00:00good morning it is monday november 3rd and that means two things this is the 300th episode of

00:22the lighting industry news brief that is six years of weekly releases and i gotta say

00:30it has been a ride it has been something folks i want to thank nailed of course uh we've gone

00:39through several board members in that time six years is a lot but everyone on the board everyone

00:44on the new ambassador team absolutely wonderful and supportive uh the management side the

00:50management company is a private entity that helps run this whole thing uh we've gone through a couple

00:55of colleagues of mine we've had three different administrators they really keep me on track and on

01:00top of the ball i would not be able to accomplish even half of this without them i also want to thank

01:06you i want to thank you for doing this you you watching you reading you supporting anything you

01:12did to help absolutely made this worthwhile the lighting industry has been very kind to me and

02:39into the news because fulham has bought newa light newa light makes uh lighting products specifically

02:46for grocery store displays so a lot of risk refrigeration lighting uh which is interesting

02:52ups has cut 48 000 jobs this is part of a plan to just reduce their uh management top load as well

03:01as physical storefronts so if you rely on ups uh rely on them more remotely in the future

03:07on the tariff tracker we have a new deal between the u.s and south korea china and the u.s have reset their

03:14tariffs to 47 percent and the u.s senate has passed a completely non-binding vote to end tariffs with canada

03:22man you'd think uh they could do that for real maybe that seems like a thing a senate could do

03:29i'm not a politician uh orion has secured a new contract with 47 million in infrastructure deals

03:38going ahead for them this is probably with uh another uh major uh major government agency

03:43uh q3 at fagerholt shows that their net sales were at when 2027 swedish kroner that's up 5.6

03:52sorry two billion swedish kroner five point set still up 5.6 uh q3 at lumen technologies shows 250

04:03million in revenue hubel has raised their profit outlooks for the year they are now expecting a

04:09profit per share at 18 dollars and 20 cents each signifies share buyback program continues with 117

04:1813 330 shares back with the board at 22.31 euros apiece roughly uh q3 at gray bar shows 3.29

04:29billion in net sales q3 at wesco shows record sales they are up 18 this quarter year over year

04:36the u.s has added six minerals to their critical minerals list they are copper lead silicone silver

04:43uranium and potash most of those are related to electrical early electronic gears potash potash

04:51is specifically for agriculture the epa has approved a new mop new copper mine in utah uh this mine will

04:57be sinking in san juan county and it's going to go ahead thanks to a waiver of an aquifer safety review

05:04rexel has launched a new sustainable development program with system with their new sustainability

05:10shapers program schneider electric is updating on their sustainability impact report they're doing

05:16fine on their self-imposed goals in rep agency updates magnitude has picked uh mrl for minneapolis

05:23and the metro area neo architectural has partnered with fos nura and made specific in events news

05:30education might be three days next year maybe uh the the the link to the announcement went up three

05:39days ago and then it got pulled like two days ago and i can't confirm that on any other sources that's

05:45just a rumor let me know if you know anything about it guys uh on february 23rd through 26th the

05:52association of any energy services professionals will hold their annual in-person event in san diego

06:53design for women this is a workplace study from egypt that offers advice for smart office buildings

06:59hex structures may improve micro leds uh this new structure design from jam and you offers better

07:06knits uh that's brightness at the screen level we have a new vertical gan uh semiconductor on semi has

07:13built a new baseline for ai and or electrification using this semiconductor model battery particles glow

07:22uh this is a new per du point optical microscope study that points out that you can literally just

07:30point the the optical microscope at an electrified lithium ion battery and measure charge levels that way

07:37if you felt like it dark matter glows which is counterintuitive i'll admit but nasa has begun

07:45tracking gamma bursts and light emissions from the center of the universe penn state has studied the

07:52possibility of using street lamps as ev chargers this new study shows how cities can support evs and

07:59how they can scale up norwegian salmon farmers are testing new fish centric lighting uh they are adding

08:06uvb leds to boost vitamin d levels that were lost when they should shifted to a better kind of feed

08:13we also have a new piglet centric lighting study this is from the martin luther university of halle

08:20wittenberg uh that plans brightness and cct tuning throughout the day for the recently weaned pig

08:27we have six new species of bats that have been found to glow under uv remember when we were doing that

08:35that was like 2022 right you of georgia has added this six species bats to the list of fluorescent mammals

08:43we also have a new photoluminescent program for barcodes uh this allows for better authenticity for

08:51say your concert tickets or your uh your your your your your stickers at the self-checkout uh this uses

08:59a lasset a new lattice of gd203 on the dark side of things the uk has tracked nocturnal insects with

09:08weather radar and found that there has been a steady decline in activity over the past five years

09:13the port marine laboratory is hosting a new summit on light pollution at sea uh alan is spiking the

09:20activity of parasitic flatworms all flatworms are parasitic sorry for saying sorry for repeating myself

09:27there uh the korean brain research institute has figured out why finches sing at dawn we have circadian

10:35levels unless there's fog the university of cincinnati is beginning an audit for bird safety on campus

10:42after they've found 50 birds dead on campus in one night in markham ontario ibm's business campus keeps

10:51killing birds but they're working with an organization called flap canada to fix that bakersfield california

10:57is pushing back on a proposed lds temple again uh like a lot of pushbacks on latter-day saints

11:03temples that is related to the height of the building and the brightness of their up lights

11:08purdue university's astronomy club is calling for changes to campus lighting born texas beat buckies on

11:15size and signage in terms of zoning laws connecticut hosts events for bat week belgium hosts the night of

11:24darkness and lusatia germany is working on new light pollution rules um in horticultural news big guns coffee is

11:34bringing coffee indoors uh container farms and they're growing them in the u.s the continental u.s this is um

11:41normally u.s made coffee is from puerto rico or hawaii uh we also have vertical farms partnering up with german cafés to grow

15:00dollar grant for pickleball hood college uh in maryland is lighting their baseball fields and new
