The South Australian opposition has promised tough new laws that would see serious offenders put behind bars after their first breach of bail if the Liberals win government at the state election. Law and order has emerged as a key battleground as the poll draws closer, with the government today accusing the opposition of copying legislation it introduced to state parliament last week.

01:17South Australia may not have the youth crime issues of other states,
01:21but the political consequences are here anyway.

01:28both parties are looking to take control of an issue
01:32that's been damaging for governments and pivotal in elections.
