00:00PAS can no longer avoid taking over the role of opposition leader in the Dewan Rakyat,
00:05which is currently held by former Besatu Deputy President Hamza Zainuddin, says an analyst.
00:11Taufik Yaakob of University Malaya said,
00:14This is because the Islamic Party cannot afford to risk further straining ties with its Perikatan National Ally,
00:20and any move to retain Hamza in the role would sow discord within the coalition.
00:24He added that this is particularly significant as Hamza had previously declared Besatu President Muhyiddin Yassin his number one enemy
00:33after being sacked,
00:34warning that continued infighting over the position could lead to PN's collapse,
00:39with Besatu potentially leaving the coalition and instead focusing on Muhyiddin's new brainchild,
00:45the Ikatan Prihatin Rakyat Alliance, in the next general election.
00:49Taufik added that past Secretary General Taki Yudin Hassan might be a better opposition leader,
00:54since PAS Vice President Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar already held the dual responsibilities of PN Chairman and Trungganu Menteri Besar.
01:02Ahmad Zaharuddin Sani, Ahmad Sabri of Global Asia Consulting said,
01:07PAS must be bold and take on the post in order to show Malaysians that it was prepared to lead
01:12the federal government.
01:13He said this would not only show PAS's dominance in PN but also its political maturity in respecting allies,
01:20arranging its strategies, and displaying its readiness to take on major responsibilities.
