00:00In today's Blue Rush, we're going to talk about the state of the franchise, relive some of the glory years,
00:05and of course, we're going to talk about where the Giants should go from here.
00:08The two-time Super Bowl champ, running back, Brandon Jacobs.
00:17Big bro, thanks for hopping on with this, man.
00:21Weird times we're in right now for the Giants, and I've always come to you with advice on the field, off the field.
00:27You were a leader of the team back in 2007, and what's your time with the Giants?
00:33From watching, bro, there was so much hope in the spring, in the summer, going into this season.
00:40What's going wrong, man?
00:41You're a leader.
00:42What is going wrong with this Giants season this year?
00:46Well, from outside looking in, there's not a shortage of players.
00:53I think we have decent coaches.
00:54I don't understand the amount of influence that one player has had as a scatable.
01:04We were doing great offensively when he was touching the ball, but we lost him on the nasty, gruesome ankle injury, leg injury, whatever have you,
01:16and just the energy hadn't been the same.
01:19It hadn't been the same ever since.
01:20And Dart, I love Jackson Dart.
01:22I thought that we should have drafted him.
01:24I thought that was the right pick for the New York Giants.
01:26I thought he was a quarterback that can come in and do some things for us that we've never seen before from a quarterback position.
01:35Getting yours with his feet, just making a lot of plays, extending plays, and doing a lot of great things,
01:41having swag, and just bringing that type of confidence to the locker room that the New York Giants had never had at that position.
01:49I love, you know, I love Eli, so to say he's never had at that position.
01:53I just mean the type of quarterback he is and his characteristics and his demeanor.
01:59That's more about what I'm talking about.
02:00I need to clear that up.
02:01People say I'm trying to throw Eli under the bus.
02:05So, you know, just that type of thing.
02:09Like, Eli was a quiet guy.
02:11You know, he had other guys on the team to do that stuff that he didn't do.
02:14The lead, the loud leading and stuff like that.
02:17He led with his play.
02:19And, but, you know, and I think Jackson Dart is going to be the quarterback for the New York Giants in the future.
02:24I think him and Scataboo is going to be two guys going together now.
02:30Defensively, I don't understand.
02:31I mean, we got the defensive front, the best defensive front,
02:34one of the top two or three defensive fronts in the NFL.
02:38We're getting pressure on passers.
02:40You know, I think Burns is sitting down about 10 sacks, you know, right now.
02:45You know, not even to midseason at this point.
02:50So, I think that our defensive line is, is, is, is, was looked at to be the best,
02:56the strongest part of our defense.
02:58Now, giving up 30 points a game on why that's going the way it has so far now,
03:03the cookie never crumbled the way you want it to.
03:05You know, the cookies never crumbled the way you want it to.
03:08And, and, you know, and in saying that, you can have all the best weapons on your team,
03:13but the stuff may not necessarily gel the way you think it's going to.
03:16You know, so I, I just think we need a little bit more time to, you know, like together.
03:22And, um, you know, I think every time I do an interview about the New York Giants,
03:26I feel like I'm making up excuse, like after excuse every year when I do interviews,
03:30but I really truly feel like this particular team is the best New York Giants team that we've had
03:37in a while, uh, on paper.
03:38Um, you know, I think when Malik neighbors went, went down, I think we, I think we should have used
03:46that opportunity to bring in another wide receiver that can help us, um, you know, on offense.
03:52And I, I don't know why, uh, the Giants chose to not do that, whatever their option is.
03:58Obviously I support whatever they, you know, whatever the reason was, but I, I, if I was the
04:04one in charge, I would have definitely looked to, uh, bring another wide receiver in, um,
04:10and, you know, in some way to come.
04:12And that's a veteran that can come in and help us right now that may have been out there
04:16or possibly make a trade for somebody to come in and be able to help us.
04:21So, I mean, it's, it's, it's a lot of different things.
04:24I think the running game has been great.
04:27Scatterpool turned that up.
04:29Now, you know, now you've got Devin in the game.
04:31I think, I think he's doing good.
04:33Um, I would like to see more time on Tracy, obviously.
04:37Um, but I, I, I think like on and all, I think the offense has, has turned up a little
04:42bit more than we've seen in past years.
04:45Uh, you know, just hope to get better going down, you know, you know, from this point
04:49forward when you turn on the tape and you may see, we see things like the penalties.
04:56We see things, um, fans calling out players for lack of, of effort, stuff like that when
05:04the flown in the locker room with you guys, with Antonio Pierce, with, with Michael Strahan.
05:10So now at two and seven, without trying to be too much of a rah-rah guy, like, like who,
05:17who needs to step up within the locker room to try and get guys to stop shooting themselves
05:23in the foot?
05:25You know what I mean?
05:25Like it's the giants versus the giants at times.
05:28Um, so like, like how, like, like how was a leader born?
