Asean stands firm against nuclear testing, says Khaled

Asean remains committed to preserving the region as a zone of peace, freedom and neutrality, firmly opposing any actions that threaten global security — including nuclear weapons testing, said Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.  Speaking after the Asean Defence Ministers' Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus), Khaled stressed that any nation seeking engagement with Asean must respect this long-standing principle. 00:08Did he talk to you about any nuclear testing and what's your view on that?

00:14No, he did not say about that nuclear testing.

00:20And I think I have said, I have given my views of that yesterday.

00:28But to repeat, like I say, this region, ASEAN, we have stated our stand that it should be nuclear-free.

00:41And as a country, Malaysia, I think we hope that any weapon that can destroy mankind

00:56or can affect mankind should be curtailed and should not be encouraged.

01:04That's what I can say.

01:05But this region is a region which should be nuclear-free.

01:11That has already been stated.

01:13And any country that wants to have any engagement with ASEAN must respect ASEAN's wishes.
