I told him, well, you know, I'm really not very hungry.
19:12And he said, well, that's okay.
19:14I wasn't really talking about eating anyway.
19:16And I just get turned off to that kind of...
19:20Well, I'm sure you've got turned off to that approach.
19:22That's for sure.
19:22What qualities should a man have to make a good impression on you?
19:27A good sense of humor.
19:28Laugh a lot.
19:29Yeah, laugh a lot.
19:30I like them to dress well, because I like to dress up.
19:33I like them...
19:34I like someone who, um...
19:35Dress well.
19:36Well, now, you're not exactly conservative.
19:38Let's face it here.
19:38No, no, no.
19:38So let's talk about men's dress for just a second.
19:41And suit and tie, or dress well, how?
19:43Sometimes suit and tie.
19:44I like them to...
19:45Preppy look?
19:46Do you like a dress up look?
19:47No, I don't like a preppy look.
19:48No preppies.
19:48Punky look?
19:49Maybe a little bit.
19:50See, we've got to define what dressing well is, folks,
19:53before you make your decision.
19:55A little bit.
19:55Let me ask you a question.
19:56I've never asked anybody this.
19:58Yes, sir.
19:59What made you decide to come on the show?
20:02Well, um, actually, I was in the hospital,
20:05and I was flat on my back,
20:06and I had nothing to do but watch TV
20:09from early in the morning to late at night.
20:11And so, uh, I decided...
20:13I saw the show, and I decided it looked like fun,
20:15so I applied.
20:16Well, that's kind of nice.
20:17We're glad you did come.
20:19Yeah, hope you had a good time.
20:20We'll find out about that later.
20:21Let's take a look at the tapes that Jill saw.
20:23Now, remember, you're going to vote again.
20:24First, there was David.
20:25David's from New Jersey.
20:26He says he's just an average guy,
20:28but other people don't believe it.
20:30And here's what he says about that.
20:33I showed up in a tux.
20:35She wasn't in one,
20:36so I had to insult her and degradate her,
20:38you know, and just make her feel bad
20:39about the whole thing.
20:41So I got there, and she wasn't in a tux.
20:42We wound up going, me in a tux,
20:44her in denims,
20:45and people were looking at us.
20:46So embarrassing for her.
20:48I felt great.
20:49All right, next it was Art.
20:52Art butterflies are a sure sign
20:55that Art's in love, he says,
20:56but the relationship won't get far
20:58unless she's more than just a pretty face.
21:02I really like an outgoing personality,
21:04someone that you can have a lot of fun with
21:06that's not going to be offended by anything
21:07or be too sensitive about jokes.
21:09I have a cynical sense,
21:11and I like to goof around.
21:12So it has to be someone
21:13that's going to be able to take that
21:14and to be able to hit me back
21:16with a few jokes, too.
21:17I love it.
21:18All right, and finally, you watch Jay.
21:20He says he lifts weights to keep in shape
21:22so that women will be attracted to his body,
21:24but he's committed to playing the field.
21:28I want to meet a lot of different ladies, okay,
21:32and get to meet them, enjoy them,
21:36whatever takes place.
21:38You know, life is like this,
21:39and I'll take it as it comes,
21:41but I'm not that serious about being serious.
21:46I'm serious about having fun.
21:49And now we're seriously going to show you
21:51all three of these men again.
21:52First, there was David.
21:52He's 26.
21:53He's a car rental executive.
21:54Then Art, he's a clothing salesman.
21:56He's 25.
21:57And finally, you saw Jay.
21:58He's a salesman.
21:59He's also 25.
22:01Okay, audience, time to vote again.
22:02Please make your choice right now.
22:04Who do you think's the best man for Jill?
22:10All right.
22:11Audience has made its choice.
22:12We're going to find out who Jill picked tomorrow,
22:14and we're going to hear everything that happened on their date
22:16when she comes back.
22:17That's our show for today.
22:18We're best, what, one out of two?
22:20Not too bad.
22:20This is Chuck Woolery.