05:33Like how, like how, how do they, the leaders in that locker room, like how do you address
05:38all of that?
05:38Well, seems like you got to tread light and walk on eggshells as a leader nowadays.
05:45Uh, with the way things are going, I think guys are firing back a little bit too much
05:50when held accountable by your peer.
05:54And I think that's more of the problem why guys just typically stay to themselves.
05:58Like if I was a leader on this team, I probably wouldn't say much, you know?
06:02Cause I know trying to hold a guy accountable for something that I know as his teammate that
06:08he can do much better than what he's doing.
06:10He may not like that.
06:12It can, it, like it can get really ugly in those situations.
06:16So I don't know how I would handle this specific team as a leader.
06:20Now I think Dexter Lawrence is a leader and I think he's vocal and I think he speaks out
06:25when, when something's wrong.
06:26I think Ryan, but I think Burns is a leader.
06:28I think those guys speak out about stuff when they feel like things are wrong.
06:32Now here's my issue.
06:34Who's the leader on the offensive team?
06:36Who's the leader for the offense that, and that, and that typically is a quarterback,
06:39but will these veterans listen to a rookie quarterback?
06:42Will they take what he's saying and, and, and, and, and, and, and take it to heart and,
06:47and do, and do something about it.
06:49Or they'll tell him, man, shut up.
06:50You're a rookie.
06:50You don't know a whole lot about what we're going through as veterans and been losing and
06:54so on and so forth.
06:55Right?
06:55So who is that leader on the offensive side of the ball?
07:00Right?
07:01Is it, is it Andrew Thomas or your stud left tackle who might be one of the best in the
07:06league?
07:06Is it him?
07:08I, I, I, like, I don't know, but who is the leader on the offensive side of the ball
07:12that can get the team to respond?
07:15Who is it?
07:16We don't know.
07:19You talked about how the Giants, you think that the Giants should have went out and grabbed
07:23a playmaking wide receiver for Jackson Dart once Malik, Malik neighbors went down.
07:29So one, where are you at with your evaluation with Jackson Dart up to this point?
07:34And two, how do we, how are we supposed to evaluate him if he doesn't have that alpha
07:40receiver on, on the, in the perimeter?
07:43Well, I think the evaluation of a Jackson Dart is over.
07:48That's the Giants quarterback.
07:50There is no evaluation going on there.
07:53He is the starting quarterback for the New York football Giants until he is no longer
07:56playing football anymore on this team.
07:59He is our quarterback.
08:01And I think me and you both and all of hundreds of thousands of fans around the world could
08:05agree that Jackson Dart is our guy.
08:07And I like that idea.
08:09However, he can't drop back and take off and take these hits every time.
08:16You know, it's not that these guys aren't open.
08:18I, I, I, I, like, I don't know.
08:20I, I haven't watched the end zone copy of a whole bunch of these games.
08:23I just only see things on TV.
08:25Right?
08:25So I, there's a whole lot that they don't show you on TV.
08:28There's a whole lot of stuff that the average fan doesn't really see.
08:31I know what's going on, you know, but I do think he needs a, a threat at wide receiver
08:38to, to, to be successful.
08:41And I think we're good at that.
08:43I don't know what's up with, with Hyatt.
08:45I don't know why he's not playing.
08:46I don't know.
08:47You know, I thought I'd see more of him when Malik went down.
08:50I haven't seen that much of him.
08:53Slayton has been there.
08:56I'm not saying that these guys aren't great.
08:58But I do think that we do need somebody that we had.
09:02I thought for sure we'd get opportunity to see Odell Beckham again this year.
09:06Even before the Malik neighbors injury, I thought week two would have came and they would have
09:10picked him up him as a veteran, you know, how the contract stuff goes.
09:13But I thought we would have been seeing him from week two on.
09:16So, but we never saw that.
09:18But we need, it's kind of, it's going to be hard to evaluate.
09:22If they're still evaluating Jackson, it's going to be hard to evaluate him with, with what we have on offense.
09:28Sitting at two and seven right now.
09:32Trade deadline Tuesday, 4 p.m.
09:34If you're Joe Shane, you buying or you're selling and who?
09:39I mean, I'm definitely going to make a trade before that deadline and I'm going to offer something.
09:52Maybe I'm going to get a guy who, who's right now in his prime, you know, that hasn't reached his contract negotiation yet.
10:01That's a young guy coming into the league.
10:07What position, what position would you go for?
10:10I'm going for, I'm going, I'm going wide receiver for sure.
10:14I'm going wide receiver for sure.
10:15Now, maybe, maybe not as high as I, that, that I thought.
10:19I like, you know, maybe a guy that can come in that can, that, that's going to be a real number two and a real number two wide receiver for next year.
10:27Cause they have to take that into consideration when Malik neighbors come back.
