00:00There is nothing to suggest that this is a terrorist incident.

00:09A 32-year-old British man is the sole suspect accused of a mass stabbing on a train in England.

00:16That's after another man arrested in the case was released on Sunday with no charges.

00:21The 35-year-old man who had been arrested earlier was released after officers concluded he was not involved in the attack.

00:29Superintendent John Loveless spoke for the British Transport Police.

00:33Encounter terrorism policing. We're initially supporting our investigation.

00:38However, at this stage, there is nothing to suggest that this is a terrorist incident.

00:43Loveless said police were still trying to establish a motive for the attack.

00:48Eyewitness video, verified by Reuters, showed people fleeing Huntingdon Station on Saturday night.

00:54That's where the train made an emergency stop while on its way to London, some 80 miles to the south.

01:01The attack had put 11 people in hospital, with some fighting for their lives.

01:07Police said five had been discharged by late Sunday after treatment.

01:11Among those still being treated was a member of the train crew who tried to stop the attack.

01:17Prime Minister Keir Starmer called it an appalling incident that was deeply concerning.

01:22Knife crime in England and Wales has risen 87% over the past decade.

01:28Official figures show there were nearly 54,600 offences last year.

01:34A 2% rise from 2023 and among the highest rates in Europe.

01:39In a statement, Interior Minister Shabana Mahmood said she was deeply saddened,

01:43while urging people to avoid speculation about the incident.

01:48The government is keen to stop rumours spreading on social media following a 2024 stabbing attack in Southport,

01:55when internet claims over the murder of three young girls sparked days of rioting across the country.

02:01That's why it's crazy, when I'm out, I mean why, why someone, people do that too,

02:07I don't know, I don't know, I get scared of my, I mean I travel only with my car, my son, me and my daughter,

02:14they use train all the time.

02:16It will affect lots of people today, I mean I've had family using the, using the train line just the day before,

02:22so they could have been on that train easily.

02:25I've got a lot of family up at Peterborough as well, so we tend to use the trains a lot to get up there as well,

02:30and like I mentioned to you before, we use it to get into London occasionally as well, yeah.

02:33It's going to impact a lot of people this, for sure, but it's, yeah, not good.

02:37A horrifying incident like this can actually make people think twice about the things that influence them

02:43and the things we glorify, like violence and things.

02:47It's absolutely unacceptable and it's got no place in society generally.
