Malaysians may soon enjoy cheaper flights to Sabah and Sarawak as the government collaborates with airlines to make domestic air travel more affordable.

Tourism Malaysia deputy chairman Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin told reporters that during The Star Karnival Cuti-Cuti Malaysia in George Town, Penang, which promotes local tourism ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026.

00:49Calling the event a celebration of collective identity, he also emphasized that promoting local tourism
00:55helps Malaysians appreciate their country's beauty while generating income for local communities.

01:10savor the distinct flavors that define each state and our sense of unity as Malaysians.
01:17Held at Gurney Paragon Mall, the Star Carnival Chuti Chuti Malaysia features 54 exhibitors,
01:23including travel agencies, hotels, theme parks, homestays and destination specialists,
01:29along with craft producers, heritage cuisines and exclusive travel deals.
01:35Yeo thanked Star Media Group, SMG, for partnering in the nationwide campaign,
01:40saying its creativity and wide reach have amplified Tourism Malaysia's message.
01:45He also announced that Malaysia recorded 260.1 million domestic trips worth 106.7 billion ringgit last year,
01:55a 25.7% increase from 2022.
02:00In the first quarter of this year 2025, domestic tourism continued to flourish with 69.7 million visitors,
02:09representing a growth of 18.9% as compared to the same quarter of the biggest year.
02:16As we look ahead to visit Malaysia 2006, our goal is to boost domestic tourism,
02:22foster community pride and showcase Malaysia's vibrant diversity to the world,
02:28while laying the foundation of continual growth and lasting impact beyond 2016.

02:38after Pahang, the Klang Valley and Sarawak.
02:42Yeo said Penang, with its nasi kandar, street art and cultural charm, embodies Malaysia's diversity.
02:49SMG Group Chief Executive Officer Chan Seng Fat said the Carnival inspires Malaysians
02:55to rediscover the culture, food and hidden gems in their own backyard.