10:31We can't, we can't go and do too much with the trade deadline because we do have Malik neighbors coming back next year as our number one guy.
10:40So you got to go out and get a guy that can come be a number one guy now that will be okay being a number two wide receiver next year that we can possibly give a contract to.
10:49And they can be these two guys.
10:50Like a lot of these teams have two guys that wide receiver now that they pay, you know, and I know the Giants isn't going to do what the Cincinnati Bengals did and pay like a Jamar chase, you know, that type of bread and have another guy that they pay, that they also give it that type of bread to.
11:06So it's very tricky when it comes to it, you know, but I would definitely go out and try to find me a guy at wide receiver.
11:14That can be my number one guy now that I can give my court that, that I can have to add to what we have, you know, and just sit down and meet with some of these wide receivers we have on the team.
11:25Like, Hey man, listen, y'all got to get it together.
11:27You know, you got to hold them accountable and that has to come from upstairs.
11:33That's what it has to come from upstairs, sit down and talk to these guys.
11:37They've never had to do that.
11:38And I guess that's why they were like, we never had to do that to any guy who would get involved in what's going on in the locker room.
11:43They never had to do that.
11:44But right now what we got, and I'm not saying the guys we got that, you know, can't play, but nobody seemed to be getting open.
11:50You know, our, you know, no one seemed to be getting open Jackson Darcy and to try to do a lot on his feet and he's taking hits, you know, he's, he's, he's, he's wearing down and that's what that, that, what you, you don't want your quarterback to be, you know, to wear down, you know, throughout the four quarters, you know, you got to find some guys, guys got to get open.
12:08You know, you got to run some screens and, you know, trying to, you know, use the pressure against the defense because they've been doing a lot of blitzing and pressuring and, you know, they're trying to throw hot man, throw some screens and get these guys to flow down.
12:19Change the snap count is, you know, stop these guys from trying to tee off on, you know, on your quarterback.
12:25Like you have to do stuff like that to try to neutralize the, you know, the defense and get them, you know, thinking versus just coming.
12:31So definitely a wide receiver would definitely help us.
12:36And honestly, I thought that offensive line hadn't done, hadn't done bad this year.
12:41I thought they, I thought that they've done a good job.
12:44You know, I thought they've done a really good job.
12:46You know, you know, like during the season, I, I, I, I just think we need another threat at wide receiver.
12:55Lastly, if you could talk to this team right now, they brought you in like, like they normally do.
13:00If you could talk to this team right now, no cameras in the locker room, just straight talk.
13:05Like you used to talk to us in the locker room.
13:07What would you say to this giant squad?
13:09Well, what I see the team, I see a same team taking, I seen this, I see the same team wearing the same uniform, taking the field every week.
13:21But each one of those guys in that uniform is bringing a different, uh, some seem disinterested, but even though, yeah, we got the same uniform on, but some people bring a different degree of hunger.
13:37We got the uniform on, but we all aren't as hungry as the other man burns seem like he's hungry.
13:43He seems like he's hungry.
13:45He's trying to get after it.
13:46He's showing, he ran it on his sleeve.
13:48He seemed hungry.
13:49Right.
13:49So I want, I need to see, I need to see 53 guys like that.
13:53I need to see 53 guys going out there and wearing their emotions on their sleeve and, and letting, you know, and letting people know how much it matters to them.
14:01That they're successful as a team playing New York giants, hard hitting football, wearing your lunch, you know, you, you got your lunch bill and you have your hard hat.
14:10You're going to work every single day to be as successful as you can.
14:14And just leaving everything on the field.
14:16You know, I, I, I don't know what I would tell the team, man.
14:19I, like, honestly, you're two and seven.
14:23What do you want to hear from anybody for them?
14:27Are they taking the information in?
14:31Two and seven, excuse me, but it's kind of difficult to talk to a team at this point when you two and seven and you're already out of the dance.
14:41You got to win out the rest of the season, even be considered, you know, and, and it just, it just doesn't seem like they're playing with any swag or belief in their abilities to be able to be successful.
14:51They're just out there playing through four quarters seem like to me.
14:54And, and, and that's what I'm looking at.
14:56And if I'm wrong, I'm wrong.
14:58Then what, then what's the problem?
14:59It just seem like they're taking the field because they're healthy and, and, and that's not going to bring in any wins.
15:06You know, they got to act like they want it.
15:08They got to, you know, well, I guess I not act like they want it.
15:11They have to perform like they want it.
15:12Cause like you want it, obviously it's not getting it done right now.
15:16So be Jacobs, man.
15:18You always know.
15:19I always love talking ball with you, man.
15:21I appreciate you taking the time out to hang in and talk with us, bro.
15:25You're a legend.
15:27You're a legend.
15:27I appreciate you, brother.
15:28You're doing a good job, man.
15:29Thanks, bro.
15:30Thank you, bro.
15:30Thank you, bro.
