00:00Listen, Nick Kaley, let's just be honest,
00:03has been in a tough spot all season before.
00:06Frank with you.
00:07Easy gig.
00:09And Sunday, it was made even more difficult with the key injuries he had, right?
00:17There's no C.J. Stroud.
00:19There's no Titus Howard after the second quarter.
00:21But still, offensively, in so many ways, they were awful
00:25and have to be better.
00:2715 points they scored.
00:29That's on all field goals.
00:31They didn't get into the end zone at all.
00:33And they had great opportunities, multiple opportunities at the one.
00:37And they didn't get into the end zone.
00:39First and goal at the one and didn't get into the end zone.
00:43They were four for eight on third and fourth downs combined,
00:46three for 17 on third down, 268 total yards, 77 yards rushing.
00:52As I said, no C.J. Stroud, no Titus.
00:55Didn't have any turnovers in the game.
00:57So that wasn't a problem.
00:59How would you say you thought Nick Caley did yesterday with everything he had to do with?
01:03Look, I think he left a lot to be desired.
01:05I don't blame – you know, I think I'm probably in the minority here.
01:09I don't blame a lot on him.
01:10Like, I think this is a D'Amico problem more so than anything,
01:14even more so than the injuries.
01:15I think the injury just kind of magnified the already issues that this offense has.
01:20So I'll be loud and clear.
01:21I think it's a D'Amico problem more so than a Nick Caley problem.
01:24But, look, Nick Caley left a lot to be desired.
01:26I mean, once you get beyond the thought of in the fourth quarter saying,
01:31hey, man, we're going to go for it and be aggressive in a situation
01:34where we should chew up their timeouts and go to overtime and ensure overtime.
01:38You know, once you get beyond going, hey, man, we're inside the five-yard line,
01:43you know, what are we going to do?
01:47You know, there's a creativity problem.
01:50There is a focusing on and getting the football to your best player problem.
01:56There's a – the group looks overwhelmed in critical moments of the game constantly.
02:04Like, a lot of that has to do with Nick Caley.
02:07And that's – he's who's managing that group and running that group as a whole
02:12on a daily basis.
02:13And so the appearance of not being prepared, the appearance of being overwhelmed,
02:20the appearance of zero creativity, the appearance of, like, zero energy effort
02:26or want to get the best players, the most explosive players, the football in space,
02:31like, all of that stuff is Nick Caley.
02:33So I'll just – I'll put it to you like this.
02:35Look, I think he's got the odds stacked against him,
02:36but I think he in general has left a lot to be desired.
02:39Yeah.
02:40No, I mean, he looks – he looks at times, I would say the majority of the time,
02:46Clint, of the way we feared at the start of the year.
02:50A guy coming in that doesn't have a ton of experience.
02:53We don't have a lot of history to see what he can do.
02:57He's got less – I would say less talent overall than the previous regime,
03:04the previous OC had to deal with, and he's not as good as the previous OC.
03:10I think we're seeing those things combined.
03:13And I think an interesting point that maybe we can dive in a little deeper
03:17at some point this week because you're pushing this where you feel like he also
03:23is probably having –
03:27especially his head coach and maybe even the GM,
03:32but his head coach in his room a lot more than Bobby had.
03:38Yeah.
03:38Well, look, I just think this.
03:40I think as D'Amico has shown time and time again to be overseeing
03:48and on top of everything that's going on offensively,
03:51it is hard to not believe for me to believe that he has a strong hand
03:58in the simple things that aren't happening, right?
04:04I just watched the last three plays of the game when you're trying to get
04:06quick completions.
04:08They didn't move one guy pre-snap.
04:11Three plays, they didn't move one guy pre-snap.
04:14Not one.
04:16Not one guy to get a free release.
04:18Not one guy to see what the coverage was.
04:22Not one guy to get a pick play in the –
04:25a quick throw in the flats.
04:27Not one guy to force the defense to make a call and adjust.
04:31Just line up stationary, vanilla as can be, and run mirrored quick routes.
04:35Like, it's – there is – like, you can't tell me –
04:40like, if I'm D'Amico Ryans and I'm the head coach,
04:43there's no one I know about offensive football,
04:45I'm going to Nick Kaley a month ago and saying,
04:49why are we not – why do we never use hard counts?
04:53Why do we not have – why in critical moments do we not have motions?
04:57How many times are we going to line up in short-yarded situations
05:00in heavy personnel and not get it before we try to spread these guys out
05:04and do a little something different?
05:05Osher guys that are jogging around.
05:10How come nothing's crisp?
05:12Yeah.
05:12You know what I mean?
05:12How come – like, to your point,
05:14how come our playmakers disappear from game plan to game plan?
05:19That time, yeah.
05:19Don't even get on the field.
05:21Like, these are all football 101 things.
05:23Why are we rotating left guards?
05:28You know, what – like, all of these kind of things are really,
05:34really interesting to me.
05:35And as much as D'Amico Rines is on top of this offense,
05:38those are all things that I would expect him to demand.
05:46So, yeah, I think – I'm not saying he's in the meeting with him,
05:49but I think D'Amico Rines has a lot to do with our goal line
05:52and short-yardage stuff.
05:53Nope, we're going heavy personnel.
05:54We're going to move, guys.
05:56We're going to be the more physical team.
05:57We're going to move, guys.
05:58That's what we're going to do.
05:59Our identity is being physical.
06:01That's what we're going to do.
06:03Whereas, if I'm D'Amico Rines right now, I'm going to go up and say,
06:05hey, Bob, we're not that team.
06:08So, figure out a way to go 11 personnel.
06:11Figure out a way to spread these guys out.
06:12Figure out a way to toss it.
06:13What are other options?
06:14We can't get down here.
06:15Running the ball between the tackles at Zach Allen and DJ Jones
06:21and whoever the hell it was that – Leonard Williams, that big boy in Seattle.
06:26Like, that's not an option anymore.
06:28Figure something else out.
06:30So, yeah, I do – I think D'Amico Rines has a heavy hand
06:33in what's going on offensively.
06:34I think he's responsible for a lot of it.
06:38Yeah.
06:38Well, yeah, and that's a lot more than what he was doing
06:44in his previous couple of years here.
06:47So, listen, I have some issues with some of the things he did,
06:50but I will understand.
06:53You lose your quarterback and your best offensive lineman
06:56in the middle of that thing.
06:58It does – I mean, for somebody, Clint,
07:00who generally doesn't seem to adjust well when he's got all his parts,
07:05to somebody who doesn't seem to have a lot of creativity
07:09in what he wants to do when he has all of his parts,
07:12it was just going to look even worse.
07:14Well, I just – here's the thing, Ron, is I don't know how Bill Lazor –
07:18is he still in the building over there?
07:19Is Bill Lazor still in the building over there?
07:21I think so.
07:22You know, Bill Lazor, what's the cat that he brought with him from L.A.?
07:27Splinsky.
07:27Splinsky.
07:29Gerard Johnson.
07:30Like, I don't know how these guys sit around and coach this group
07:35and watch the film and aren't disgusted.
07:38Like, I don't know how – like, I've never been around a coaching staff
07:40that would watch that last drive and go, yeah, man, we just got to execute.
07:45I mean, could you look at it and go, yeah, well,
07:46so-and-so was open on the right side and he worked left.
07:48Yep, sure he can.
07:50But how do you look at that and go –
07:52Well, D'Amico said it wasn't the plan.
07:53We're going to throw a quick out to the left right here to Higgins,
07:56who ain't pissed a drop.
