00:00It's a perpecahan in the party, but it's not a perpecahan in terms of the fight for the people of Melayu.

00:10Former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has downplayed the rift within Bersatu,

00:15saying it will not affect efforts to strengthen Malay unity.

00:19Speaking at a press conference in Putrajaya today, Mahathir said,

00:23the disagreements within the party were an internal matter and should not be seen as a split in the broader struggle to uphold Malay interests.

00:32Asked whether he supported Bersatu President Muhyiddin Yassin or Deputy President Hamza Zainuddin,

00:37Mahathir said both leaders were welcome under the broader platform for Malay unity.

00:42Mahathir's comments come amid escalating tensions within Bersatu,

00:46following the sacking of Taksik Gelugoh MP 1 Saiful Wan Jan and the suspension of Macang MP 1 Ahmad Faizal 1 Ahmad Kamal

00:55for allegedly breaching the party's constitution and code of conduct.
